If anyone is interested in crash tested safety harnesses here is a report. The Sleepypod Click-it harness scored best.
I am using a brand called Instinct. Here is a link:
It comes in a 4 lb bag. My Shih Tzu is 12 years old and she eats the senior variety. A 4 lb bag lasts me 4-5 weeks and costs around $20.
I highly recommend this play pen: Parkland Pet Portable Foldable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E7PHYTI?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Is huge for him and thus provides space so he doesn’t feel confined. I got it for my little guy and he has his bed, a stuff toy bigger than him (recommended to reduce separation anxiety) and his bowls of water and food, along with one of these: Four Paws Wee-Wee Dog Grass Patch... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BV12XC?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
For when I have to go to the office and can’t come home to take him to do his business outside. Potty training him and crate training him has been tough because previous owners did a very bad job, but he is starting to get the hang of it.
Put one crate in the bedroom where you sleep. Dogs are pack animals so they like to sleep with you or near you.
Also, there are enclosures that you can split up with sections or use as a whole in case you need a big area or two small spaces for a pup:
Hi there! My pup, Panda, is a fully grown 12lb male shih tzu. He used this donut (linked below, size large) for two weeks straight when he had some masses removed from his hind legs and had no issues. In fact, our vet was super impressed because she hadn’t ever seen a donut that actually worked and didn’t annoy the dog. Panda even wore it overnight every night during those two weeks and only wriggled out of it once when I didn’t tighten in good enough before bed. Let me know if you have any other questions, but overall, I would highly recommend it.

Have you ever given Jesse any Freeze- Dried treats? All my Shih Tzus loved them. It's real meat, raw-ish because it's freeze dried, a gentle process that kills some of the bacteria. Maybe that can tell if he's a candidate for Freeze dried food or even raw .
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Small-Batch-Pet-Freeze-Dried/dp/B01KAOLIYW/ref=sr_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=small+batch+dog+food&qid=1622290792&sr=8-16
At least those are excellent meaty treats.

You could get that and put it on top if you wanted.
Yes, we stamped it! I purchased an ink pad used to take baby foot and hand prints. I did some research and found out that it's also non-toxic and safe to use on your pets! This is the one I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YRDQBK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NEsOBbRMB3K0N
Yep, that stuff is great. We have the Clippercide spray and that works well and it smells good. But the game changer was ceramic blades. They cost a little more but make a HUGE difference.
I brush daily to keep the tangled at a minimum - I like this double sided brush. I also use a detangling conditioning spray between and after baths
I’ve also read about adding in a pump of pet safe fish oil or coconut oil to their food to help with hair and skin health (shiny and silky so less tangled happen in the first place)
Poor wee thing. Hope she is doing much better soon.
I use this brush on my shih-tzu, but he doesn't have any conditions, he just finds it more gentle.
Hope you find something that helps her. Have you got her hypoallergenic food so her skin condition is a bit better?

I like these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07VBQRPQC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as they're coats and harnesses.
I've never met a tzu who hates clothes, I'm baffled. My boy has tantrums if he's naked. He has a whole box of shirts, jumpers, dressing gowns, pyjamas, thunder shirts... picks out what he wants to wear. My previous tzu was the same. Every one I've met was like this actually.
But you definitely need to get her a jacket (I have a jacket harness that I use when we go out, it makes things easier.

Is this a bit moist? Could be lots of things. For starters get yourself one of these: https://www.amazon.com/BETADINE-SURGICAL-SCRUB-Size-Veterinary/dp/B0071DI5WY/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2VUN0WXBBQ7Z9&keywords=betadine&qid=1666976387&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIzLjg5IiwicXNhIjoiMy44OCIsInFzcCI6IjMuNzAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=betadine%2Caps%2C109&sr=8-4
You can find something similar in your pharmacy. Dilute it with warm water-kind of dark tea looking. Wash the area. Give it 3-5 minutes. Wipe after to get most of it off, but not all with warm moist(water only) towel. Dab dry. Then apply something drying like baby powder. Then just repeat dabbing on the baby powder a couple times a day for 3-4days.
It could be the beginning of allergies, but it also could be like "impetigo" in kids. Regardless the above items/ method could come in handy in the future. It does not hurt. The Betadine washes wash of bacteria, fungus.... Mine had full blown allergies, food & environmental. This came in handy every so often ;)
Yeah, if you're not familiar with the process it can be easy to think you've fully brushed. Good call on the conditioner, didnt think of that! This was my favorite :) the stuff for dogs

