Tolmie Peak is a 9.6-mile trail (out-and-back) with 2660 feet elevation gain in Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon. There is very LIMITED parking. The peak provides great views of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Rainer on a clear day. There are some good camping spots near the end of the trail as well. The trail also intersects with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and a trail that leads to Ramona Falls. The video contains footage recorded 8 days apart. The best months to visit are from April to November. Near the end of the trail, you have the option to complete a small loop. I suggest turning left, and not going up the right-hand side of the loop (it is very steep and you get similar views whether or not you complete the loop).

My g/f and I will be making a road trip from Philly to Johnson City, TN the end of this month and I’d like to propose during our first stop on the way to Roanoke, VA. We recently hiked the Dark Hollow Falls Trail in Shenandoah last month, I know there are plenty of options at Shenandoah but I’d like to find something a little closer to Roanoke.
I’d love to find something not too far off our route above. Ideally I’d like it to be a somewhat short trail as we will be spending a lot of time on the road, so 5-7ish miles or less in total, and a great view from the top is a must. Humpback Rocks and McAfee Knob look like good options but I’d like to see what other recommendations folks may have. Ty!
Awesome thanks for all the info! Super helpful springboard for thinking about things, and lots of places to look into. After looking up some "great walks" this one looks pretty cool on the South Island as well. Do you know how far in advance one has to book the huts? Is it like a "hit refresh at 7am the moment they're released" kind of thing?
Then since you mentioned proper gear, is there any special gear one needs or do just good hiking clothes suffice (ie. layers, no cotton).
Bridal Veil Falls Trail is an easy .5 mile out-and-back hike in the Colombia River Gorge National Scenic area just outside of Portland, OR. The falls drop 120 feet. There is an optional loop (.4 miles) nearby that provides views of the Colombia River. The best months to visit are from March to October.

Horsetail Falls (4 miles; 1391 elevation gain) in El Dorado National Forest, California. This is a very popular hike, so arrive early. There's a parking fee of $8 to do this trail and a day permit form you need to fill out near the start of the trail. There are campsites further down the main highway if you are interested. You can go further up the trail to reach a mountain lake (not shown in the video). Approximately one hour West, you'll find great wineries in El Dorado County, and to the North East is Lake Tahoe.

Nah, no parking permits were required. We parked along the same area you’d park if you were going to do the Cascade Creek East Fork Trail: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/cascade-creek-east-fork
Old Rag Mtn is one of my favorites. It is about 2 hours south of Bethesda. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/old-rag-mountain-loop-trail. Well worth the drive.
The first 20 seconds of the video were shot on my Pixel 5. The rest of the video was shot on my GoPro Hero 8. I bought this clip/clamp thing on Amazon for $10 that I clamped to my backpack strap. It's actually really nice, I prefer it over my chest mount and head mount. It's also pretty discrete, you don't look like a goofball with a camera on his head if you care about that lol. Also, I think I used 4 GoPro batteries for this whole video. I'll link the clip I bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BSE454S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
