Use your BC caps, cut a hole in them for the little arm, and then done.
This is what I use to hold my phone steady to my NODs. It allows me to adjust the diopter and focus lens to my phone camera rather than my eyes.
This is what I use to hold my phone steady to the NVG. It allows me to adjust the diopter and focus lens to my phone camera rather than my eyes.
We've tested a bunch of phone/camera adapters for NVGs and this is the cheapest but best option we've found thus far:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01788LT3S?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
We have a PVS-14 unit that's pretty much dedicated to film and photos now and we just keep this adapter on there.
As u/ApolloGearCo stated, with modern cameras/phones with multiple lenses it can be tricky to get everything working properly.
With iPhones you have to make sure the lens that's currently being used is what's actually in front of the NVG optic. This will change depending zoom level and if you're doing video or photo. So don't be surprised if after changing a setting everything's blacked out, just means you have to readjust the position of the NVG in relation to the phone.
Don’t know why the digital is a bad thing: kid will be able to record, share to YouTube and socials, etc. that’s fun for kids. SiOnyx Aurora is right at the top end of your budget, but it’s flexible and fun, and frankly really crisp in conjunction with a cheap IR torch.
Looks like standard 3M Peltor mount and Combat Gear Arc Rail adapters.
If you can’t find that one at Walmart, then some targets have the Dart Zone Max Stryker, basically same thing but with color and cosmetic differences.
If you can’t find that one, then the company that designed them, Dart Zone, sells a more powerful, short dart only version on its Amazon, albeit for twice the price.
Last couple years dart zone has really hit it out of the park with their blasters. Inversely, Hasbro’s Nerf has largely ignored consumer feedback, making the weird Hyper line with proprietary ammo to cater to older customers meanwhile cheapening and making their main line harder to modify, all the while charging the same premium price.
This is going to be my first winter running a full helmet setup, and I just started looking for a solution to this issue. I got many of the same recommendations you have in this thread.
I tested 2 different cheap solutions that I have had great luck with. I bought this and this, and both are working well. The knit cap needs to have the plastic logo tag removed, but after that is an excellent fit under the helmet. My Ops Core AMPs don't seal quite as tight against my head when wearing it, but it should still provide decent hearing protection. The thin fleece beanie and facemask works great as well, and provides a better seal for my headset.
This plus 550 cord or shock cord ^
3M(TM) Peltor(TM) ARC, Left &... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00745WSZE?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Bout these. Not designed for Howard’s but there’s a YouTube video showing how to use these mounts. It works
I highly recommend this setup, if you pick up a 37mm camera lenses cap you now have added pro
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01788LT3S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I’ve used this and it works rather well. Takes a little bit to get it dialed in just right, but once you have it set up it’s good to go
Make your own with these ^ + bungee/550
These^ with some shock cord/ 550+ split ring are so much cheaper & you have 19 spare ones for other stuff
Iv been using a lancer tactical helmet i got off amazon. Works fine as is for a single tube. I got a second tube and when bridged the included padding was not enough and pressure points started to get sore. Bought some more padding and all is good. Got a second one so two people can run a single each. No complaints. Payed $70 amazon
Oh dang I was looking at the IRW! Yeah completely different lol, my bad. Would be interested for sure if my current setup wasn't goodenough™ (its probably not).
I've bumped into one of these exactly once and the illuminator on it is easily DBAL level imo.
For the money its hard to beat a lancer tactical helmet off amazon. First one was great so i bought a second in fde. If you run dual pvs14's with a counter weight the provided padding is not enough. At least for me. You can always upgrade in the future but this will get you out in the night
Not really a fan of bungies on a pvs14.
There are some good cheap lanyards out there: https://www.amazon.com/Boomerang-Hunt-Gear-Tether-Carabiner/dp/B00BF6QRM8/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=2VKYH6GE9VIY2&keywords=boomerang+tool+company&qid=1657223519&sprefix=boomerang+tool+%2Caps%2C104&sr=8-5
Just got a response from AB:
I checked with Adam Barker, the owner of our company, about the rechargeable batteries. He said that if they are no more than 3.3 volt, that would be just fine to use. And then he also emailed me a link to some with a charger on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MZCGPH1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which are Surefire brand, just like you mentioned, so he must like those!
buy this one lancer tactical Iv bought two of them and they are stable and rigid. I bought an fma one i thought was cool and payed like 50 bucks more for it. Its garbage and its flimsy as hell.