That's funny! I try to take him every time I can too. He'll go on errands with me and I put him in a sling bag.
I got these on Amazon that clips to his harness. When he's not in the car, I can twist it behind the seat so it's not in the way but still easily assessable when needed. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B078T7HLXR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Worth every penny & very durable. Puppy can’t knock it over or climb out, and he can go through the puppy door if we choose to unlock it
I have a chihuahua with seborrheic dermatitis. Lots of times in different places his skin will get red, flaky, and itchy. Before finding out what it was, I'd had him cared for by 4 different vets totaling over 1,000 bucks. He's had dips, medication, several changes in diet, shampoos, conditioners, creams, pretty much you name it. I found this leave in condition on amazon that has hydrocortisone cream and rubbing that all over him 1-2 times a day keeps him comfortable. I get why you are reaching out because sometimes when you take your dog to the vet, they go to the back and google the issue just like you can. Otherwise my bruno wouldn't have suffered as long as he did and it totally broke my heart. Good luck to you.

I use Zymox ear cleaner for prevention and on the rare occasion that one of my Tzus get an ear infection Zymox solution clears it right up faster than antibiotics and without harming their gut flora.
Got it from Amazon! it’s been great. Super easy to put in the car because you just run a seatbelt through the bottom of it. She loves it.
Similar issues - we bath ours once a week with a chlorohexidine shampoo and also had the vet give him a cytopoint shot in the spring and another in late summer last year.
Another major thing is diet, if he gets too many table scraps (or too many treats) he'll get pimples/cysts and itch a lot more. Currently we have him on Blue Buffalo for senior dogs and his skin is a lot better on that than anything else we've tried.
They’re not strapped in in this video but this cover allows access to the seat belts so that you can use them. This is the hammock cover to the one I have. And I use these seat belts
We use the donut collar for our tzu's when they have bad skin allergies and they don't mind it too much.
Something similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0725C3RJX/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_13BDNDGSXVVKPN7FQMA2
I suggest going to your local pet store if you can to see which one would fit well.
If there's a possibility it's a food allergy, the shots won't work. Did they give you cytopoint and apoquell? Those work for environmental allergies. You could try a novel diet or hypoallergenic diet. Royal Canin has a prescription hypoallergenic diet. Or you could try a novel limited diet, so like if your dog always eats a chicken-based food, you could try a salmon-based food. Novel limited ingredient diets help because if its food causing her problems, they should go away after a few months of being on the limited diet. After that, you can try to give her ingredients from her old dog food, chicken or corn or something, and see what causes a reaction in her.
The royal canin prescription food https://www.chewy.com/royal-canin-veterinary-diet-adult/dp/115610?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12791446463&utm_content=Royal%20Canin%20Veterinary%20Diet&utm_term=&gclid=CjwKCAjwx46TBhBhEiwArA_DjEUaP5d9QAFKiLk6f-HBaJT7CuTeR0eBMj4DE4zftZE5w1gpEcVdRxoCUHAQAvD_BwE
It's recommended dogs eat that food because they can't have allergic reactions to it and then you can try to test different foods to see what causes a reaction, just like with a novel diet.
My vet guessed my dog was allergic to grains, we switched to a food that had the same protein as her old food but without the grain. He was right, it was the grains that caused her itching. Also, environmental allergies but those effects are a lot less severe with her than with the food. She takes cytopoint for the environmental side.
But if it's not food allergies, there could be an infection or other problem causing her itching.
I had purchased the slowton (and a few others) but ended up keeping this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08X1MDW4S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
My Tzu likes to pop his head out and the slowton was too high, causing more pressure on his neck. The FDJASGY isn't as high so my tzu can lookout without any pressure on this neck/throat. For reference, he's around 10#s and of course I use the safety loop hook.
I hope you are able to find something that works. I've taken my tzu into Kohl's, TJ Max, and Target in that sling with no issues.
I use this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Voyager-Weather-Best-Pet-Supplies/dp/B00M0V7URS
I’m not going to promise it’s impossible for him to slip out if he pulls backwards away from you…this one doesn’t go around the back legs. But facing forward there’s pretty much no chance if the harness fits properly.
As others have said, Hill's Prescription Diet z/d. It is designed for pups that have sensitive tummies and or BVS (this is when your dog throws up bile in the mornings). You'll have to get a prescription from your vet to buy the food but it is very worth it. They also make a wet food version that you can add as a topping.
This was the only dog food that cleared up my dog's stomach issues after 10 years of trying, what felt like, everything.

