Well ridden and people with snowshoes and cross country skis.
I'm definitely doing this early spring... already looking when to take time off. I just signed up for a free account from Ride with GPS and found this round trip route of the same ride. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38430738 I figure 50 miles a day will be pretty easy even with gear. Gonna be fun!
Did you use a GPS unit while riding? It's something I've debated forever and should probably just buy one. I think it would make the road sections easier. Last summer I had to bike from DH Day Campground to downtown Traverse City and I was holding my phone in my hand struggling to see the screen in the sun and dealing with touch screen/sweat issues the whole way.
Oh man. I ride with the Detroit Randonneurs, and we have an annual ride that does Port Huron, over to Frankenmuth, then up the coast, along the shore, and back down to Port Huron. It's one of our 400k rides.
Here was the version we used this year (slight detour)

But searching on ride with GPS might find you some other good rides in the area.
You should be able to get from Midland and pick this route up. It's a pretty good ride - the section on 25 goes FOREVER.
We normally ride this all at once - continuous - but I think it would also make a really nice tour, with several options for camping along the way.
Need to get some route info is there a good gravel route around the lake? I rode up that way last year but didn't make it around the lake but would like to next time.
Awesome! Shaping up to be a supreme weekend. Hopefully plenty of people will chime in with some of their favorite spots in this neck of the woods, but when you said between Manistee and TC, I automatically think of the Arcadia G&G course - dirt roads with some great singletrack mixed in there. Have fun!
I grew up in HL and head there quite a few weekends every summer. ORV trails I have seen are very sandy, I mean deep sand. I have see some signage specifically prohibiting anything but ORVs. I mistakenly ended up on a snowmobile trail and had to course correct as it was going to be shoes full of sand for unknown miles.
I picked up a Warbird last spring and did some exploring last summer. I use gravelmap.com to find potential sections.
I did this route a couple of times and it is pretty fun. Takes you by a logging site and some hidden lakes. Saw a couple of Herons.

Next is the route where I made a wrong turn onto the sand trail. Lots of cool woods and you connect to this small subdivision, very short paved but then cross a tiny bridge back onto the gravel, had a great time!

Both rides are fun and scenic. Pro tip: Wear and bring some serious bug spray. Mosquitos are what they are, but the flies are ferocious depending on a fresh hatch. Stopping can be a problem if they are out.
If you are interested in someone to ride with, hit me up! Always down to gravel gamble!
Took the advice to heart and solid light it is -- just put in an order and these are on their way (actually quite a bit cheaper than the light bars with strobe patterns):

Guessing that 3600 lumens of solid red light should be enough to ensure that I'm visible.
