What’s your setup like and how big of a tank?
If your frog is new to the environment it may take some time for it to get comfortable and won’t want to eat for some time. If this is the case then some slight force feeding is necessary. One thing that has worked for all 3 of my white tree frogs is using a face mask silicone brush to do the force feeding.
Something like this works, LORMAY 2 Pcs Premium Quality Silicone Face Mask Brush Applicator for Facials, Mud, Clay Mask, DIY, Modeling Mask, Body Lotion, and BB CC Cream https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V396KQT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_RJ8Z0W5B650E8Y2ABTT0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
To feed them, hold your frog in your hand (gently) with their head freed around your thumb and pointer finger. Then, place the cricket/roach/etc on the edge of the silicone brush and gently pry the silicone wedge in to the mouth of the frog and as soon as they open their mouth, push in the cricket. They will instantly munch it down and then you’ll have a fed frog :)
For this procedure, use gloves or wash your hands really well and make sure there isn’t any soap left over . Then do a final rinse before holding your frog for moisture purposes.
The water dish is a plant pot that I got from the local garden centre, the filter is this one Amazon Link I cut the pipe down a little so it fit in the tub and its doing wonders!
I think this is the exact stuff I’d recommend letting it dry in a well ventilated area for a day or two because it does output some gas that can be dangerous for any animals while it cures
If you want there’s even bug keepers where the crickets climb into the tubes and you just pull out a tube and pat it down to knock them in the tank. Here’s one: https://www.amazon.com/Lees-20080-Kricket-Keeper-Small/dp/B001OVBDDM
I’m not sure about the 2.0 for coiled, for most any animal that needs UVB I see people lean towards tube over coil. They used to be a bigger issue in the past with the way they were designed, which has been corrected. It’s my understanding that the output is different and that the tube provides better, more even UVB coverage with less risk of burn. I’ve not measured it myself though. Seems like one of those things where some people use coils without issue but most people just opt for the tube option. It’s a discussion people have in many different animal care communities haha

