Well my world is set during the current year but the cold war never ended, causing the obliteration of Germany and some of Ukraine. There is also alien technology involved, a war between Demons from the Shadowlands and heaven, Androids and superheroes/ villains used in the fight. I had to look it up the exact numbers, but I know offhand it takes an incredible amount of helium to lift an average-sized person off the ground. You'd need one big balloon of about a 15.5 foot diameter or over 2700 small balloons to lift 100 pounds. I weigh 185 pounds, so I would need over 7000 average balloons. Which means: If you really want to do a character who is floating with gas-filled pouches, then I think you need to make it some kind of comic book-y super-helium or previously undiscovered gas that is millions of times lighter than air.

If this is for you personally in real life, I'd strongly reconsider the safety and efficacy of your idea.