Oh not a whole egg at once. But I give my boy 1/4 egg for lunch and 1/4 for dinner along with the kibbles. He is 15 pounds.

My dog had been throwing up bile in the morning on and off for 10 years of his life. I have tried so many things through the years. Like yours, he would refuse to eat, usually in the mornings which would just compound the issue.
This condition is called BVS (Bilious vomiting syndrome) and is quite common in this breed.
A common reason for this issue is food sensitives and can be solved by putting the dog on a prescription diet such as:
https://www.chewy.com/hills-prescription-diet-zd-skinfood/dp/54548
Since I've switched to this food, my dog has not thrown up bile in over 3 months. He is so happy now and always wants to eat at feeding times. You would need to see your vet to get your dog a prescription, but it is beyond worth it. Hope it all works out for you and your doggo.
Sending love and comfort to your little guy. Your precious boy will bounce back in no time.

I had good luck with Frisco brand. Bought it in chewy and it came quick. It has a small opening for the harness and is water resistant.

Enjoy! They are the best! We take ours to get groomed every 6-8 weeks or so. Unless you’re ready for a part-time job, going short is the way. We have two and the one has curly hair that gets wild long and the other has fine hair that gets knotted long. After the 6 week mark it becomes tough to keep them contained.
We use two brushes at home, essentially a smaller and larger version of something like this:
Glendan Dog Brush & Cat Brush-... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071HFZB6V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Eye wipes are good. I can’t really recommend one over another. Also, frozen blueberries are a great treat that also help with the tears and staining.
They are real love bugs and lap dogs. I bet yours will love all the individual attention, although they are great with other dogs. Enjoy!!
I have found a this on amazon and bought a large for my shih tzu is 15 pound. vest - large
Also, it's a good idea to have this spray on hand for Hotspots. Ask your Vet to Rx it to chewys w refills so you don't have to see your vet all the time ;)
https://www.chewy.com/gentamicin-betamethasone-generic/dp/173546
Also, wash you Tzus paws (to get allergens off) after going outside to see if it helps.
It could be environmental, especially if the hotspots and itch gets worse especially in May (give or take a month) and August (give or take a month). If it doesn't stop completely in January, I would question the food.
Basically, if it's only food, it will be the same all year round. Eventually, She may develop digestive issues from the foods....However, if it seems all year round, but also gets worse in the warmer months then it's probably both.
You could try these. These are Lamb flavor. It helped mine a little (25-30%?) with the itch. Start at half dose for a couple of days and work up to the proper dose within 5-6 days. These have like "mother's milk" for the immune system and Omega Oils for skin in them : https://www.chewy.com/zesty-paws-aller-immune-lamb-flavored/dp/159498
There is Cytopoint injection, which is supposed to be safe. Either way, There is so much great , more healthy food out there than kibble. Just read the labels. Chewy has great info. Also, you can call the companies yourself and ask questions.

You could possibly try a pet sling carrier like this , similar to those baby slings.
Pecute Pet Carrier Backpack, Dog
There's the link for it. Its the book bag version but they do have one with wheels in the options. She absolutely loves it. Even lays in it when we're at the house! It's super sturdy and very well vented. She's only 9lbs so she has plenty of room to stretch out, lay down, have a blanket in there and usually sneaks in a toy as well lol I would totally recommend it. The only con I have is there's no loops for a seatbelt to go through so we have to put her in her car seat and then put her in her bookbag when we're ready to get out of the car. Hope that helps 🙂
I agree with all the comments. Like LousMama said, blow drying after a bath really helps. My fur baby does not like any dog brushes so I use the Wet Brush. Once he got used to it, he loves it. Brushing is now part of our nightly cuddle time before bed.
If you think it might be food-related, you could ask your vet for a prescription for a hydrolyzed protein diet. I had a vet recommend this one to me when we were trying to find out why she was so itchy t or she'll be covered in hotspots. Cytopoint won't help if it's food allergies.

