Wow, I didn't even realize. I've really been using KU a lot for the last year. I had previously subscribed randomly for a month at a time, but during the pandemic, I've gotten so much use out of it that I've just left it on.
I want to share a small detail I learned this year. KU has some books that include the full audiobook as part of your KU subscription, but the search doesn't help you find it.
Click this link to a book that includes the narration. On the right, notice the Kindle Unlimited banner includes a headphones icon. The button also says "read and listen for free"

Bonus tip: if you have Amazon Echo devices and multiple people in your Prime household, each with their own Amazon library, ask Alexa to "switch to (name's) library" in order to play audiobooks from the (name's) non-default library. You'll need to each everyone that though so they know how to get back to their own library.

‘You can’t save someone from their own decisions.’
In the wake of a cold Victorian winter, Karl Scheffer and Esther Emerson discover an anonymous journal filled with strange passages and bizarre scribblings. The journal soon draws them into a covert and sinister conspiracy, a conspiracy centred around an otherworldly artefact with the power to change everything …
*
Karl and Esther have spent almost every day of their thirteen years in the quiet market town of Shraye. Stifled by their rural surroundings and frustrated by their unfulfilled ambitions, they find the allure of the journal’s mysterious pages impossible to ignore. The book seems to be beckoning them away from Shraye, away from their homes and towards the coast where an unsolved disappearance has set a dark chain of events in motion.
The voyage Karl and Esther soon find themselves undertaking is one of desperate importance and true peril. It will change the way they see the world, and each other, forever.

I wrote a suspense thriller titled 246: A Killer’s Promise if that may pique your interest at all!! 🥰 246
I'd really love your support in checking out this book. My wife started it in a creative writing class in college about 20 years ago, and she just finished it recently. I'll admit I don't read much, but I actually got sucked into this story! It is REALLY hard to put it down once you get going. If you read it and love it, please write a review on Amazon. Thanks so much!!!
The life of a lone dwarven prospector is one of shame, loneliness, and a constant battle for survival. Striking it rich is the only way for Naen to save himself from leaving his bones bleached in the sun without heritage or memory. When riches finally fall into his hands, he encounters a group of indentured servants fleeing from a vengeful master. Jade, a dwarf maid leading the refugees, has her own desires for her future, and they don’t include Naen. Jade and her dwarves steal his claim, but in the face of the brutal wilderness, they need help to survive, and the experienced Naen could give it. Drawn deeper into relationships with those he despises during the long mountain winter, Naen grapples with what kind of wealth he really seeks — or what kind of death. When spring comes, should he leave them to their fate and return to the wilds alone, or should he stay with these outlaw dwarves and face the coming onslaught?
Soon, he will be mocked as the King of the Cripples, and the mockery may just turn into his true heritage as the ragged refugees prepare their mine to withstand the vengeance of dwarven kings.

If you check either of them out, I'd love to hear what you think.
Exogeny is my first novella, influenced by the aesthetic of retro sci-fi films I grew up watching. There is a little undertone of horror thrown in, but nothing grotesque.
A quote from my wife that I considered putting on the cover, "This draft is a lot better than the last one I read." So, I've got that going for me.
Hi ImGigicat,
I have written a historical novel, and I am hoping that you will find my novel, The Lost Gospel of Peace, intriguing and engaging. The Lost Gospel of Peace reveals long held Biblical secrets that will put things into a totally new perspective. It is a unique use of fiction to unearth hidden truths. Comparable books and authors would be…
Dan Brown’s ‘The Da Vinci Code’
Paulo Coelho’s ‘The Alchemist’
Kahlil Gibran's ‘The Prophet’

