Op, what you need to do it use this suede and/or nubuck shampoo Saphir shampoo this should help lift off the dirt, wax, and grim. I would use all of the bottle and scrub really hard to try and get the wax out. The rugged and resilient line of boots do not require wax which I am confident you are aware now. You could find Trenton & Heath on YouTube and ask them what you should do. I haven’t seen them work on this kinda stuff before but they can fix just about anything and everything. If you do get the shampoo I would recommend cleaning the entire boot not just the spot or you’ll likely make it worse. I wish you the best of luck! If that doesn’t work you can fix it by coating your entire boot with the wax. It won’t look the same and texture would be different but at least everything will look uniform as a last ditch effort to saving these boots.
I have pins in my ankle from a fracture, and my outer ankle is sensitive. I picked up these which have been great during the break-in period.

They are the black and tan. The Vanguards comes with leather laces and they are similar to Captains so I figured “why not.” Turns out they are nice. I also have the Classic black captains and I took out their waxed laces and I put in all leather black laces. It all depends on the look I am looking to achieve. If I want then to be more dressy, I use the waxed laces and when I want them to look like casual boots then I use the black leather laces. They look good!
Great answer from /u/Wyzen, answered everything you really need to know.
These are the trees I use in my Captains and Cadets.

You can also cut up old tshirts into shoe polish cloths.
Got future use, I can recommend these. They’re relatively inexpensive and wrote well. The page in amazon has a size guide to help you pick which size you need.

Yes it’s the dark I’ve suede I think it’s called. I had just used a shoe brush to try and get as much dirt out as I could. Then I used (GEAR AID Revivex Suede, Nubuck and Fabric Boot and Shoe Care Kit with Protector Spray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002HH0PL8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_XZJWEX05T6HTC6N417CY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) I’m in mobile I don’t know how to “this” the link. I didn’t rinse them off as the directions say too but they came out well so. I also used some leather cleaner that Thursday sells on their website the Cobblers brand.
Neither of those gives me concern - remember that as you wear your boots, natural materials like leather and rubber will experience some predictable wear and tear, which can be easily offset by regular care to extend the longevity of your boots. For the discoloration at the edges, edge dressing will bring that back and if there is slight separation from the welt, a little shoe glue applied early goes a long way. That said, if you were to just wear these through the winter with zero maintenance and then take them to a cobbler for a little love and care at the end of the season, they could bring them right back to the starting line in a couple minutes. Even better, they can then show you how they care for the boots so that you can do more of the regular maintenance yourself. Happy to answer any other questions in the meantime!
Nearly a year in, I couldn’t be happier. It doesn’t scuff easily, and it seems to be mostly resistant to stains. I spot “clean” and polish the areas that get heavy contact - elbows and such - using a very small amount of Saphir Leather Cream
Here's a good video on it https://youtu.be/3NL2ebuXFvI
Its a subtle leather conditioner that won't waterproof much as I believe it has little to no wax. It will soften the leather and moisturize it which is what we want :) and they claim it won't change colour, which I very much agree with, most conditioners will darken leather
With the Adobe leather, you may lose the unique pattern that it has, that semi random patchy look. In the future it could come back but please be aware of that before you go ahead
I have three pairs of Captains. The Black and Brown (Thursday Chrome leather) pairs are size 7.5, and they fit well right away, but they were stiffer than I'd been expecting. Took about a week of wearing, and a couple coats of conditioner, to break them in, and now the fit is about as perfect as can be. My Arizona Adobe pair is size 8, and that pair had a slight amount of painful rubbing on one heel the first day. I solved that by wearing thick wool socks with them for a week until the heels conformed to my feet better, and now they fit great. I'd recommend you get some socks like these to wear with your Scouts until they get broken in a bit better.
I've only worn the Diplomats (size 8) for a half-day each pair so far, but I'd say that, right out of the box, they fit a bit more comfortably than the Captains did the first time I wore them. Very secure, with zero heel slippage. The insole is comfortable, but feels a bit stiffer than the Captains - I'm sure they'll get even more comfortable as they mold themselves to the shape of my feet. But the uppers are amazing - they almost feel more like a sneaker than a boot, and again, I'm sure they'll get more comfortable as the leather breaks in and conforms to my feet.
Adding to this post, this conditioner is said to be one that does NOT change colour
I'll order some this week and see how it goes
Albiet it'll be testing on an already darkened leather but I think that will be interesting nonetheless to see how layers of conditioner work, maybe I'll wait a bit before trying!
