The part is just "the lock". As others already pointed out, it's a cheap one, as in "non-standard" or "non-certified", thus harder to replcae or upgrade (if not impossible without rebuilding the whole mechanism).
Also mentioned was changing the batteries to name brand. But if you really do want to replace it, since it looks identical to those electronic lock combo with a key bypass**, I think found a kit that includes that same lock: https://www.amazon.com/WAH-LIN-PARTS-Replacement-Electronic/dp/B09GDW1XRV
Should be possible to swap after removing those two hexagonal (hex) screws at the top (and bottom I assume).
Finally, u/reddit051170 beat me to it, but ditto on applying metal grease. :D
Please let us know if this answers your question!
Cheers!
** I recognized the lock because of this video, which I recommend watching - the safe used in the demo has a near identical mechanism as yours:What to Know About Gun Safes with Key Backupshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRfN-LlFoO0
If you know anybody that works at a local pharmacy ask them to collect some desiccants for a few days. You will be surprised by the amount then can produce instead of tossing in a short time.
Now if you wanna spend some money I like these
What I mean is there is a point to a key override. It's there in case the electronic lock fails for some reason.
Everything you're talking about is currently available but is most common in commercial environments. There are plenty of safes that have time windows when they can be opened. They also have time delay features that require a certain amount of time to pass.
But if you're looking for something for 150 bucks, you're out of luck. Try thousands and you can get it done.
Otherwise, you can get one on Amazon and let a family member keep the override keys. https://www.amazon.com/Genie-Hand-Time-Lock-Safe/dp/B00NFIDTMK
You mean one of these?
Worrying about duplicate physical keys pales in comparison to the other ways these containers can be opened.
Well the dual custody is the expensive part due to the lock. A dual custody lock will cost you a couple hundred at least. Then you'll need to install it or have someone install it on a safe.
You might be able to scrape up one with two keys instead. A quick search at Amazon gave me this. But this is not a fire safe so bear that in mind. Seems kinda pricey for what it is imo. https://www.amazon.com/Genie-Hand-Dual-Lock-Safe/dp/B074H5SFPJ
A few hundred probably won't get you a real safe with some amount of fire protection, plus a real safe lock and especially one with dual custody feature.
This is a Sentry container like /u/v8jet describes.
Just understand theft resistance is virtually nil. A kid with a screwdriver could get in there.
If you just need something that keeps your cash away from your idle hands and you don’t think you would try to break into it. You could get something as simple as a “kitchen safe”. It is not meant for any sort of burglary protection or fire protection. It’s just meant to keep its contents out of your hands for a set amount of time. Not pocket sized unfortunately but I don’t think that exists as a product.
>The safe box can also be used as a Time Delay Safe. Using this modality, it will be possible to open the safe after a preset time interval. To use this function, move the lever that you will find inside the door relative to the time delay desired. Choose the time delay you wish to use on your safe: 1-2-5-10-15-20 minutes. Using 2 or more levers together the time of each lever will be summed to the total delay. For example, if you select the 5 minute and the 10 minute lever the delay will be of 15 minutes. Dial the first time your personal code on the keypad outside to start the countdown for the delayed opening. At the end of the countdown a beeping sound will warn you of the possibility of opening the safe by dialing again the personal code and rotating the knob. If combination is not entered within a 2-hour window, the system will cancel the procedure and it will have to repeated from the beginning. It will always be possible to open the safe with the key, at any time, in any condition.
It would be easier to install a hidden fuel pump switch on your car. If someone were to steal your keys or force the ignition switch, the car might start and even drive a little bit, but if the electric fuel pump switch is off, the car would stall out in about 15 seconds so they wouldn't get very far.
