Having done this job about 8 times across 2 different Jeeps, I've come up with some tips and tricks:
- Not only do exhaust leaks sound bad, but they can cause a small amount of air to get sucked back into the exhaust pipe which will look like a lean condition to the O2 sensor and will cause the computer to run rich.
- To find exhaust leaks: cram a shopvac hose into the exhaust pipe, and blow air into the exhaust by connecting the hose to the shopvac's "out" port or to a leaf blower. Fill a spray bottle with soapy water. Spray all over the manifold and downpipe. Every leak will produce frothy bubbles! Aside from the usual manifold cracks, I find that the manifold-downpipe donut gasket usually leaks.
- My exhaust manifolds eventually crack regardless of the brand, whether it has bellows, etc. Replacing my engine mounts (with Brown Dog rubber mounts) may have made them last longer, but they still crack. I just get the cheapest manifold off amazon now since I go through so many.
- Every exhaust manifold I've bought had a warped mating surface. I try to bend them as straight as possible before installing.
- This Remflex carbon gasket is expensive but compresses much more than standard gaskets and allows for a more forgiving seal: https://www.amazon.com/Remflex-10-001-Exhaust-Gasket-Engine/dp/B00IQHL6KC/
- The downpipe donut gasket deforms and won't seal well if re-used.
- Use washers to shim the 2 bolts/nuts that hold the manifold to the downpipe so that they're easier to get a wrench on and hold in place to tighten down.
There are plenty of frame holes to reach with the wands. One has a fan tip the sprays 360 degrees as well as out the tip and the other is more directed. The gun can be used without the tips for a wider spray pattern. Get the bulk gallon tub and the spray gun over the spray cans. They have different chemicals and cost is less over time with bulk as you get many applications from the gallon. This is the sprayer I bought and it has pictures of the wands and tips. I also got some plastic plugs for the frame that I put in after spraying it. I do a power spray flush in the spring to clean it out for the summer and then reapply.
We used two people - one with their full weight on the child seat. And also one of these brackets to get keep the seat belt in place. The 2nd person just clips it in, but you want it tight!
I use this stuff I used 2 cans for the whole frame. I drilled 4 3/8 holes about an inch away from each control arm bracket. Then used 3 cans of fluid film to spray the rest of the frame
my soft top folds back like this and it feels like its about to snap in half every time i remove my top completely i just had to stand on my hood to pull the soft top all the way up.
I really don't understand how this would be useful at all, between how low it is and when it's hooked up you really don't get to use the tc lever.
Personally I'm gonna attach it to my (grab handles)[https://www.amazon.com/Hooke-Road-1997-2006-Wrangler-Unlimited/dp/B01MY9IGC9?ref_=ast_sto_dp]

I haven't driven around too much to test its durability but it's cheap enough. O Reilly sold me one with flat pins so it could go either way.
I unfortunately had a break in and had my stereo stolen - what I use now is a stealth setup . This unit has no screen so everything has to be controlled from phone or the little control pad that can be mounted where ever. I mounted the unit itself behind the glove Box and now my stereo slot is just a giant cubby.

I haven't had mine long enough to make a good judgement. I just bought mine off Amazon. I wanted ones with the Amber turn signal. I really like the style.

I have these headlights and then I have these resistors . Everything is plug and play, much brighter than my old headlights, plus you can wire in the Drl inside the headlights if you want to. No issues after a year definitely recommend it!
I actually recommend spending a little more for the extra visions.

There’s probably a cheaper non mopar option, ditching the plastic housing and replacing the female pins but decided to go the mopar route
Just a guess, but I bet they don't require front plates in New York.

This is the paint I used, although it wasn't nearly that expensive. It cost about $6 a can when I found it
The threaded hole into which the O2 sensor fits is called a "bung" and they're pretty easy to weld into the exit pipe of the cat. Would probably take 20-30 mins for a shop.
The rattle could be the exhaust pipe hitting the forward edge of the transmission crossmember. The rubber bushing that supports the cat wears/compresses over the years, the pipe sags, and eventually starts hitting.
I have used this catalytic converter on my TJ and XJ; it has an O2 sensor bung:

If you like the traditional look, try these. Much better than stock with the same look. These are the European model and are not dot approved. They have much better cut off than the dot approved ones.

