Thx for that statement
One of those is Roikon 85mm And others are 7artisans 35mm and 50mm meike
I guess what you mention is the manual focus, so is this the only manual setting to change? Could it harm the lens if I don't?
You want to get a lens with a higher aperture, i got a 25mm f1.7 lens for my G85 and love it!
Its this one: https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Aperture-Compatible-Panasonic-Mirrorless/dp/B07ZCNH68D?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace

As others in the thread have said, since you're shooting at night, a fast prime is probably your best bet. Something like this ought to do it. There's also better ones out there, that are weathersealed and have O.I.S., but they'll obviously be more expensive. I have this lens myself, and it's pretty good for what you pay.
Since it's a prime, you'll have to zoom with your feet, but that's a good thing, because it will force you to think about your composition.
Hi Yorky, please edit the link to something without all the unnecessary bloat, e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Understanding-Exposure-Fourth-Photographs-Camera/dp/1607748509/
See here if you're interested in details.
Lots of good advice here, but if you’re new to photography then buy this book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Understanding-Exposure-Fourth-Photographs-Camera/dp/1607748509/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?crid=1BRDWY3K5MOS4&keywords=exposure+book&qid=1670921882&sprefix=exposure+book%2Caps%2C78&sr=8-13
It will help you massively.
Hi. The reason why the rules explicitly advise against using URL shorteners is twofold - people can hide of affiliate links behind shortener URLs and the fact that those comments tend to get automatically removed as spam, which is the case of your comment. Please use links in their basic form, i.e. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FQP6J7P/ in this case.
Yep, for $1800 that's really quite cheap. Unfortunately Amazon (at the moment of posting this) says the listing is unavailable.
Oh and please remove the unnecessary bloat from the link in your comment so that it looks like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Mirrorless-Full-Frame-L-Mount-DMW-BLK22/dp/B09SGCY8VM/
How about the 20-60mm + 85mm f/1.8 + battery bundle? It seems like a steal to me? Only $1799. Link
or i would get this instead, the gx9 with 12-60mm. I would probably sell the lens later and get one of my mentiones primes
There's this GX85 kit shipped and sold by Amazon that's bundled with the 12-32mm and 45-150mm kit lenses for around $850 CAD (after taxes it's around $960) if that's a good price. I've been waiting to see if the price will go down any further for Black Friday and Cyber Monday which it never did but I've been thinking of just going ahead and buying it new since it's almost impossible to find a used one.
What do you think of this GX85 kit sold and shipped by Amazon? It's above my budget and after taxes it won't be far from $1000 CAD but it's new and includes both the 12-32mm and 45-150mm kit lenses.
Finding a used one has been proving difficult.
See, this is exactly why the rules specifically ask to avoid using URL shorteners. Both your comments were automatically marked as spam.
What the Amazon link should have looked like: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B079VDF7ZG
Turns out first party URL shortening is problematic as well. Can't believe I didn't see this earlier. We both learned something!
Sorry, can't help you with that - never needed one for myself. But assuming GX880 has the same battery as the GX850, if I ever needed one, I would get something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073XZ7F32 so that I have more options with the charging block since it's USB (adapter, portable USB battery, etc)
Too bad the camera doesn't let you charge and operate it at the same time - then you'd just have to plug in a power to the micro-USB port on the camera and call it good.
I fixed my camera! It was so easy. As a last ditch effort, I decided to order BW-100 spray bottles and carefully spray the buttons and jog dial. It fixed it immediately. The whole process took about 15 seconds...I'm still shocked and amazed. I ordered the smaller 3 pack on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08T614Y1J
I read on the Ricoh camera forum that users have had problems with their jog dials and few people suggested using a electronic contact cleaner to fix it. Did some more research and it seems like among the various electronic contact cleaners, people really like BW-100 - gamers use it to fix their Nintendo Switch controller drifting and such and I guess it's been used on all kinds of sensitive electronics. So I said what the heck...I'll try it....and it was an instant fix. My GX850 jog dials response accurately, the buttons around it work etc. I was reluctantly looking into Canon M200 or Sony A5100 but nope - GX850 is 100% again! Just adding it in here in case anybody ever has the same problem.
