There is an free awesome app called Stelarium. It is showing you all the constellations and can also work with the compass built-in your phone.

if you install this app on your phone, and make sure your phone's sensors are calibrated, you should be able to point your phone at whichever star you want identified: SkyMap. Google used to develop this app, so it works pretty good for rudimentary star identification
I made it when I was 15 and it's arted and soundtracked by yours truly. That's an electronic version Danse Macabre you're hearing in the background. The 'goal' is to discover all the main sequence stars.
