Oh okay, well I'm able to use it to do anything that's blocked on the university's network like with peer-to-peer gaming and all. So if that's all you're trying to do then it works fine.
I have used a free one for a little bit just to try it out. The program was called SumRando I think and it allows 1Gb of data per month for free.
Thanks! The VPN I ended up using was Private Internet Access. I wasn't willing to put out for the router, since I already have one (though it's a netgear) but went through windows' virtual wireless network option and got it
Noob question, but will I get caught using a VPN? I live in the apartments on campus and of course certain games are blocked online. Don't really care about torrenting, I'm just considering getting Private Internet Access so I can game online on those boring or rainy days.
There are no good free services. Go with Private Internet Access. They allow you the most anonymity because they allow you to pay with gift cards from places like Walmart or even Starbucks since you usually don't want to give your credit card info to services like this. I have no problems getting 1 MB/s download on the schools connection with PIA.
CNET did a giveaway of Steganos VPN keys.. Using Steganos I can torrent on campus at around 4Mbps. Good luck!