Oh nice. Weird for the price to go up and down like that, haha.
Oh, please change the link to https://www.amazon.de/Panasonic-DC-S5AMKB-Vollformatkamera-spritzwassergesch%C3%BCtzt-Zusatzakku/dp/B08H5BTD67/ . It's the same link, but without that tracking clutter.
Still online for that price on the german website. LINK
Yes, I just won't have access to the speaker, and am recording from a distance. So I can't put a mic on them.
I will also try the low cut filter on the H2N.
Is this good?

Good suggestions, thanks. I picked up this field mixer by Azden second hand, but it’s too big and heavy to be portable.
Azden superceded that unit with alternately a much more portable version and a better-specified version for professional engineers, but it wasn’t really the way I wanted to go.
Can you explain what the Sennheiser is doing internally to manage with either its 1.5v AA battery or its 48v? If it’s managing the different amounts of power, maybe it’ll be happy with any charge, and perhaps the G9 could work.
I use pouches similar to these: https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Camera-Drawstring-Olympus-Panasonic/dp/B00KWRBICU/ to store the lenses. Then I can use any old backpack. I'm not as fast when changing lenses as with a dedicated camera backpack, but then again, I don't need to. YMMV.
This seems like a very iffy proposition given that LiIon batteries don't respond well to short circuiting or other mistreatments. Bursting into flame might be an issue...
Consider buying spare batteries from Amazon which additionally come with a compatible double charger like this; https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07B9WQ23C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The above were for my G9 and work very well, and I can carry a double battery charger (handily, and more conveniently, usb instead of mains powered) instead of the same sized single model. Now this may not be the battery model you use, but something like it might be a safer bet.
Hi Sean. Do you know if a powered USB hub (e.g., this one from Anker) could power the G9 (or any other Lumix with webcam capabilities) while being used with Lumix Tether?
One piece of advice, the faster you can get to functions on the camera, the more you may be able to capture.
David Thorpe (RIP) was an amazing photojournalist and M43 contributor. His YouTube channel and Lumix guidebooks are some of the best. Try this one...
I’d say it’s a difference of portability and maneuverability.
If I’m taking my camera out walking around, a small battery is lighter and smaller, so too will my camera be, when it’s slung around my neck and I’m constantly grabbing it to snap a pic.
However, if I’m shooting real estate, it’s mostly on a tripod, rigged to hold some extra gear, part of which is a very small external battery.
Then, if shooting video, it’s typically on a tripod with a full rig, including a big external battery. Reason being the type of video I was shooting - in a studio, filming a stationary subject, lots of takes, much more time with camera just sitting there. If I’m using a gimbal, probably just internal batteries.
In the end, do what makes sense and works for you. I usually bring an external usb-c power delivery battery bank with me when traveling because I can charge pretty much all of my electronics in between things, my S5 included. I’m a big fan of the stuff Anker makes. These are the ones I own:
Anker PowerCore Slim 10000 PD,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082WD5TY8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071WNWRNC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The small one I referenced earlier is from a brand that got banned from Amazon for review manipulation lol. Then, I also have a bunch of backup internal batteries.
Good luck!
This is sick! Just had a few questions I hope you could answer.
I've read somewhere that there's a baked-in noise suppression from the internal mic line to compensate for IBIS noise. Have you noticed any detraction from audio quality in regards to this?
Also, is this a powered line? I saw in the webboggles article that he was using it with a powered wireless mic, but would something like this work as well?
I'd purchased this one and have used it for several trips (including air travel) and it's held up very well. Even gives me room for a change of clothing or two as well as snacks.
Tarion Pro Camera Backpack (I went with the smaller PB-L).
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CZGRRKY/
$99 USD well spent in my opinion.
The PB-L is just small enough to fit under many airlines seats so that you don't have it in the overhead bin or checked (both of which tend to damage cameras and their optics).