I actually have the perfect thing for this!
This is a fiber optic ethernet cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T57991K/
If you shine an 850nm IR LED into the cable (possibly just using an MMF PHY, like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BP55663/), the entire cable will glow under night vision.
You can try something like this to "hide" in the painting https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WRNPI50/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
For the most part anything that is going to be very IR reflective will be visible under the naked eye as well. That said, a lot also depends on his night vision tube color - white or green - so you can also play with contrasts. A darker/navy blue looks almost bright grey under WP tubes for instance, can do an "inverted" style painting...I could also be talking out my ass I can barely water color with my kids

NVD is the Nerf Modulus Day/Night Zoom Scope, which you can find on Amazon for $25. For what it is, its not half bad. Of course there's a huge amount of latency and you can't see more than five feet in front of your face, but its still fun to mess around with. I'm thinking of buying a second one for a dual tube setup.
Oh I sure did! Until I realized you're suppose to trim the Mk2 wire to fine tune height which Unity happened to omit from their instructions...here's a thread I made about it. The height is perfect now.

If you're seeing a ring of red LEDs in between the trees, he's likely using some kind of shitty digital "night vision" device like so (these are about on par with gen 0 NVGs like PNV-57As, but with far worse image quality and a borderline unusable image delay, how he's been able to evade you with such shitty equipment is the really terrifying question you should be asking), so even a shitty PNV-57E (average price: about $500-$600 USD on eBay) would outmatch him, so if you're really tired of playing cat and mouse, getting your own NODs, even shitty gen 1 NVGs, would do the trick.
Your link wasn't working for me, so here's the fix for anybody else that has the same problem:

Still haven’t found a battery anywhere, would something like this work? Obviously I’d have to add a plastic connector, but this would definitely fit in the box. Well firstly, you don’t have to worry about it because it’s already sold.
The new owner has nothing to worry about either. Government housings are so common that they can be purchased on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Monocular-Battery-Assembly-A3256341-Mil-Spec/dp/B0718XC7TK
I just pulled this thread up looking for a simple night vision monocular. I provide shelter, food, protection for wild rabbits. I only need to see about 40 yards into the dark. My wife assists me in the endeavor. She bought a pair of binoculars that work well for our purpose. I don’t want to keep taking them from her so thought about my own, then thought a monocular might be better. My search did not reveal a clear option so I thought Reddit might shed more light. Indo not want to spend $1,500. Her binoculars only cost $250.
While it can’t be mounted on my AR and isn’t the best around, it works well. It has an LCD screen which could give you away in a tactical or hunting condition, it hasn’t scared the rabbits or the predators I’ve monitored. I have no doubt the crowd here are recommending high quality, but to be so snooty that $1,500 is a minimum, is not accurate or helpful. It’s like an audiophile who swears music is not listening to unless you hear it on a $10K system or better.
You’ve probably already decided but I use a unity fusion mount on a Steiner otal, combined with a weltool IR illuminator. It is an 1100 mW LED illum, that beats the piss out of anything led based but a giant hunting Ilum or the d2, in size weight and power. The weltool is a beast, and I would say is on par with the kiji based on the videos I’ve seen of them. The whole setup will be a bit cheaper than anything paired with a kiji, or a perst 3. But I will probably end up purchasing a perst 3 before the year is out 😁
https://www.amazon.com/Weltool-LH2-Infrared-Throwing-Surefire/dp/B09DCTQ7J6
A mini clip and some shock cord to make a tether to the helmet. Last thing you want is the mount snapping and your nice new pvs14 falling to the ground.
Something like this https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07JR588FC/ and https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07R3XZZPY/
Other than that, have fun, and slowly save up for a better helmet. The rhino and usgi arm is just fine, but you might find you want something different down the road.
I think you are using the wrong binoculars. Higher magnification makes things dimmer. These should provide an addition 9.8 to the visible magnitude. Basically just as good as NVG but only costs $100.