I bought a cheap replacement top last year from Amazon and it's been great. Completely waterproof and was a great upgrade. May be worth considering if your soft top is worn. I used these plugs and only plugged the four holes that are the biggest issue for frame access. I keep them in year round and remove to flush it out with a power sprayer at the local diy car wash. The frame can still breath and dry out inside. I used rust oleum rusty metal primer. It’s a rusty red color paint and works very well. I then cover that with a black primer, or flat black paint to match the frame. It’s just the frame so I’m not too worried about final looks, more about the right protection. It does look fine and after some road grime and washes and ultimately fluid film it doesn’t matter much.
Was going to say the same thing about the milk jugs. It's actually a really good thing that you found a TJ that still has them. It usually means the vehicle has always been taken decent care of.
As far as mods. An easy/cheap one that I love is adding Grab handles. As far as the pricier mods, anonymousjeeper is right, it really just depends on what you want to do with it.
Before purchasing a lift kit, I would highly recommend reading through this book. There is a whole chapter dedicated to lifts, including every step with pictures in great detail for installing a 3-in lift kit. Seriously, buy this book before making any changes!
As some others have stated, you will likely need a few more modifications other than what is included in the kit. If you plan on running 33in or 35in tires, you are almost certainly going to want to regear your axles with the 2.5 L. You will likely need a slip yoke eliminator and a CV drive shaft in the rear if you are going over 3 in. And certainly consider spending the extra money on the top quality kits with adjustable control arms and track bars to keep your alignment good and vibrations down.

I highly highly recommend getting THIS BOOK. It goes into every detail of properly modifying your Jeep, and more. Worth every penny

In Dunwoody GA i use this on my soft top TJ with half doors. It’s not 100% waterproof but I haven’t had any issues. I had it in with my top up windows off in last nights storm. I recommend it more than any other android head unit I’ve used.
The bulky spot on the bottom left is where I had excess. I could've avoided it with better planning but I wanted the tape on the bottom. It took 1x 2 pack of wraps to get it done with about 8-10" of excess which I just double wrapped. The wraps cost me $14, I like the look of the cork. Got them on amazon here. Looking for brown/tan electrical tape to put over the black.
I cut the existing cover off. I had to custom cut some pieces for where the outside connects to the inside. I recommend starting on the passenger side below the cruise and working counter clockwise. You'll have to sister the pieces together at the same place on the other side and then your taped end will be on the inside of the vehicle. Or you could get one double length piece if that's possible. I have never used handlebar tape before this.
I used SEM Trim Black with great results. I used an adhesion promoter first. 1+ year on the flare looks the same as the day I painted it.
The problem with bed liner is that it's textured - and you have to strip/sand it all of if you end up not liking the textured look. But it's great if you like the look!
Looking at a similar one with more reviews, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY53YJ3/ref=psdc_8323665011_t1_B0781KY16Y Vendor says no. However, the size should be right, likely just the mounting holes between bracket and grill are just off. I'd bet with a little modification it could work. Order one, line it up and see whats off, and if it's not going to work, just send it back.
Just make sure to report back, because I need these as well. One of my brackets is JB welded "good enough", would like to replace.
thanks for the feedback. I have that exact stubbornness! oooooh, thats soo good to hear!

It's likely this. I have the same problem. There's an easy way to know for sure. If you hear the noise, press down or pull up on the 4WD shift selector and it should go away temporarily. Usually it comes from a worn bushing and won't effect anything other than banging around and making noise. I bought this kit to repair it but I never got around to actually installing it. I've kind of gotten used to it. I just push in of pull out the selector a little bit when it gets on my nerves.
However, I have read from some people that sometimes they will slip out of 4WD from this problem. Drive around somewhere safe in 4WD a bit to see if there's some slippage. If that's your case, then you should definitely repair it.

I painted these with bed liner and love them. They work great even tho they are designed for a motorcycle.
It doesn't really matter, an install kit will keep the install looking clean. Install kit and don't forget the wiring harness