I use this one. Power Adapter Dummy Battery
Thanks alot for your reply I end up finding a V-mount battery plate that supported usb type c PD charging
KOERTACOO V-Mount Lock Battery: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KHG4K51?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
i wish it had multiple ports but the one will have to do until other manufacturers catch on. Seems like type C will be the standard soon
Finally got a chance to do this mod to one of my favorite cameras.
I can now plug in a Rode Wireless Go II and the flash is still functional (putting it back is a bit difficult). Used a cheap headphone repair cable and some super glue to stick it to the camera.
Soldering's a bit finicky but totally doable.

This for instance, with USB power. It also exists with AC power.
Ok, gotcha. Last question, do you think this power supply paired up with the coupler you sent me would work? https://www.amazon.com/Gonine-DMW-DCC12-Compatible-PANASONIC-DMC-GH3K/dp/B01EI2S6OC/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2UC3IGF5AJLS&keywords=Panasonic+DMW-AC10+AC+Adapter&qid=1647015220&sprefix=panasonic+dmw-ac10+ac+adapte%2Caps%2C92&sr=8-5
No, and be careful, this one advertises that it'll also work on G9. But looking at the reviews for this cage I see " Not a great fit on a Panasonic G9."
https://www.amazon.com/NICEYRIG-Panasonic-Mirrorless-Camera-Threaded/dp/B087JTJCQ9
For best fit, good to get a cage specific to that model of camera.
A universal L bracket should get you started. You can build out from there by adding cheese plates and bars, etc.
This is what i got. It's a battery bank and It powers the camera and charges it when its off. I have a NINJA V+ and also wanted to charge it off the battery (still waiting for my 9V usb-c to DC cable), but the 20,000 Mah is thinner and cheaper. I plan to design and 3D print a mount so I can mount it to the arca swiss plate built into the bottom of the S5 cage.
Nope, I tried this when I got mine. I built a cinema rig and choose this battery https://www.amazon.com/SONGING-Battery-Camcorders-Monitors-Smartphone/dp/B08LL9XRJJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=1RLDG78CSOB6G&keywords=fx+lion+v+mount&qid=1644558924&sprefix=fx+lion%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-5
Personally what I use on my PC is a capture card and plug it into my system via HDMI
I used a USB one for awhile until I lost it and then went to a PCIE one
I'm not on a Mac but I didn't learn about the Lumix Tether program before I tried the capture card
Word of advise though, if you're using your camera simply as a webcam you just need one that can do 1080p. No reason to go with 4k as no one is going to be able to tell anyways.
This is the one I used before I lost it
This is the one I currently use, but I paid about half of what they're asking for now
You can try using a more powerful desiccant like silica gel packets
I have shot with the 12-35 (here it is on my GH3), and it is a great lens for indoors and moderate to low light situations, but I found it's 3x zoom to be too limiting. The 14-140's 10x zoom range would provide you with a lot more flexibility for travel, especially outdoors.
I use the 3 Legged Thing QR11 Universal Camera L-Bracket, It is a fairly good and generic L bracket, the only thing that is quite expensive and covers the lower accesses of the camera
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07336HHRS/
This is the one I've used on my GX85, the dummy battery itself looks the same as above. I got this one for the USB end, so I could plug into USB power packs too.
Which lenses do you use for the s5? Do you think those two lenses are a good decision?
There are two types of filter attachments I know of that can give you access to macro magnifying filters, both involve an adhesive ring you leave on the camera:
https://lensmateonline.com/collections/panasonic-dmc-lx10-lx15-accessories
This one uses a bayonet between the leave-on ring and the threaded ring.
https://www.amazon.com/MagFilter-Threaded-Adapter-Carrier-Panasonic/dp/B06Y41X8YB
This is magnetic, so the leave-on ring is lower profile, with the magnets in the threaded ring, which is larger.
I haven't used any of these personally.
This camera already focuses pretty close in wide angle, but a macro filter could bring the minimum focus closer in tele which isn't a bad thing.
