I sold the wheels I had for sale yesterday, and bought the Pioneer AVH-4400NEX instead of the 2330. It was $200 more, but has wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and works flawlessly. I can finally leave my phone in my pocket and Android Auto automatically starts up wirelessly.
If this link doesn't work let me know
Totally understood, but you can get a full set of garbage shocks for this on Amazon for like $100. I totally respect not being able to put the best parts in. But you shouldn’t need to inconvenience yourself too much to get a single shock on the cheap.

I’d probably be sure to replace these in like a year, but they should get you by for a bit

Did a e46 headlight search on Amazon.
I wouldn't buy again tho
They are white H7 LED bulbs and I use them as my daytime running lights. I got them on Amazon and was skeptical they would work right and look great, but I was pleasantly surprised how they turned out beautiful! I love them. My mechanic put them in for me. Here is what i did to improve my quality of life, i bought this on Amazon, with a diagram that you can get from here i cut the input cable from the cdbox and connected it to the Bluetooth device so it has now power and sends audio to the stereo and that is it, i have now a Bluetooth stereo that is somewhere hidden in the dashboard, i do not have to charge it and the fidelity is amazing.
it's part of the climate control relocation kit. Dropped the AC controls down, relocated the cig lighter from the ashtray and added the 2 USB ports
I got this one because at the time it was prime shipping.. and cheap..
Starting the refund process now.. which TOPAZ offers 12 months, but amazon only does 30 days, had to speak with a rep for it to go through.
Spending a couple more bucks on a BEHR from FCP auto now
Get a block tester, it tells you if the air bubbles are exhaust gases. I recommend this one: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06VVBSFTF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QOHIFb4J416Y4
Follow the instructions - wait for the car to get to operating temps and get a friend to Rev the engine a little bit while sucking the air through the tester. If the test is positive you have a head gasket failure.
Mine has been displaying very similar symptoms to yours and the test showed a bad head gasket. I’ve decided to replace the engine as the m54 seems to be notoriously difficult to repair once warped (even the best local specialist didn’t want to do the job), so a new engine with less miles isn’t costing much more
I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure standard OBD2 scanners will still read most Check Engine codes. They changed the design up but this is the link for the Autel scanner I picked up (Mine looks like the larger red version with a smaller screen) which reads everything from Check Engine to a full car scan (ABS, Airbags, electric switches, etc). No issues reading anything on my 2002 330i.
Yeah I have a problem with a camera that keeps restarting if I plug it in to my computer, so I just got this USB microSD reader which is convenient. This is the one
Basic, cheap and functional. I use it on my 2008 e61, but it should work on all E series bmws.
This will do all the modules, reading and clearing codes. I haven’t used it for things like converting a car from halogen to hid. Used BMW Scanner 1.4.0 (people rave about inpa, but I didn’t like the interface) and a windows XP laptop. But you need to be a bit of a computer nerd to get that setup.
Gotcha. I used this one when I cracked my valve cover putting it back on. Fit fine. Felt OEM. No leaks after 6 months.

I ran an aux cable as shown into a bluetooth puck that is mounted to my dash. Whole setup was pretty cheap and it works great.
I would wager as long as you have the 'mode' button it should work. If not, hit a junkyard.

Something like this:
This is the one I got on German Amazon
You don’t usually need to replace the lock, just fix the one broken ring. Just google key lock repair and find videos on yt
Hi you can find it on Amazon. It's something like this, I will not vouch for any seller so check the ratings and I also would search for the software (called PA Soft) on e46fanatics rather than the provided on CD. There is a lot of info there also on how to use the program, you should read their sticky on it, best of luck.
https://www.amazon.com/iSaddle-Scanner-Programmer-Diagnostic-Windows/dp/B008RHJTS2
Okay, what he means is that the plastic covers on the headlight assemblies come off easily and you can replace then for very cheap.
I bought this I think it looks great and feels great, photo after install: https://imgur.com/a/RKDRvqk
Do you have a round diagnostic port under the bonnet as well as the OBD2 port? If yes- only the ECM is connected via the OBD2 port and you will need an adapter cable to read the other systems.