It'll fit our existing light stand, and I'm planning on acquiring a timer for the outlet and getting that more consistent lighting schedule. :)
There are cricket cages like this style (Amazon link) where the crickets crawl up into the tubes to hide. You just take slide the tube out and shake the crickets into the terrarium. You don’t have to touch them. You should be able to find one at your local pet store.
The poop is dry. It feels like you’re holding a piece of clumped dirt and there’s really no smell. You can use long tweezers, which you can also find at your local pet store.
Hi everyone, I made a free Android game and decided to modelize frogs in 3D for the main characters.
I tried to recreate an Hyla Arborea, a Goliath, a Scaphiophryne Gottlebei, a Long-nosed horned frog, a Darwin's frog and some others (even a robot frog!). I thought maybe it might interest you.
Magnetic Frog is available on the Play Store!
It's an infinite scroller where you have to manipulate your magnet to attract bubbles while pushing the mines.
I did everything myself except music.
Do not hesitate to give me your feedback :)
PS : if some are interested, I can give you free in-game bonuses
Frog for sure need to sit on land from day to day to rest, often in pools they'll get trapped and drown when they can't swim anymore :(
If this is a natural pond and you don't see dead frogs in it there's likely some way they're getting in and out of it to be on land, but to be safe you can always add something! A floating island is good, but a frog log is even better. This will give them an easy way out of there were they to fall in and get stuck.
You're probably right. I washed it and have been letting it sit out for a few weeks and it doesn't smell nearly as strong as it did when I took it out of the packaging. The other suction cups I have in there smell similar, but not as strong, so it's probably just what the kind of material they use smells like, rather than something that the frogs will absorb.
My frogs are still pretty small (only 1.5 inches) so I've been getting some decorations for when they get bigger, the frog bowl being one of them. I'm getting a coconut house as well, but I'm planning on putting that in when I get it, so they have more shady places to sleep. :)
Oh, and congrats on the user name. That's quite a feat. :D
Hey we got the frog cup thing on a Japanese website but since then they have em up on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Kxtffeect-styling-Silicone-Portable-Bathroom/dp/B077VG4HJ6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=22VRT5ZUAYJPY&keywords=frog+soap+holder&qid=1667954482&sprefix=frog+soap%2Caps%2C184&sr=8-3
Not sure about chemicals, but a "Frog Log" (https://www.amazon.com/Frog-Log-Critter-Saving-Escape/dp/B00GZPFJRS) is great to help them get out on their own. That, plus a netting/fence to keep them out of the pool area.
yeah absolutely, this is the one i purchased https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086XKD7WY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details
We ordered a tadpole kit via amazon for my little sister who loves frogs thought it would be fun for her to watch it grow up. We started with two, one died within a week of being in the tank and we're not really sure what kind of frog it'll be some are saying leopard frog others are saying bullfrog.
Anyways just a few days ago we noticed it's eyes appeared to be filling up with blood, we've never taken care of a frog before but I did a lot of reading before hand just to know what to expect. But right now I have no idea what to do and I'm worried about it.
Yeah. I remember seeing this as a soap dish a few years back. It's really taken off as a frog bed, considering it's even sold on Amazon as a tank decoration. :)
I'm getting two WTFs in the fall, and I'm definitely going to be getting them one of these. It's really cute, but it would be creepy if everything slept in a bed that looked like its own head. :D
So something similar to this?
Do you know what could have caused this? I've had him for 7 years and haven't seen him get injured before.
Tortoise Heat Lamp Basking Lamp,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08XXXK262?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This came with two 50w bulbs that have been fine for the pacmans for ~6 months now. I use the same bulbs for the taller tanks but with exo terra domes and the heat difference using the domes was about 6 degrees (Celsius)
This stuff is pointless. If you're concerned about calcium for your bugs, just dust their veg with the same calcium supplement you give your froggo. If you're concerned with hydration, these are perfect for bugs and won't drown them.
A dilute dish detergent is fine. You can also use 1/4 tsp of this in a gallon of water (I use this stuff for my dishes at home, a box lasts like 2 years). As long as you rinse everything well, you can sterilize whatever. Just be a lot more careful with things that are absorbent.
That's my main light fixture, I also run an Amazon led aquarium led light during the day for the plants.
At night I switch the main fixture to one 25w red halogen and run another 25w zilla single fixture near the back of the tank. Because of the size of the enclosure there is a decent temp and humidity differential so the frogs can find their own happy places.
That lighting and my misting schedule works well on the enclosure (in my house) with a full screen top and I don't need to close off anything to keep humidity and temp in check. My lecca base is wet, but no standing water, and my cuc is doing well as I can notice the dirt layer going down so I'm adding more leaf content lately.
a compact one, here’s the link
It comes with a fixture if you order the ProT5 kit like this listing!
That price is insane though. You could definitely find it for cheaper if you ordered somewhere other than Amazon.