I have used this kind way in the past. It did the job.
It may be her bowls, I use a slanted bowl for mine because their snout is so small, they don't like sticking their face in it.
Try something like this:

My tzu is also a picky eater, but when it comes to snacks, human food is the most reliable. As /u/Puzzleheaded_You4533 mentioned, bananas are a good first option. My tzu is a fan of blueberries and eggs as well.
As far as dog treats are concerned, I have found that she really enjoys Bil-Jac's soft treats, found Here.

Treats! 😁 I don't have trouble with top knot. I just say: it's time to fix hair, and he lays down. What I can't touch are first paws and chest. I would suggest metal comb like this, and gently approach to your pup. Comb it's hair easily, encourage him (her), and give a treat every time he cooperates. I'm using silicone rubbers to make a knot. They are easy to remove at the end of the day.
starting 5 months is the time they are shedding their baby teeth and they tend to be nippy at anything. I remembered almost all of our furniture feet got chew marks on.
We used this (Grannick's Taste Deterrent for Dog) from Amazon. I put a small amount on my fingers and let her try to nip it, it left a bitter taste on her that she runs away every time i put my fingers close to her face.
We also sprayed all our furniture feets and anything that had chew marks on.

I have a great car seat called Snoozer Luxury Lookout car seat. Amazon sells them (S,M, L). I actually put a pillow under it and then placed it on top of that, and secured it, for more height. I attached a harness to this seat. My dog is only 7 lbs. I never let my dog hang out the window while driving, never.
I use a booster seat for my tzu. It buckles in easily which is great for needing to switch cars without hassle and it has several leads inside to clip to her collars and harnesses. There’s also an optional cushion and machine washable covering. Mine is pet gear brand (see attached link) I also have their brand of stroller. Initially I had purchased a cheap fabric car seat which broke after 6 months of use (she was under 8 lbs the entire time we used the cheap car seat) so save yourself and just get a booster seat for safety and longevity.car seat for my 11 lb tzu

Our little boy loves this toy too! We got ours at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054C9B1I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&pldnSite=1
I found this on reddit, ordered it from Amazon (under $6) and my shih tzt's skin cleared up in a week. https://www.amazon.com/SynergyLabs-Veterinary-Antiparasitic-Antiseborrheic-Medicated/dp/B0037Z6VK8/ref=zg_bs_2975371011_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=Z2NHW9JAGP3K6FQWR2TK
I was struggling with mats in my shih for a while and then settled on a decent routine that has kept him mat-free for the last few months. I keep his hair grown out to some degree, but not to the floor (yet).
I brush every other day for around 30 min with this comb: www.target.com/p/comb-pet-grooming-tool---up-up--153-/-/A-52305812
It isn't the greatest quality, but I like the design and it gets daily maintenance done. If you want a higher quality comb, maybe consider the style and order a better one?
When he gets mats (it's really wet and snowy where I live and he usually gets one or two a week from running in the snow), I like this brush: Safari De-matting Comb www.amazon.com/dp/B0002ARR2W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It is basically a curvy one sided blade, so read the directions if you end up trying! It is kind of sharp. My dog doesn't care for this one, but it is so efficient at removing mats I have been convincing him with treats when using it haha.
I have found the best technique is to brush daily to every other day at the latest. I was shocked by how few mats he gets now with the every other day routine. It takes a long time the first few brushes, but once in the habit and mostly mat free, it goes pretty quickly.
Hope this helps!

Angel Eyes, worked wonders for my tzu when she was younger. Just add it to their food, they don't notice the taste. No more tear stains! And then as she got older, she grew out of it and we didn't have to buy it anymore.
I posted this on another reply- but

It's important to get the right size. But especially with the first pair, he is so much happier with them on when it is muddy. When it's muddy, he prances around like normal with the boots. Honestly, it's precious.

I just saw this thread, but have you tried sulfodene? One of our shih tzus used to get bad hot spots, and it really helped him out. It soothed his itching so he didn't worry at them anymore, and it helped to heal the spots (which were absolutely terrible;, they were these awful angry, crusty, red, oozing sores).
This is the brand I used, and you can apply it directly with a cotton ball or something, but I put it in a little spray bottle.