Extra light is also pretty helpful for close-up, and there's no direct attachment for that either, but off-camera constant light or an optical-trigger flash might be appreciated, if you're looking for ideas.
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-32mm/F3.5-5.6
In Japan the model number should be: H-FS12032
Here it is on Amazon in Japan so you can have all the details
You don't need a ring light specifically. Any decent light should work.
For what it's worth, if you're streaming your drawing, there are purpose built document cameras that are much simpler (and take up less room) than what you have there. They work as webcams, and the have lights around the lens. The resolution/image quality is also pretty good. They sell for around $100 USD (probably less).
Example: https://www.amazon.com/INSWAN-Document-Camera-Auto-Focus-Supplemental/dp/B07PQJZK66
Yeah that will work, but the margin of error is going to be reasonable so I'd take any result +/-10% as basically the same.
Once the batteries are drained if you've got a way of measuring the amount of mAh you need to put back in to charge it then you can figure out their individual capacities quite accurately. I do this periodically with my lipo drone batteries via their charger, but I've also done it with some AA batteries by charging them through a plug meter like this:
Power Meter Plug Energy Monitor with Backlight LCD https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B085S7Q1T4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_dl_92H00HN181FCGBMXQFG7
If you’re feeling extra generous i suggest you get a set of extension tubes. They’re cheap and can be used in conjunction with the kit lens to take macro photography. Quite fun!
Another question...you recommend the Lumix 12-35mm F/2.8 II. What's the difference between that and the Lumix 12-60mm F2.8-4.0 for around the same price? I mean, I get that there's a little more zoom, but what makes the 12-35 better than this one?
So I did some searching based on your comment...her birthday isn't for another month and a half (I'm planning and budgeting). However, I'm thinking of picking up that 25mm f1.7 for $150 just for her to play with until then. I think she may really have fun learning with that one. No zoom or image stabilization, but I think it could help her practice and learn a bit...then the big gift will be the 35-100mm f2.8.
This is the one I'm looking at for those interested: https://www.amazon.com/PANASONIC-LUMIX-MIRRORLESS-THIRDS-H-H025K/dp/B014RD6RC0/
Yep, once you get into shooting something where focus is critical, you will have to start pulling focus manually. This is what the pros do and for a very good reason. Get yourself a cheap follow-focus rig (like this one) and start to learn the process.
I use a generic 15,000mA power bank, and it powers the camera just fine (with the Panasonic-branded battery in the camera - haven't tried this with a generic in-camera battery yet).
My only guess would be to somehow get something that acts as a heatsink/disperser on them. Maybe having the battery flap open if possible during shooting to allow some airflow?
They sell heat sinks for water cooling your graphics card that are just small radiator type metal blocks on amazon, etc. There is also thermal pad material that could be affixed to any metal parts on the camera which may help, even if it is a tiny amount. This would be attached to any part that physically feels warm.
this is the type of thing you would use to affix THESE
You would want to look for non copper most likely since they would be exposed to the outside so maybe look for aluminum?
This is all just hypothesizing from my experience with PC building so if you decide to try any of this it is at your own discretion. I feel as if this is something that possibly could be applied to the cameras as they are generating excess heat.
I know this is a different solution but have you thought about buying a remote. This one works for me https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JGI8D0G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_TJWC1A53XRZG0RPAEXXT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Or you can try the Pansonic Lumix Sync app.
Thanks, but that example has a smooth-profile case on the plug end. I can see that it won't fit into the camera, which has a large dimple midway in the profile.
That link is for a MINI HDMI cable not MICRO HDMI cable there is a difference.
also how about this one?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Flexible-Micro-HDMI-Cable/dp/B07KSDB25X/
' Flexible Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable,'
(if im shopping with amazon, I try to avoid marketplace stuff)
I'm not sure if any brand ever made a cage specifically for the G2 tbh. I'd rather look around for a universal camera cage. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/CAMVATE-Universal-Adjustable-Camera-Handle/dp/B076P89BQ7?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace
Thanks so much! I think that's the lens that's included with the camera on amazon!