What if you could guarantee life after death?
Denton Wade is dying.
And Cyberternal Industries has the answer. An answer he isn't willing to accept: life everlasting in a game world of fantasy, swords, and magic.
EndWorld Everlasting. A man-made afterlife. It goes against everything he's always believed in.
But there might still be hope. And hope is a very dangerous thing.
Far below their headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Cyberternal has been working on a secret medical program. A program made available to Denton though his personal, if not complicated, connection to an Assistant Vice President at the powerful company.
After agreeing to undergo the procedure, Denton finds himself awakening to a strange, new world. A world he never wanted.
Second Chance is the first book in the series: A Battle Mage Reborn, and is a GameLit Fantasy Adventure with soft LitRPG elements set in the digital world of EndWorld Everlasting.
Editorial Review: "I'm sure gamers and Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts will love this book. The high standard of writing continues throughout and the book is skillfully structured..." --Judge, 28th Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards
Hi!
Wannabe OELN (Original English Light Novel) writer here!
I finally completed my own novel and it's time to share it with the world!
At the moment it's only digital for 0,99$, but I think the physical will be up in a week!
I hope you'll enjoy the read!
From the moment I first stepped foot into Solset Magic Academy, I began to find countless things that I thought I’d lost forever. Friends I could trust, a comfortable academic experience, a peaceful life with my dear sister…
At least, that was what should have happened.
“Simon Anion, first-year of Water… You will be the next Earth representative!”
Following this unprecedented declaration by the Guardian Spirit, I began to draw hostility from the entire academy. In the end, the peaceful life that I had long sought was nothing but a forlorn dream.
But I could not give up. My stay at this academy was deliberate, and I would not let anyone or anything get in the way—
—of my one true purpose.

Right now, it's available only digital on Amazon, it will be on physical too in a week (hopefully!)

A pair of graduate students discover how to predict ~1.5 seconds into the future using peculiarities of quantum mechanics. They found a company to develop the technology but determine that due to limitations with their approach, they may have better luck developing the technology using astronomical data rather than on earth using their original table-top setup. As they further develop their ability to see into the future, they cross paths with a research group using AI to interpret astronomical measurements.
Naturally, the thought occurs to many, including the AI, to combine the AI with the future-predicting quantum mechanics instruments to help make sense of certain puzzling results from the future predicting experiments. Humans are rewarded with apocrypha, paradoxes, and nonsensical statements from the networks. However, particularly concerning are predictions of an "end of times" being near.

Here's the blurb:
>Buck Mattheson has been kidnapped and sold into slavery. Now this Santa Clara accountant will have to brave the elements, suffer cruel beatings at the hands of his new managers, and help the team get those expense reports to Dawson on time…or die. Can he overcome the frozen Northlands? Can he survive the Law of Club and Consequence? Can Buck remain human in a land with no Human Resources?
>
>Ethan Unklesbay read The Call of the Wild and mistook the dog Buck for a human being for an embarrassingly long time. This tale of human suffering, dignity, and self-discovery is the product of that mistake.
I wrote this one. After reading Jack London's The Call of the Wild, I wondered what it would be like for a person to feel that call. What primordial song would reach out to a modern salaryman and call for him to return to his roots?
It's supposed to be funny, in kind of a dark comedy way. As accountants and salesmen get hitched up to dog sleds you should laugh. As depression gets too hard for some of them, you should cry. As Buck finds love, you should find it too.

Welcome to Grexia!
A technologically primitive (and advanced) fantasy world home to many humans, and a mutant demi-human race with incredible quirks. The bashful half-goat Layka pursues her human love-interest with the secret help of her enthusiastic friend; incurring the wrath of her human-loathing brother. Meanwhile: politicians debate the ethical consequences of restricting access to their limited Myre Supply Chain in favor of serving the many, not the few. Will Grexians choose tradition, rather than skill? What is the Cosmic Tapestry of Astral Strings, and do other worlds inhabit it? Could immersive, life-like dreams be the key? Explore these quandaries and more, in Vol.1 - Part 1 of 5: Epiphany!

