THIS OP. I promise, you’re not the first seasoned Nurse who’s struggled switching to the OR. It’s very common. Because it’s essentially nothing like traditional nursing. Your mentor might have had this experience with other nurses who just can’t get it/don’t like it, and end up leaving the OR after a few months (also very common.) I absolutely suggest chatting with her and letting her know you’re in it for the long haul and that you don’t want to give up.
And TAKE NOTES. Carry a pocket notepad. And I also recommend this pocket surgical book Surgical Notes: A Pocket Survival Guide for the Operating Room https://www.amazon.com/dp/0803694776/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_KYW3NQKZSVP6CR3ZX1G4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That lil book has come in handy countless times. It really helped me get a better understanding of the OR overall.
The link for the ones I bought is dead, but this looks very similar. clock link Amazon
I travel a lot (pre Covid) so try to make sure my guests have everything I or any of my friends want and have mentioned when I stay someplace.
THIS! The one I used while working in the hospital was filled with abbreviations, common lab values, conversions and other useful tips.

No problem! Honestly mine is a “waist trainer”, but I went through A LOT of back braces and they just didn’t give the support I wanted. Here is mine:
Easy zipper on and off! Wear a light cami or something underneath it❤️
You could try something like this product
Or foot spas with epsom salt.
If it's all the time you might think about getting custom inserts for her shoes and have some professional evaluation.
I know when I used to be in a Cath Lab before I got my lighter lead my feet took a beating. Once we got some fatigue mats, lighter lead, and better shoes it was less of an issue.
There may be some exercises that she can do for longer term solutions. A physical therapist or occupational therapist may be able to help if you have them available to you

A four-color, very fine point pen with refill cartridges. Ways for her to label or tether her items...it’s the WORST when you lose your favorite pen.

Dagacci has been great on me. I'm short and stocky, but the material has held up, stretches enough, lots of pockets, and matched tops/bottoms for a cheap price.
I highly recommend these as starter scrubs for 6 months before considering to replace them. I worked in a nursing home through covid in adverse conditions. They last for sure. Like.... grade B material compared to expensive brands.

I would say pharmacology is something people struggle with the most! We have to memorize a lot of drug names, classifications, mechanisms of action, side effects, and more. It can get confusing. I found this book on Amazon, I haven't used it but the reviews are good! Seems like a good introduction and overview of pharmacology. I wouldn't spend a ton on a textbook until you know which one your school requires!
I think anything that is self care would be appreciated... I have had my eye on a heated back massagers on amazon

I bought one for my boyfriend last Christmas and it is awesome, and there are less expensive ones on amazon too
Just don’t go to the store any extra than you normally would to get them- maintain social distancing! I would be super upset if family members were out and about to get me a treat when they could have just stayed at home- the gift that keeps on giving lol You are an awesome cousin btw ❤️

I have plantar fasciitis, and these shoes have helped me a LOT! They come in several adorable patterns, too!
I use this, to go between standing and sitting several times a day.
When I’m seated, I use this type of chair. I’ve been using one of these for years, and it really help my posture, and keeps pressure off my spine. I have three ruptured disks so this is important for me.
Also, if you are using a laptop look into getting a docking station, key board and monitor, so you can have proper ergonomics. If you are using a laptop on a standard desk for long periods of time, you are destroying your body, and creating long term repetitive stress injuries.

I have ncc a sleeping night shifter sign in my window which my neighbors are great about. But white noise machine is great!
Don’t flop! Stick to your sleep schedule and become a night owl.

They make these really cool clip boards that she could take to clinical that have lab values. I loved mine in school. Here’s a link:
