ShootOFF is not available in a PPA. You have two options:
Option A - Automatic script from a ShootOFF contributor
Execute the following in a terminal window. Follow the prompts and there will be a ShootOFF shortcut on your desktop.
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/dklickman/ShootOFF/57542125f74fc7e5865d3a0f38f36208bd7ba835/ShootOFFv4.sh ; chmod +x ShootOFFv4.sh ; sudo ./ShootOFFv4.sh
Option B - The manual procedure
The download is a zip file. In Ubuntu, right click the zip file and click "extract here". A ShootOFF directory will be created in the same directory. Enter it and double click "ShootOFF.jar".
There are two notes about using Ubuntu.
You might have the wrong version of Java. If ShootOFF doesn't work after using the steps above, you need to follow this guide: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-java-with-apt-get-on-ubuntu-16-04
There is also a missing preload on some installations of Ubuntu. Starting a terminal in the ShootOFF directory and typing this command will start ShootOFF:
export LD_PRELOAD=find /usr/lib -name "v4l1compat.so"
; java -jar ShootOFF.jar
This is definitely more /u/phrack 's territory than mine. I believe this occurs if the version of OpenCV that is being used is out of date. We use opencv 2.4.13 but your path can override our library load. Can you check your path to see if there is an older opencv shared library in it?
Based on this stackoverflow, you can also try this workaround:
>export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5033253/grabbing-images-from-a-webcam-to-be-used-with-opencv
Does this look like something which would work with the shot to click?

Thanks for the input, I'm new to this software, and I think these games would make for excellent practice with the shootoff software.