Hello. This may read like shameless self-promotion, but I did write a book anonymously and I believe it has the elements you mentioned. It is available through Kindle Unlimited. Hi all.
This is the direct continuation of my first book, Forest of Skills. The conflict up above is brewing, but it is a long term thing. Fortunately, there is plenty going on on the ground to keep the mc busy meanwhile.
Sorry that it took a while. The world has been a very distracting place for the past couple of months, to put it mildly. Honestly, with all the doom scrolling I’ve been doing, finishing this book is already a distant hazy memory.

Russ proved that he is worthy of living a new life in the world of skill. Now, it is time to carve out a piece of that world for himself and his new family. Somewhere to call home would do to start with, but it will not be a straightforward task. The gods cannot be denied, and they love to meddle. The gods' enemies, in turn, continue to hunt Russ relentlessly. To top it all off, a conflict of colossal proportions is happening right under everyone's noses. The world is a big and scary place, and without strong allies to depend on, Russ can hit the dead-end at any time. Will he be able to overcome the odds and conquer the forest of death? Probably not.
I just read this book on KU. It’s about two demigod friends that kick a lot of monster butt.

As far as audio goes, the answer is "yes, sort of". There are titles that include audio. but the Amazon Kindle search is not helpful for finding them. You literally have to look at each book's page and see if the "Listen and Read for Free" banner is there instead of "Read for Free" yellow button. There is also a distinctive Kindle Unlimited logo with headphones if you look closely. I like to recommend Rysa Walker's Timebound as an example of a book with audio in KU. You can click that and see what I'm talking about. I've listened to a few others, but it's a lot of work to find them.

There is a lot of self-published authors in KU, but there's also comics/graphic novels, magazines and other publishers' work available. You should start getting emails from Amazon about KU offerings once you've read a few things.
If you like dark fantasy with video game elements, the first two books of my series, A Battle Mage Reborn, are available in KU.
Here's the link in case you want to check them out.
This is a contemporary fiction short story about a southern girl from an affluent family who opens an escape room but is at adds with one of the main influencers in the city. Just Released Today. I would love to get some reviews and opinions on the story.
I enjoyed Daryl Banner's "Bromosexual" which was billed as an enemies to lovers tale. I'm kind of fussy about M/M romances and didn't like some others by this author.

Hi all.
This is my first work and I hope that it is, above all else, a fun read.
This is a litrpg story so there are stats, skills and other game like elements. It does not take place in a game but in another world that the mc is reborn in.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JPY87J4
Skills are everything. When he accepted the hit, Russ would not have believed whose interests he was actually serving. Now, with the job done, an otherworldly being is giving him with one hand what was just taken from him with the other. His life. Skills are everything and what doesn't kill you makes your skills stronger. Placed into the world of skills, Russ found himself faced with a new life governed by a system he did not completely understand. It is, however, a completely new start. Will Russ continue doing what he does best? Or will he be able to achieve the things that he had always wanted but considered to be a lost cause in his old life? Why not some of both? This is a litrpg story where the main character acquires skills and levels them up by using them. He gets ability choices as he levels up and as a reader you will be going through the choices with him, in most cases.

