This book is excellent, I haven't read loads but this talks about the 3 main stoics in simple language and has chapters on the main areas in only 77 pages. Reall good book
Honestly, this book by Nancy Sherman Stoic Warriors is probably the most relevant thing.
It's a great book and it explores the philosophy as practiced by real servicemen. I believe Dr. Sherman taught ethics at the Naval Academy and the book features interesting cases like servicemen who have lost limbs etc.
For your purposes I think it's way better than direct sources honestly since it's such a specific profession and way of life that you will be entering but that's just a guess.
There's curiosity, and there's curiosity.
Enough tricky language, let's get down to real-life examples.
Scientists (and good journalists) and curious to uncover factual things that bring the collective knowledge further: see Albert Einstein or Carl Bernstein.
And then there's TMZ's and Real housewives of ... franchise curiosity. Celebrity gossip so to speak.

Stoicism will show you. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius translated by Gregory Hays would probably be the best book to start with, and also The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. You read one page a day, all the pages have a date intended to be read on. I've just finished reading meditations and it was a great book. You can find all the books on Amazon.
