Yes! We as Americans are afraid to name things as white culture. We want to just say White=American and the default. And it is exclusionary, and washes away our true history and culture.
This book says we can’t be post-racial till that happens. https://www.amazon.com/History-White-People-Irvin-Painter/dp/0393339742
In today’s edition of pandemic boredom, I just scanned the Lucky Shopping Manual for the first time since probably 2004. Amazingly so many of the recommendations hold up. As you can imagine some examples look dated, but there are tips about fit and proportions that are useful. While other things about work clothes and minimizing features are products of its time. Anyway it is a good guide.

>Ooh I didn't even think of the stylist angle! I loved the Rachel Zoe Project when it was first on, but there has been some sanitized glamour on red carpets lately and I want to see how it plays into changes in the luxury industry. Also very interested to read if moving from family owned was then end all & be all of a harbinger or if the industry was headed data-focused anyway, no matter who paid attention to it. Also thank you for the newsletter link!
It is so tricky, because now that the luxury brands are in giant conglomerates - they have economy of scale indies can have. And then of course there are so many new venture backed brands which as another wrinkle (that happened after the book came out). I am wondering how the pandemic will impact luxury. Maybe is retail dies, and people are doing pre-orders and made to order models, it might be easier to launch and support an independent brand because you can better control your cashflow. And the younger designers can see how the current system has burned their older peers. Maybe we will have a new era of luxury, that is more sustainable for the planet and everyone - from the production line to the actual designers.
P.S.House of Versace is great. And Battle of Versailles.
A friend casted it in brass for me from a cheap mixed metal one bought on eBay. You can buy the same cheap one from Amazon. The gold plating discolored and bubbled rather quickly so I ask him to make a replica and I replaced all the pearls with real ones.