i’d bump up the temperature a bit!! and do you have a humidity gauge? if not they’re a good investment!! their humidity should be above 60% at all times!! it also may not hurt to give him a honey bath, here’s a link to what type of honey I use: Meluka Australia Premium Raw... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L4G2PBJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Mix that in with some warm(not hot) water and let him soak for about 30-40 minutes :) hope it helps any! It worked well with my pacman frog when he suddenly stopped eating food
Adjustable Reptile Lamp Stand Floor Light Holder, Double Hook Hanging Heat Lamp for Reptile Amphibian Terrariums Tortoise and Other Cold Blooded Animal Enclosures Glass Terrarium Heating Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095BM316W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_6NBADEHB6V3EZCY7ZS92?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 it’s a little spendy, but it is absolutely splendid and i’ve had no issues whatsoever with setup or hanging!! and then i use this double lamp: https://www.chewy.com/repti-zoo-dual-dome-reptile-heat/dp/249976
I currently have an unbranded coconut fiber brick in my wtf enclosure because it's what they had at my local reptile store, but I'm planning to switch exclusively to eco earth next time I change substrate for consistency of brand, and since it's the brand that seems to be most suggested for wtfs. Eco Earth comes in brick form (put in a bucket and just add water) or already loose in a bag. You should be able to find coconut fiber wherever you go for their food (reptile shop, etc.) or Amazon would have it if not. Here are some links. Eco Earth bag: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUFSX7G/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glc_i_EQNCNHBB9QZ1R03MB8AB Eco Earth brick: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0936RB1S7/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glc_i_B830X4K2K34KF7MJ6XT2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use the one for reptiles and amphibians, it’s mostly for turtles, but it works great! It’s called reptisafe
they are actually soap holders from amazon that have suction cups on the back!! they are safe for frogs tho and rly cheap:) u can buy em here
Thank you for all the info! Everything seems fine, but I would keep an eye on the white part of the legs and underbelly. If it becomes almost Scarlet and stays like that, it might be red leg, but red leg is a pretty obvious condition, so I wouldn’t worry about missing it if you check every so often. I have a few more questions, sorry! Other than branches does your frog have any place to sit and rest on, like a basking spot? And what’s the temperature in the enclosure? If there isn’t a spot he can sit and sleep in the air, I would really recommend one! That might be the reason he’s been chilling on the ground. I would recommend something like this I have two in my WTFs enclosure and I fill the food dish with water so they can soak somewhere without having to go to the ground. Best of luck, if you have any other questions just let me know!
Do you have the humidifier just running in the room? If so you can easily DIY a fogger with some tubing to create the same unit as a reptile branded fogger. I recently bought this fogger for my two tanks (it comes with a one and two hose port and you can fill it from the top) and it's been working great. I have it on a wifi timer so it goes on at at certain times for short durations. I've hear poor reviews from the ReptiFogger (breaking easily, etc) so I would probably spend your money on a better and bigger unit for the same price/cheaper
This is very similar to the heat mat I have: Reptile Heating Pad, Atian Reptile Tank Warmer with Temperature Controller Pet Heat Mats 5W https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VY1R9SW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_9Z7BSX8WW3XHGKBGKDHA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hey OP, hope you got some help by now but I’ll give my 2 cents anyway.
Frog pellets are good but it is always beneficial to vary their diet. I like to cycle between two types of pellets (One type floats, one sinks so he can forage for them), dried grasshoppers, and earthworms. Blood worms are fine, but moderate them. I never fed my frog bloodworms more than like once a month.
There’s been controversy about filters in ACF tanks for years. I didn’t have one for ages but decided a while back to put one in, and it helps a TON with waste since these guys are not sparing with how much they produce. This is the filter that I use. Super quiet, it’s a little chunky and ugly but it does its job well. My frog was startled about initially but calmed down within like ten minutes and hasn’t exhibited signs of stress since.
About the heater - what temp do you keep your house at? These guys don’t really need heaters unless the house is like your friend’s.
10 gallon tank is definitely better than 5, but ACFs are way happier in 20+ gallon longs where they have lots of room to zoom around. I’d recommend an upgrade as soon as you can honestly, at 7-8 years old he isn’t done growing. My upgrade to 10 to 20 was the best thing I ever did for my frog.
Don’t worry about him getting stuck behind plants, they’re slippery fellows and won’t get stuck in something like that. The more cover the better.
Hope this stuff helps - good luck with your new friend!
Oh cool it works out then because I bought 2 of the bulbs (on accident 💀 didn’t realize one was already in my cart when I added a second and was buying a bunch of stuff so I didn’t notice it was 2 at checkout) idk if it makes a difference but this is the lamp I’m using not for any specific reason this was one of the few items I got in store and their lamp section was trash this was the only option that didn’t suck to much
This is the exact one that’s in his tank (although it was on a much better sale when I got it for $13) lightI had wanted to do a blue light at first but certain lightings in my room give me headaches and that’s one of them I didn’t want to risk it (I love my frog dearly but I don’t love migraines) what bulb do you recommend personally?? Brand wise
I use these and place them all over the tank.

