Ok, I got it to run in the following way, although it did not work with my files.
choco install yarn
.yarn global add @andymatuschak/note-link-janitor
.note-link-janitor .
, or from whereever you want, just write the correct file path. And was it for me. As I said, didn't work, and complained a lot about, for example, my .bib file, and any files that don't start with # Title
. If you want more detailed explanation, you can ask me about the specific step.
I also wish for some backlink support. I hope it comes soon, but from what I've read, it's complicated, in part because a database isn't used by the program, so to create the backlinks, it would need to search through the files every time, and that's very slow.
Have you tried the Obsidian app for editing MD files on Android? It's fairly close to Zettlr, feature wise. You could use a third party app for Onedrive sync, like this one. That would presumably solve your problem with files in the cloud not being updated.
Check out the Zotero Documentation and look under 'Linked File Attachments'. There they describe how you can do it with DropBox, or GoogleDrive and the ZotFile-Plugin.
If you need any further help, let me know and I'll try my best to help.
PS: I was confused and slightly scared when setting this up the first time. Feels even more scary to suggest someone else to do it. So just in case always make a backup, before you try something ^_^'
After months of hard work, Zettlr 2.0 just became a reality! Feel free to download it and have a look.

Dropbox is awesome. I use https://www.resilio.com/. Its a person BitTorrent for your files across your devices.
I like Zettlr best because of the interface, it's catered toward academic writing (citeproc), and it works with the Zettelkasten system--which is the best way to take notes.
Currently I'm using Emacs(spacemacs) for my writing and notes, but Zettler is the best of the opensource writing bunch.
I've never had a problem installing it on Win10.
Behind Obsidian is a whole team of full-time developers I think, they create https://dynalist.io/ before (they even use the same icons and fonts in both apps :P)
So what u/nathan_lesage (with the contribution from the community) achieve is a really big deal!
