Actually according to an interview with Magikarp Jump's developers, they almost chose Metapod. And yeah they even joke it might have become Metapod Harden.
Then the developers found a popular mobile game in Japan called Survive! Mola mola!.
>――それはそれで気になりますね~(笑)。 SELECT BUTTONさんがコイキングのアプリを作るということを聞いた時、私も『生きろ!マンボウ!』を遊んでいたので、このアプリを作った方がコイキングのゲームを作ったら絶対に面白いものになるだろうなというイメージがあったので、とても楽しみでした。
Summary on Google Play:
>The "closest animal to heaven" has arrived!! Take care of your mola! Brand-new nurturing game where "death=pleasure"
>Molas are pretty distinct with a large and oddly-shaped body. However, they are actually very delicate. The smallest thing can make them die (´・ω・`)
>【Cause of death】
>Dive into the deep-end too quickly
>→Wow, the water is so cold!
>→Death
>Sun bathing
>→When I woke up, I was on land
>→Death
>Jump to kill a parasites riding on the body
>→Fell and struck the water!
>→Death
>Don't let your mola die. Grow your mola to the world's biggest 2.5t class!
Sounds familiar? That's what inspired them to make Magikarp Jump instead of Metapod Harden.
~~Wait... Why not Alomomola instead?~~
Edit: Actually the developers of Magikarp Jump are from the same company (SELECT BUTTON) that made Survive! Mola Mola. ~~That doesn't count as a ripoff then.~~

Hi folks, since lots of people been asking how they can do it too, here's some pointers.
First thing I want to say is, you don't actually need to write code or script to achieve this. There are apps out there that lets you record your actions and play them back. (Here's one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prohiro.macro) However, the biggest problem for them is that they almost always require root access, which I don't have and wasn't willing to do at the moment.
There's another way to use TeamViewer or Vysor to mirror your Android onto your desktop computer and use some auto-clicker to automate the clicks.
The alternative I figured out was to use ADB to issue input commands to the phone. I'm doing this a very simple way. I use the built-in Developer Settings on Android to read pixel positions of where my clicks should be in the game, and then I simply hardcode the sequence of clicks and their timings that into my script.

Tip: Make sure you put your phone in Airplane Mode so no notifications show up.
Are you using a PC? If that's the case you can find the apps in your music folder. There you have an iTunes folder. In it there should be a Mobile Application folder. My system's language is German and the folder names are still in English so this should be the same case with Spanish systems. You can just check it out without starting anything. That seems to be the hardest part for you because it's not in in the guide. However it seems that iTunes 12.4.3 is only available for a 64 Bit system at least the version you find directly on apple.com. However you can get this version from Apple which is even older and should work. You can find the old version from Charles here. If you have both tools you should watch the entire video carefully. If you do all the things step for step you can't really mess up anything. The worst that could happen is that it does not work and you wasted a few minutes. If you take this "risk" you should definitely try it.
For anybody wondering, I compiled all of the numbers from this thread and found that the differences in proportions was statistically significant. More info here: https://www.minds.com/blog/view/724452001340989459