Worked good for a lot of trips, but use retention just in case for these or the real deal. I now have a G-24 on my helmet. I bought Wilcox when I could afford them.
As far as paying 400% more to support an American made product? You already are in tax dollars for the military contracts for Wilcox G-24s. They are better in tightness, but not 400% better by any stretch.
Where I got mine. For $94.
https://imgur.com/a/iPmtQH2 they hold just fine on helmet. Have tested running in them for 7-8 hours, bumped into wood structures and they stayed on fine.
If you're not looking to use in combat, I highly recommend the Sionyx aurora and some sort of IR illuminator, as the wildlife isn't shooting back. You can use the camera directly or have it project to an app on your phone/tablet.
I use a Streamlight Super Tac for hog hunting, cheap and effective with the Aurora
No idea, never used one.
You could also consider rechargeable cr123 batteries
TLR VIR II is a solid option especially for 22. While we do sell them amazon currently has them cheaper than we are able to sell them for. Here’s a link https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-69192-TLR-VIR-Illuminator-Locating/dp/B07PKW46K4/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=tlr+vir&qid=1632946401&sr=8-3
Drop one of those desiccant containers in there. Pelican foam holds moisture and the case is water/air tight so it doesn’t escape.
Ask me how I know. (Didn’t happen to nods thankfully, but trapped moisture can wear on the boards/cause corrosion on the metal contacts)

The “bungee” is usually shock cord with a hook, and I never use those for retention. They are mainly used for tensioning some systems that have slop between different parts of the mounts. The cheapest way to do retention is with 550 cord or shoe string. My preferred retention system is this: boomerang tool Co. lanyard
We’ve stopped making them but we’ll hopefully be providing something that’s better going forward.
One thing that’s nice about the one you have is that the glass is replaceable - you can remove the glass from any sacrificial window to replace it. Take a thumb tack and insert into one of two small holes on the ring (on top of the glass) and push counter clock wise to unscrew the ring and you’re good to go to swap it out.
If you don’t have money I tried the fire field monocular on Amazon and it’s kinda amazing for the price. $155, used to be around $110, but it’s a gen 1 with a real phosphorus tube, illuminator is decent, has 4x zoom but I wish it was a 1X. Very clear, was really surprised but it’s going to look like a lightened version of what you see.

It can be mount to the ACH helmet via this kit: https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-Sidewinder-Mount-Compatible-14136/dp/B00URS4TIY
It’s a very adaptable kit for the money. I highly recommend it, I don’t ever night jiggle without having my sidewinder around my neck. I use it more than my x300v that’s on my helmet.
Unpopular opinion:
The cheapest half decent one on Amazon if handheld, then spend the money on a good one to helmet mount. For the helmet do a surefire vampire so you can also do vis light flood pointed up when nods are off and you’re indoors
I got this and it’s definitely not true 940nm but for the money it isn’t bad.

Sounds ok - night vision IR monoculars sell for around £160.
Some IR night vision systems have a large objective lens - like 50mm..... this means they can boost ambient dusk light...as well as boosting the dim IR led from the IR LED's.
The aperture of these glasses looks small, 20mm? So I imagine they boost available light only a little - and depend on you being (relatively) very close to the thing you're looking at so the LED's light it up strongly.
Here's a cheap type large lens version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yukon-NV-5x60-Night-Vision/dp/B001ARAYLC/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1460005552&sr=8-15&keywords=night+vision
