Just some recommendations I have found that have worked for me, as with anything it does take some time to get used to using them and getting clean trims👍🏽👍🏽
Or you can also use scissors to clean up the edges but just be careful not to cut the fabric👍🏽

I use this one and it works great !
Try these out if your trying to trim the edges, or even sculpt your rugs, they're really good, low noise, and light weight
Found this, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079K4Z2RW/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_glt_fabc_M5BP66CERKD9BXB04MNF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Maybe double it up in the gun and just give it a go.
Maybe it might work? It's acrylic. Not sure if you can get it in cotton or wool.
Good comment u/LCZ_! I saw a few post from other users suggesting this projector who is affordable and apparently easy to setup. I never worked with it, but at this price I would give it a try if my overhead projector dies.
I bought this one before I was into rugs just to watch tv on and it works well. It’s on sale right now Limited-time deal: Mini Projector, CiBest Video Projector Outdoor Movie Projector 4500L, LED Portable Home Theater Projector 1080P and 200" Supported, Compatible with PS4, PC via HDMI, VGA, TF, AV and USB… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WRKSZ3D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GSF8XCGJ8GCR5F64KEZK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hey! I am still using this technique. It doesn't work on all shapes of rugs (I like to make 'melting' or 'dripping' rugs and it's tough to get around the drips cleanly). But it does provide a clean look when done properly.
Here is the twill tape that I'm using: Twill Tape Ribbon
Unfortunately yes... we’ve only played a few hours with this gun and it did the same thing. The solution that I’ve came up with is I inserted thermo Moldable plastic in the striped hole and insert the striped screw while the plastic was still hot. After it cools down, it create enough tension to hold both parts together.
Started with this one, but it broke after around 100 cakes... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075T7P7JZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_Y32837W3YA0FMMA79QQ3
Then I bought this one and it is easily 5 times better. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CMY13DG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_ZRTB8JMJ7JV4KY3CDJ1Z?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
If it were just the felt, it would move around a lot on the varnished wood. Additionally, we have a rug pad under it as well. The felt is easy to work with. The pad is essential for slippery floors, even more so on a boat.

I bought this paint on amazon : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07G47MG5B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I put 3/4 spoon of it in water and I let sink the whole ball of yarn for about 3 hours. Then i let the yarn dry.
The drying process was really long (about 5 days) maybe there was too much water.
Hope it will help you !
If you have Amazon available where you live, this is the Primary Tufting fabric I designed my frame around & is the cheapest option I've seen so far, 3 x 16 ft.
No sure if there's a defect in the gun or what. getting frustrated for sure

Projector technology is crazy nowadays so you shouldnt have an issue if buying a cheaper brand new one for around $100. Just make sure the quality is at least 1080p or higher and you'll be good. Not sure if Amazon is available in the UK, but I just sorted by "Highest Customer Reviews" and picked out this one, was on sale for $89 at the time though. Amazon Projector I absolutely love it, I have it running all day long when I trimming.
When I say felt I mean literally just felt no nonslip at all, if you swipe through the pictures you’ll see that the backing has a non slip side that would go on the floor, the felt side is the side that is glued to the rug itself.
https://www.amazon.ca/Barcelonetta-Acrylic-Cushion-Padding-Charcoal/dp/B07YCHHL5D/ref=asc_df_B07YCHHL5D/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=562687870935&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6962597117043966132&hvpone=&hvptwo=&a... this is what I’m referring to when I say felt as some thing I would use as it makes your rug feel flimsy and when on the floor will slip and slide.
I ordered this projector & like it : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MFM19SV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
But quickly realized there might be more into in than the projector. Make sure your frame is against a wall and perfectly perpendicular to the projector.
This is one brand on Amazon I bought and liked their guns. But I bought cause of price point.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SL49NVZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought a couple guns from Effy early on off Etsy. They’re good. Tuftinggun.com is also a good source. They’re more expensive though. So depending on your budget you can find a good gun between $165-275.
If it’s not too late try to return that gun to Amazon. They won’t care. Even ask if you could swap it out! But if you decide to buy anew I hope I was of some help.
For sure, the 1/8 thick one is the one you want Nonslip
My biggest Cost Effective Pro Tip. If you have Amazon buy this Tufting Cloth from ARTufting! It's phenomenal and very cost effective. I see alot of people selling Primary Tufting Cloth for about $35 a yard which is ridiculous! Here you can get a roll of Primary Tufting Cloth that is 39x197 inches for only $36.99! So for 2 extra dollars you are getting 5x the fabric! The same company on Amazon also sells the Carpet Trimmer and Guide you see everyone using for a cheap price as well! Good luck!
Here is an AMAZING deal on 100% polyester tufting fabric on Amazon. It is from a USA company called Tuft Love with the 20% coupon its under $5.50 a yard.
Amazon polyester tufting fabric under $5.35 a yard (3x4 yards)
100% polyester 20% off Amazon (3x3 yard cut)
THIS IS NOT A TIP, I am simply gonna say what I did since I'm not an expert on this (this is based in Canada)

Tufting gun:
- bought from amazon because every other seller was $100 more expensive, people say its a risk and I took that risk (it worked out just fine for me)
Frame:
-built it with my dad
-bought from home depot (cheapest wood in my area), all the materials for frame were there
Primary backing (tufting cloth):
- I started off with monk's cloth from Fabricland, which was honestly the best out of every other cloth I have bought other than the premium tufting cloth
Secondary backing:
- they have good ones on Etsy, pick one according to delivery prices for you (CPointbox is good for me)
Sheers:
- from amazon
- these are all the materials I use for trimming, THIS IS NOT THE LINK I BOUGHT IT FROM IM LINKING THIS ONE BECAUSE IT HAS EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE!!!
Glue:
-home depot
- I am actually looking for good glue at a good price so LMK if u know any
Yarn:
- Micheal's
- im a fan of Craftsmart