First google hit is this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Round-Diagnosis-Adapter-Scanner-Connector/dp/B07DW6F6HM

But they are fairly readily available.
Found it, not sure why the price is so bs but this is the exact one
If the manual key does not work, it is either the lock cylinder or the door actuator.
As for unlocking the door, the AAA tow truck guy used something similar to this for my touring when the battery died and my door actuator broke.
Didn't have OEM stuff in there to start, so can't comment, but it seems decent, the old one would get caught up in the hood opening latch and the tabs were broken, so the grille was rattling around. So definitely improvement from that.
This was the one I picked up: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08QYNL5BD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks! I've been eyeing this kit on Amazon.ca. The description seems to fit but Amazon said they're uncertain. Anyways I just ordered it.
It’s a lil pricey for what it is but worth it to me for a cleaner look https://www.amazon.com/Dynavin-Double-Stereo-Single-1998-2006/dp/B07MPTLSNF/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=NPT7BMTZX9RK&keywords=dynavin+e46+hvac+relocation+bracket&qid=1662324190&sprefix=dynavin+%2Caps%2C93&sr=8-3
One that actually matches the interior and has buttons is this https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09HCGMMG6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Steering wheel buttons work with included module, bmw startup menu is nice, and the 4g 64gb model is instant on after the first boot up.
Yeah! It's an aftermarket one, I couldn't justify $150 CAD vs $20....so far so good, I can update in a few months of wear if its fallen apart or not.
Yes, it's shorter than the standard one I believe. I'm not made of money, so the busted OEM one I replaced with this replica, which looks good enough I think, and weighs about the same (and was reasonably priced). I'm not a huge fan of how most aftermarket knobs look.
One review says it doesn't fit well, but it was just fine for me.
OH very important I forgot to mention. The culprit could also be the clips that connect the card to the door. There is a foam piece that seals in water that flattens over time. When I had wet carpets, the foam was flat or missing and the vapor barrier was intact. Also buy these. https://www.amazon.ca/51418224768-51411973500-Panel-Retainer-Clips/dp/B08FH7T2T6/ref=asc_df_B08FH7T2T6/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=579042499347&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13599874428250090241&hvpone=&hvptwo=&a...
If your chrome sill is wet but carpets are ok, that's an early sign of vapor barrier leak. When a little water enters inside, it slips between the joint on the weatherstripping and goes on the chrome sills.
This is the video I used among others. There are different tips that are helpful in each video. https://youtu.be/QrYU1ImOqVM
This is the brand of bytul tape I used. https://www.amazon.ca/XFasten-8-Inch-30-Foot-Sealing-Patching/dp/B06WLQ3WLS/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=3DZJ6U3HN7R1L&keywords=butyl+tape+xfasten&qid=1659378360&sprefix=butyl+tape+xfaste%2Caps%2C432&sr=8-5
It's the only correct way to do it. Remove all of the old bytul from the door and foam and place a new bead of this. Top tip is to use a balled up piece of the bytul to grab the pieces. Use gloves and it's hard to clean off of your hands. Don't use silicone caulking as it will dry out. This tape will remain soft and seal well long term.
Yeah its very soft feeling. I hated the Alcantara cause of age it felt really rough. This one was made by mewant on Amazon

I bought this one for my wife’s 325ci and it works perfectly fine. You’ll have to remove pretty much entire dash (AC, vents on the top) to fit everything in and then carefully instal everything back.
I have a facelifted car which has a different bracket and bumper than pre facelift. I got these (https://www.amazon.com/QUALITYFIND-2002-2005-BM1067107-51117030618-51117030617/dp/B09HTQGRZW). You might try taking the part number from there. These weren't OEM and I had to cut them a little to get them to fit but I'm happy with the result. I remember finding the OEM brackets somewhere and they were like $50 and I ended up getting these for $15 which work fine
Yep, found this video last night and they describe how to resync.
Anyways, going to post the amazon link if anyone comes across this later on looking for the same help: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RHJTS2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and I'll leave an update if it works.
I see, so u just buy the inpa cable with the OBD 2 stick to the USB adapter and then install the driver on ur laptop? https://www.amazon.com/LZLRUN-Diagnostic-Interface-FT232RL-Programing/dp/B017IG81SQ i was looking at this one
How does it compare to BMW Scanner 1.4.0. It seems to be similar. Both u plug into a laptop and install a software.
I had the wouldn’t turn off issue. This is the one I bought to replace. Works well, just make sure you test it/plug it in before Install. I had to remove the plug from the wire to feed it thru the slot which kinda sucked but its doable, just takes a little patience.
This is what I used. Kept the headlights in, pushed the hose towards the front, tool in, a little bit of cursing and wiggling and got it out.
HVAC relocation kit - Feels like cheap plastic but I could not find a more reasonably priced kit and it still fits perfectly.
AVIN Avant 4 - I chose the PX6 processor because I read it's a huge difference in overall performance over the PX4.
There's a feature on the Avant 4 called "Loudness" which I don't have the vocabulary to describe but it does make the music I listen to sound better. It also has adjustable EQ presets so you can customize each for certain genres/podcasts/etc and load them via the EQ button on the right side.
Yes the speaker button still affects the surround sound.
The USBs are from this HVAC relocation kit since I didn't have the navigation system originally. Unfortunately, I think only the bottom one works right now so I'm waiting on them to send a replacement.
I never use a 3 jaw puller for anything but gears. I spray them down introduce and use one of these:https://www.amazon.com/OEMTOOLS-27037-3-75-Axle-Puller/dp/B004FDMWE0
Every so often of tightening it I smack it with a hammer. However axles that haven't been off for 20 or so years usually means it's getting a hub
What I and a friend of my did is buy the original cd player and buy the BlueMusic bluetooth adapter, the + version with the microphone for habds free talking. It works great and is quite easy to install. DM me for help.
You’re using the connector under the steering wheel, which only communicates with the DME. You need to use the round connector under the hood with an adapter like this. That port has access to all modules.
Yeah, that's exactly the same problem I'm having. I've got this coming tomorrow to trim the inside:

