I'm a little late to this, but here's my recommendation.
Download a virtual machine, and a PC image. Run Genie or Stormfront on the image.
>From a Main Temple POV clerics openly casting ALL have to be considered apostates. Apparently the Temple is feigning ignorance that ALL exists (and by extension the Misenseor Abbey incident occurred) either to save face or because they're complicit on some level (or both).
Ayep.
>My personal theory that ALL is an incomplete and imperfect example that's probably pretty similar to the genesis of the existing Immortals. The sorcerous twist to it and the synthetic godling byproduct are almost certainly the mask of an unknown parasitic extra-planar entity siphoning off devotional energy for it's own purposes.
Curious. I didn't come to the same conclusion, but I can see why you'd think that, especially given what the Misenseor Abbey event seems to quite possibly be a result of. I recommend this book if the topic interests you. The series is pretty fun if the topic of Necromancers in DR lore interest you too :)
>edit: As far as how this relates to Necromancers, it's unlikely it does at all beyond sharing the characterization of high sorcery.
It relates to Necromancers insofar as the goal of The Great Work is to attain Transcendence and break the cycle of the Immortals siphoning off mortal soulstuff. Hilariously, Clerics seem to have attained a proxy of Transcendence, though instead of doing so themselves, they forged a piece of their soul and devotion and hubris into a godling to be worshiped instead. Right idea, wrong execution! Each of the High Sorceries that were released actually kind of overlap with something that everyone is worried Necromancers are doing/will do. Which, frankly, I thought was part of the entire point of the release.
