It's plastic but heavy duty plastic with a stainless steel shaft.
My problem with the all metal kitchen aid grinders is that they are not dish washer safe. Also with the money saved you might be able to get a suffer the kitchen aid suffers work fine but it's slow and tedious compared to a stand alone sausage stuffer