I’ve heard of frogs that do this because their humidity or temperature is off. What is yours at?
Also decor wise, you could try buying some bamboo, vertical bars that would allow more climbing space. That or other items that would increase hiding and sitting areas. A large portion of amphibian users buy frog buckets or other spaces that attach to the glass.
Hamster tubes sound quite confining and some are a bit sharp/rough for frogs.
Edit: first sentence, second paragraph. Autocorrect made it unreadable. Sorry!

Oh gosh, I hope your little dude can grin and bear it long enough lol. I'll definitely try to see about a separate feeding enclosure of some sort! And I'd love to hear the terrarium size you use!
I actually just opened up a bunch of pet supplies I ordered for the guy, though the water dish I ordered takes up nearly all the tank floor! Whoops. It might be okay to use for an adult I think (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002AR4BG/ twas this one, for reference, though looking back I now see there's an extra small version... would that work?) I see and sometimes hear about people using small lids and things that they've thoroughly cleaned as water dishes, so I'm hoping that would be a good alternative for now.
I also have both Calcium (with D3) and Reptivite on hand, and am wondering whether I use both or one per feeding (like I alternate, one feeding is calcium and the other is vitamins?)

Make sure you give your crickets an adequate water source. Flukers has cricket quenchers that help to keep your crickets nice and full of water. After getting these, my cricket death rate declined greatly.
Ceramic heat lamps are fine. Red bulbs are not. Do not use colored lights, it irritates their eyes and screws with their sleep cycles. The burying is fine, that's what they do. They will close their eyes to sleep. If he never opens his eyes, it's either because his eyes are irritated or he's sleep deprived because of the red light. Keep the substrate moist by spraying it directly, and try to keep some amount of humidity in the tank by covering bits of the lid that aren't directly under the lamps.
He looks underweight. Also, definitely get that thing on his lip checked out asap. Had a scare with one of my frogs when I initially got them as he ended up having some form of bacteria eating his skin around his left hind leg that looks exactly as that clear pink flesh on his lip and I felt so bad for him. Was also skinny. This is going to spread pretty quickly if you leave it, especially since you just got him and he’s probably stressed out. Exotic vet will likely issue oral medication, and in my case, an injection every three days. Will cost you anywhere from $100-200 for medication and consultation.
If you go the route of just oral medication, it’s tricky to get the frog to open it’s mouth. What I did was use a clay sculpting brush that has a silicon tip wedge. Use this to open its mouth and give the oral medication without hurting him.
Here’s what I’m talking about.
how do these look?

That's good! I'd highly recommend grabbing yourself a more reliable digital thermometer. I have this one, and even being cheap I've found it to be reliable! I have a second thermometer in my tank hooked up to the thermostat for my heating pads and the temperatures are always very close, so I trust it.

my tank is one of the glass front-opening small terrariums, so i think its 18" tall and 12 by 12 width. (so that sounds like the same size at yours?) i'm using the dome light fixures and a ceremic heat bulb (to keep temps up at night) along with a day light. i did end up buying a mercury vapor bulb but am only using it every other day right now, but i'm happy to switch if youve had good experience with the other light that you are talking about.
i also agree that it seems that tree frogs would benefit from some sort of small amount of UV lighting. but at the same time i'm not so full of myself that i think i'm right about everything just because it "makes sense" to me. let me know if you find any legit journal articles, but i'm going to provide the uv at least every other day and just see if i notice any differences in his overall behavior (perching locations, appetite, etc) thanks!
do you use the Exo Terra 35W Metal Halide Lamp? i found this on amazon at:
i am just SO SO paranoid about causing irreversible eye problems with him

Thanks for replying, I am not so sure how or where to put another filter to slow the flow down. https://www.amazon.com/Whisper-Tank-Filter-10i-BioScrubber/dp/B0002DHYF4 that is my filter, I have it about a half inch above surface level and it makes a tiny waterfall. Should I raise it or lower it? I really don't want to stress or hurt the frogs, especially the little guy. Big dude doesn't seem to care much he just avoids those pockets of water current
Sounds about right. I would recommend to stay away from super worms. Pacs eat alive. I have heard from others that super worms (as well as live mice) can bite the frogs eyes or face. I have even read online about tree frog deaths associated with meal worms chewing through the stomach. Check out https://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Pacman-Frog-10-Ounce/dp/B00DQFAEI4. I fed this exclusively to a female frog from purchase. She is now 8 inches and over 16 onces at 15 months old. Her color is arguably the best of my ornates as well. But that could be luck.
I guess you could make your own but its not too expensive and the convenience of getting a big jar is massive compared to other feeding methods. You'd still want to occasionally supplement it with canned insects and raw meat and fish.
They don't move much when they're not eating, though they're really fast and fun to feed. If you get a baby you could keep it in something like this or another larger breeder box for about a year but they can grow to truly immense sizes for frogs, think small cat tbh, so they need a large tank. I wanna say 60x45x30 at a bare minimum but you also want to make sure the bottom of the tank can hold at least their height in substrate because they like to burrow.
They're also pretty filthy pets, you either need a good aquarium filter or daily water changes because they poo in the water then sit there soaking it in. I say that because filters/pumps tend to have a minimun height of about 5-10cm so you need to consider depth if you want a water section. In my experience a filter is probably pointless because they're so dirty it just means partial water changes every few days instead of daily even with the filter running.
Some people will scream bloody murder about touching pet frogs but if you're very careful and use safe gloves, cleaning materials you can transfer them to a smaller temporary water tank every day or two for a bath/drink/toilet and just have land, saves space and may be easier if your frog learns to trust you enough not to bite because the only time they're in contact with water it's fresh and clean.