Hot glue gun
- idk cheap one, but not too cheap
- buy ur glue sticks from a dollar store, everything else is scam

I think this is about everything that I use, along with where I buy it from
I lied thanks to someone in this comment section we found it!
This is really cool, nicely done!
For backing I like to lay it on a big piece of felt, spray adhesive the middle, make sure it’s all flat and then trim the sides down & Hot glue them. For the edges I used a cotton twill like this one
Bunting Tape, Cotton Tape, Cotton... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B096W14JRL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I find it tidies up the edges (where you may have cut too far exposing the backing fabric) and makes it look neater and is really cheap to buy. You can also take the twill around curves quite easily when applying it by hot glue.
It also looks like you could use a thicker felt for the back. It hides any lumps and bumps and also gives the rug some sturdiness.
I hope this helps!
Amazon 💜
Sure it is here they have sales and discounts pretty frequently so it will fluctuate~ ✨

I swear by center pull yarn cakes. No tangles, no tension issues. Plop them right on the floor.
This one is the best. The other style died after less than a hundred cakes.
Yes, 110 works just fine. It just runs slow. If you want to make it adjustable, I know someone who is running one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GFQZFC1/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_GY6CQ551P4ZFQAA3GB5K He says it works great.
I have put miles of yarn through my ZQ-II. I use a 500w 110 to 220 step up transformer. I usually do it on 110 for detail work and 220 for the longer runs when I want to go faster. It's super fast at 220, I wouldn't recommend it for someone learning. I use these clippers and a pair of duckbill scissors to trim and carve.
I use this kind. I get 5-6 rugs out of it. It’s 39x197in. Comes out to 6.50-5.50 per rug. It’s not bad honestly. Just adjust your pricing.

This is the one I bought, don’t really recommend this seller bc the first one was a piece of junk. Requested an exchange for another cut pile and got a loop pile gun instead that was super greasy. I wasn’t able to replace it for a second time so I just decided to keep the loop gun for more technique practice, but it’s been a month and a half since then and I do miss my cut pile gun and haven’t reached for my loop pile in a long while after Christmas.

you won't get any experience until you get into it, obviously hehe.
I've bought my yarn from walmart (acrylic yarn) and I used this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GGJNXDS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_GBMWDHWAPXAD8PAB4VBN
I use two strings of yarn, so I bought yarn and I rerolled them which allowed me to use two strands. they usually go for about $3-6 a roll and can last awhile when you reroll them!!
monks cloth is nice, but its expensive. I recently started using burlap which was like.. 5-6$ for a nice sized one at walmart and can make about 4 small rugs with that.
it's much cheaper to build your own frame as well. currently it's about 46in wide/tall. there's youtube videos on how to diy!

I use the 500W Beetro Sheep Shears and they are great! I used offset napping shears before that with good luck, but it gets tiring with a bigger rug, or lots of rugs. https://www.amazon.com/Roberts-10-586-3-Duckbill-Napping-Shears/dp/B000COYLWW

I see a lot of Youtubers using these, also some that don’t. The way I see it, when you get these, you’re just paying for a decent name brand. What I asked myself is, do I REALLY need to get the name brand in order for the sheers to cut thru simple yarn? It’s not like we’re cutting thru plastic, metal, wood, etc, it’s just yarn. I searched for a cheaper pair that got great reviews, I ended up getting a diff brand, waiting on them to be delivered, but again, it’s cutting rugs. Can’t be too hard. If they end up sucking, sure i’ll get the better brand. Or if I end up sticking with this hobby and I make some extra $ off of this, and if need be, i’ll upgrade, but for now I got these 👇🏼

Ohh I thought you were talking about the thick glue like roberts 6700. Are you looking for spray adhesive to put on the felt to make it nonskid? Because for that I use this
Well, I nabbed an inexpensive winder like this. Then I figured out that when I'm feeding the yarn onto the winder I need to pay attention to make sure it doesn't pull too tight. A bit of tension, but not a lot.
It's hardest when you are first pulling the yarn from the skeen when its still a bit tight and there is a lot of tension. I found that pulling a bit out and then winding made the first part easier. That should give you a nice center-pull ball of yarn.
Or, you can buy those way cool yarn cones like they sell here or something similar. The yarn can lift off the cone super easy and I'd guess it won't cause too many rethreading issues.
Good luck!
It did happen to me in the past... The solution that I’ve came up with is I inserted thermo moldable plastic in the striped hole and insert the striped screw while the plastic was still hot. After it cools down, it create enough tension to hold both parts together.

I use this needle, personally! It has 3 different sized needles that come with it and you can change the height of the loop easily, making it versatile. I also use Red Heart Super Saver sometimes! It's a great starter yarn with tons of colors. I agree with the other comment, though, Big Twist yarn is really good, and oftentimes cheaper depending on what sale is going on (the Soft Touch variety is $2.07 per skein last I checked).
Regardless, I wish you the best on your new tufting endeavor!

Everyone says Joanne's burlap never works. With burlap its all about the threads per inch. 7-8 per is no good for tufting. 14-15 per is much better. I noticed Walmart's doesn't say on the package. Here is a 15 per inch from Amazon Link
If you're trying to manually feed the yarn through without the use of a threading tool, it's going to be nearly impossible to do.
Like other comments mentioned, this is what I use and they work great for stringing multiple strand of yarn through your needle.