I'll add some on to the other comments here:
The GX85 is a nice option if you don't need the mic jack - it's relatively small which can be less intrusive if you're placing the camera close to your workspace, but also the display does not flip all the way to selfie position. If you're working alone you'll want to see yourself and the GX85 is really only viewable from the back or directly in front when using a mirror.
Also if you're doing a top-down cooking show and have good lighting, you may not need to immediately replace the kit lens with a wide prime - there is no background to blur, you're not scavenging for light, and sharpness will be adequate.
The other thing I wanted to add is that if you plan to record 4k, then you'll want to be aware of the crop. In 4k, The G85 and GX85 have a 1.1x crop on their 16MP sensors. The G95 stepped up to 20MP but didn't resolve the crop, so its crop is 1.25x - with all of them it's reading the 4k-sized area of pixels in the center of the sensor, but by increasing the pixel density that 4k-sized area also gets smaller. The G9, on the other hand, has 20MP and no crop. The big crop on the G95 kept me from ever considering it, since it's not just a pain for 4k video, but also for features based on 4k like 4k photo and focus stacking. You lose a bit of your wide angles and have to pull cameras back to recover it, if you even have the option.
I have a G85 and have used a ac powered battery connector for continuous power to the camera. Very useful for time lapse shots. Amazon link
Atmos Ninja or Small HD is what we use. You could find one of those cheap HDMI monitors and rig it for battery power for cheap but it depends on how crafty you are feeling! https://www.amazon.com/Loncevon-Portable-Computer-Raspberry-Headphone/dp/B06XQJVXHL
+ Micro HDMI to Standard HDMI cable
Multiple questions here.
Filming videos - yes, you do video on the camera and audio recorded on your phone. Use the old Hollywood sync trick by having the on-camera talent clap once the sound and camera are running, and then you can use that moment in post-production to sync the audio and video tracks together. Also, they make pocket audio recorders specifically for this purpose, so that may be something to look at in the future.
Streaming - this is more technically complicated. First, can the camera output a "clean" video feed? By that I mean, just the off-the-sensor video without showing you the time and shutter speed and f stop? One way to test is to use the mini-HDMI output on the camera and find a cable that will plug in to the regular HDMI port on the back of a TV. Turn on the camera and see what you get live on the TV.
If it passes that test, then you will need a video capture device like a MiraBox Capture Card or Elgato Game Capture HD60 S to do the live rendering of the video to send it out on the internet. Rather than do the audio through the phone, you will connect the audio to the computer's mic input.
Check out the Elgato Cam Link. It’s a USB dongle that accepts HDMI input and shows up as a webcam on the computer. It can be used in any app that supports a webcam. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K3FN5MR/
I had the exact same problem as you. Got a spec of dirt on the sensor of my GX85, about the same size as yours. Self-cleaning and compressed air didn't do the trick. I found a old post here that recommended a cleaning kit like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K8MTPEW/
I tried it and it worked perfectly. The width of these swabs is equal to the length of the M43 sensor, so you don't need to hunt down ones made specifically for M43. The IBIS just means you have to brush slowly and only apply minimal pressure, but that's a given since you're working on the most sensitive part of an expensive camera. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully and you should be fine.
You've probably already picked some up, but I've used these with no issues.
I have this and it works wonderfully.
Here is a shot with it.
I ended up going with the amazon basics large case, which has enough room for the camera and a small pouch to store the shoulder strap and extra battery when not in use. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Large-Point-Shoot-Camera/dp/B00DUGZEWK/ref=sr_1_5?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1486316917&sr=1-5&keywords=camera+case
Between your 20mm and the 42.5mm, the $199 Sigma 30mm f2.8 is a great lens.
Here's the image quality this lens can produce at 1080p (shot with the GH4):
At $200, all three of the Sigma MFT lenses are a very good value for the money.
Hope this is helpful and best of the holidays!