Permatex makes a gasket remover that works. Squirt some in a glass container and paint it on with an acid brush. Let it sit a few hours and poke it off with a wooden toothpick. It takes time, but it does work.
Keep that shit away from everything but bare metal, glass, and the acid brush.
Go look on facebook market. TOns of cars there.

Yeah it’s incredibly easy. You pop the cover off the bumper, screw in the bolt provided and tighten it down, then the plate holder attaches with another bolt. It’s a tad on the pricey side for what it is, but it’s the best looking in my opinion and you can easily take it off for a car show or photos. It’s also built very well and has taken the force of a parking lot bump that would have otherwise damaged the car.
Edit: this is what I bought. Made in Oregon.

You can save a LOT of money if you think you're up to the task, because this is a very labor intensive job.
Also, a lift like this one is very helpful.
You can get a bmw aux adapter which just plugs into the back of your radio. (i have a different one, this is for business cd radios). You to read the descriptions to make sure you get the right one.
Then you get something like MPOW aux bluetooth adapter. 20 bucks and works great.
BLUF you are killing your cats by running the car with the MAF unplugged.
So there are a couple of reasons why the M54 burn oil, dirty oil scrubbers, and a bad CCV are the top two.
To clean the rings out, they make a top end cleaner, typically it's made by GM: https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-3015-Engine-Injector-Cleaner/dp/B07CZ17LK3/ref=sr_1_2?crid=Q8YEBF4DWAAY&dchild=1&keywords=gm+top+end+engine+cleaner&qid=1597333308&sprefix=gm+top+end%2Caps%2C257&sr=8-2
You will have to pull the spark plugs out and put that stuff into each chamber and let soak overnight. It helps if you jack up the passenger side or if you have a RH drive, the right side of the car. This will level out the motor some to ensure the fluid gets all of the piston ring.
As for the CCV, that would depend on where you live for up north in the rust belt, you will need the Cold weather CCV, see SI B11 08 03 or just google it. The CCV typically lasts 8 years, but if you put in a cheap kit, who knows.
So the main reason why a BMW will run rough at idle is vacuum leaks. Inspect your intake boot between the MAF and the throttle body for cracks, splits or separation. Or you can have the intake smoke tested, as that will find all the leaks for sure.
"... it didn’t arrive without an O Ring" So you do have one...?

Get a mechanic's stethoscope and use that to find the source of the noise.
Your sound really could be anything, tensioner pulleys, alternator bearings, even the compressor. You touch the tube of the stethoscope to each component to find the one making the noise.
Bonus: you can usually do this diagnostic without removing anything or getting dirty!
This thing right here is the answer. $20 on Amazon and the best money I have spent on my car. It wedges in between the passenger seat and the center console. The cup holder is sized for a 12 oz. can, so you can't fit your super-big gulp from 7-11. There is also a section for phone and wallet, keeping them in place during high-g turns, rather than sliding off the passenger seat and into the footwell.
We’ll see.. I wanted to get the job done and over with quick so I decided to get a kit on amazon (free 2 day shipping) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JMG9O1O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_1rdu2llJg61pz
I wasn’t expecting lifetime quality material but something merely that would merely last more than 500 miles (hoping)
While I was doing the VANOS, I did the exhaust camshaft because I noticed it was leaking but maybe it was leaking internally? I don’t know I will more into when I have time this coming weekend.