An Old Man's Journey is now available on Amazon Kindle Unlimited!!!
At the end of his life, Charles was left with one question: What was it all for?
After his tour of duty and an unremarkable post-Army business career, Charles spent his twilight years watching old movies and waiting for his grandkids to call. He'd lived a good life, been a decent man, but now that his wife was gone he was... Lonely.
Until his old friend Bert introduced him to Crossroads, the new VR sensation. In this virtual world he can move without pain, explore new lands, and most importantly - see his family again. For as long as he can hold their interest, in this fast-paced modern world of instant gratification and VR thrills.
The solution: Build a place his family wants to visit. Armed only with a magic stick with game-breaking powers that should be nerfed, Charles sets out on a journey to find a place to call his own. Along the way, he will be mistaken for an NPC quest giver, become the antagonist in epic questlines, and attempt to teach the next generation proper behavior - even if he has to beat it into them.
This is the story of one man's search for belonging in his second virtual life. A search for a place to belong, and what it takes to get there. It's also a hilarious romp through online fantasy cliches that will appeal to fans of Ready Player One, The Wandering Inn, and slice-of-life comedies.
Because at the end of a man's life: What's more important than family?
"Hilarious!" "Amazing!" "Few things better!" - Royal Road readers.
Howard Marsh is a lot of things: a liar, a thief, a poor man’s wizard. He’s the product of a miserable county with more dirt roads than paved; where poverty and loss is the order of the day. He’s a man haunted by his past, and has yet to find any reason to try and piece himself back together.
Where we find him is at the bottom, eking out a living as a water witch, a copper thief, a finder of lost things. Living in a storage shed and trying to maintain what's left of the frayed relationships of the few family members who will still talk to him. Untrained, he uses the drugs that ravage his body to fuel his magic.
Within these pages Marsh will work to unravel two supernatural mysteries as only a redneck wizard can: poorly, and with much cursing. In Bringing Home the Rain he has to piece together just why it hasn’t rained in months within the bounds of a perfect circle just south of town. And in Dancing With Your Demons he’s on the trail of a missing woman whose now infamous son once burned down a church.
He is Howard Marsh, the Methgician.
He’s a travesty...but he’s the best hope Jubal County has.
(Warning: This book contains much cursing and foul language, as befits a tale told by a drug addled white trash wizard.)

Full description: Burning for the Beast — a steamy paranormal romance set in the Highlands of Scotland, based on Norse myth
The realms of immortals are on the brink of collapse, and the human woman who is the key to their survival finds herself at the mercy of the king of the Fenrir, a dangerous and powerful man who seeks to use her for himself… and ignites a burning passion within her.
Ulric McCallen will stop at nothing to undo the decades-long curse that threatens the very existence of his clan. He finds the solution in a very unlikely source — a wee little human of ethereal beauty and fiery spirit. The same curse that binds his world has marked her for death, and the king of beasts must somehow protect the woman he hungers to possess from the dark forces that hunt her, and save the world itself from certain destruction.
Evaline Headen is making a last ditch effort to save herself from a mysterious illness, which has baffled every doctor and specialist she’s seen. She’s in Scotland, trying to find a witch. But instead of a cure, she finds herself falling straight into danger, and into the arms of a tall, handsome stranger… with big teeth, and deadly claws. She has no choice but to seek refuge with Ulric as she tries to unravel the secrets of her condition and her past. But the truth can bring their hearts together, or be the undoing of them both.

Ariana Heppelwhite was a promising Gender Studies grad student at Lacy Swanson College for Women in Bayport, Massachusetts. She had actually written a paper describing three hitherto unknown forms of nanoaggression! She was on track for getting a professorship and a actual job with a real salary and all the perks, maybe even tenure eventually.
Ariana had even met an unexpectedly charming incel (a phrase she had never expected to think, much less say) while doing research on incels for a grant she had. Sure, she'd done some nasty academic infighting that had an athletic department coach looking for her scalp over a transmale gaze incident, but overall, things were coming up roses for Ariana.
Then it happened. Ariana got caught in a freak physics accident while running from the gym coach, and was transported to an alternate world. And it was the exact WRONG world for a Gender Studies feminist to be transported to. It was full of women who walked around naked in public and wore collars engraved with “Property of (their significant other)” and who LOVED their collars -- and who seemed to think Ariana was a barbarian from a violent place.
And the thing was, they were all nice people, and calm people, and they just might be right about Ariana. Even more of a thing was that some not-so-nice Collar Land people thought Ariana's world represented such a threat that they should kill her for security reasons!
Will Ariana ever make it back to good old Earth from Collar Land? Will she learn to adjust to these very strange people or will she subvert their entire society? Will the not-nice people kill her? And what about that unexpectedly charming incel?
All these questions and more will be answered -- all you have to do is read this topnotch science fiction comedy!
