One of us, one of us...
I too picked up the bass about a year ago after getting into TWRP, and it's been real fun. You'll be surprised at how much you can learn with some practice.
The first thing I'd recommend doing is heading over to /r/Bass, subbing, and checking out their sidebar -- their FAQ, in particular, should help you get started. They're also a really welcoming lot (as you'll find most bassists are), so feel free to ask questions if need be.
Secondly, use a metronome. One thing you'll notice as you progress is that the Commander has impeccable timing -- playing to a metronome will help you get there. If your phone is an Android, I'd recommend this metronome app.
Lastly, you may want to consider getting your bass professionally set up. I obviously can't tell what state it's in from here, but considering you found it in your dad's basement, it may not be in great shape. Getting some new strings on that bad boi and making sure everything is set up correctly will probably make a world of difference, and will most likely end up costing ~$50.
Beyond that, figure out how to read tabs, and go learn some simple songs -- from there, you can only progress.
I wish! It's in Austin Texas, which might be the closest they will ever be to my home city in Arizona (Tucson is so BORING).
However, I heard that it IS being livestreamed. Here is the Twitch channel if anyone wants to tune in on that day: https://www.twitch.tv/sxswgamingawards
I just started transcribing the whole EP yesterday, but it will take some time until I get to Atomic Karate. In the meantime, try Chordify.net.
Keep it up, my dude! I remember starting out and making early 2000s lookin' websites, if ya keep at it you'll be whipping up real modern looking sites in no time. Just a word of advice from someone who graduated with a CS degree in 2019 and was in a similar position: learn how to host your websites, such an invaluable skill. Also you get to point to your actual domain name on your resume and that's pretty cool
Hey! I managed to put the solo into sheet music! It's for alto sax. Here's the link to it:

It's a little rough around the edges (first time writing sheet music) but the notes, rhythms and stuff are correct! I'm sure you can play it exactly like the song!
For transcribing, I suggest loading them into Audacity. I find that slowing the tempo down by 30% helps you hear it a bit better. Any more than that and the samples start doubling and it actually gets a bit harder. I will often use that in conjunction with Chordify or RiffStation to help identify chords. Once you know what chords are being played, you can apply some basic music theory and guitar knowledge to figure out what he's likely playing. Compare what you've figure out against live video footage. While you may not get clear fret-by-fret shots, you can at least get a ballpark idea of where on the fretboard Phobos or Bombus play. Transcribing isn't an exact science. Theres a lot that can be interpreted in different ways. Sometimes "close enough" is the best you can do.
