I am from Germany, we have many of these wooden wheels. (In Germany most pet owner try to avoid plastic things in their cage). https://www.amazon.de/dp/B008H2VG0G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_H07LCb3Y56SEV My wheel is very big, but I know that you can buy even a bigger wheel here :o Maybe some online shops in your country have these wheels too :)
I’m in the uk, got it off Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/ROSEWOOD-Boredom-Breaker-Animal-Activity/dp/B002NKD0BG/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref=yo_pop_d_pd_title)
But I think you can get them a little cheaper at Wilko in the UK too.
Problem with gerbils is the rate they get through toys lol, I used to have a hamster and it really wasn’t that interested in these kind of things. Gerbils on the other hand are curious about anything I put in the cage.... and when I say curious I mean curious to see if it’s chewable 😂. As I’ve said before, it’s a good job they are cute! lol
This water bottle
small so it’s regularly and easily cleaned, a flat back so you can use stick-on velcro or command picture-hanging strips to attach it to the cage, and the metal holder means 0 gerbils will chomp it.
No leaking issues for mine, but even the little ones can easily use it because it’s not spring loaded or anything
Overall, I’d say 99% of “toys” for hamsters and gerbils are unecessary. get something wood for them to chew on, either a bendy bridge or a house of some kind, because they will fly through cardboard, and I always like them to have a chewable thing in their tank.
Avoid cardboard for frozen food items, I’ve read it has a coating that can be dangerous, but I give them any kind of other cardboard, especially cardboard tubes!
For special treats I give mine slices of loofah (I just buy whole natural loofahs and slice them myself), willow balls, put a few treats in a paper bag and crumple it up, or make them little popsicle stick houses
Hay can be another fun chewing thing, and you can stuff it into tubes or a paper bag to make a toy.
I’ve found the best sand baths at craft stores. They have jars and bowls with small openings (like tiny fishbowl shaped) that are still small enough for gerbils to hop in, but they can’t easily dig out the sand.
Mine also like some “digging jars” just regular jars laid on their side. They use them as bathrooms, bedrooms, or storage for their seed stash
Hey, this is such a common problem in gerbil owning. Your ideal method of organization would be a topper or a platform, but you can use bendy bridges to section off the wheel from the bedding. Amazon sells this one, and I can confirm it is large enough to section off my 40 gallon before I got my topper.
Snacks and putting them on the floor inside a little playpen area and you sitting in there with them and letting them come check you out and crawl on you, bath tub can also work. I use this playpen. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTG94TH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use this wheel they love it. I like it a lot because the height it adjustable. They had previously shown no interest in wheels but it turns out they just wanted something big to run in. Some gerbils like having a cover on their wheels like this
How do you get them to drink from the bowl! I have 2 "normal" water bottles, 1 like the one pictured, and one that hangs straight down. I also have this bowl - and they NEVER use it.
Awesome cage size!
Mine do the water bottle thing occasionally. I have found it helps to put the bottle over a jar (tipped on its side), so they have a little non-bedding digging area under their bottle, but probably a few times a year we still have a water bottle drain into the bedding 🙄
Also if you are interested in trying a plastic wheel these are what I use:
I twist tie or zip tie them to their cage lid by the stand
I’ve had one gerbil give it a chew (of 7 I’ve owned), but thankfully he quit after the first time I noticed tooth marks on it
40 gallon breeder is a great size! I would recommend splurging and getting a lid that opens longways though. With a cage that size it can be hard to prevent one from escaping when you have the lid off.

Like this: Hinged tank screen
If you more the platform to the far left side, they will have the whole length of the tank and underneath the platform to dig and burrow. I have my wheel and water bottle taped onto my wall high up as it just gets buried on the ground. I also scatter feed them, so I actually bury the food for them lol. Its up to you really, play around with the design and see what works best.
The ceramic tunnels is listed as a hide, but I got it on Amazon in medium size :
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01E3WWVR0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TBiaGbT7N6ZRD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Spent ages looking for a little hat like that. Turns out amazon do them after all.
This is my ultimate favorite wheel. https://www.amazon.com/Exercise-Hamster-Running-Chinchillas-Hedgehogs/dp/B07WNGBGKX/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=wooden%2Bhamster%2Bwheel&qid=1601756509&sr=8-7&th=1&psc=1 It is a little bit expensive but I think it’s totally worth the money! My gerbils chew EVERYTHING! This wheel wasn’t plastic so they didn’t chew it. Mine was a little wobbly though so you may have to watch out for that. Other than that, I love this wheel.
I am currently using Hamster Bathing Sand,Pet Sand for Tiny Friends Farm Chinchilla(2LB) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077VLCBV2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_MjsLCb8WG49E2 Make sure to use hamster sand A because B is dust. I wash rinc it and bake it in the oven (to sterilize) to keep cost down. I actually plan on going to home Depot and getting children's sandbox sand and baking it in the oven to sterilize it. I heard it is a much cheaper option and I wouldn't have to wash pee sand. (since my gerbils think the sand bath is a litter box).
Hey, thanks for the suggestion for a wooden wheel, I hadn't even considered the possibility of such wheels existing, yet Amazon seems to have a perfect one, with video proof by a gerbil owner showing it works fine. Thanks for the idea, I'm ordering this bad boy.
I would suggest switching to a wood wheel. Some gerbils would chew plastic (and it's not good for them). Something like this:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0B3J83X94/ref=twister\_B0B3J7WKSQ?\_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have owned pawhut cages for Gerbils before and strongly discorage them, my Gerbils had chewed out of them in about 3 months.
I recommend giving clearseal a call and getting a glass tank built to your spec. I had a 135x50x50 tank with a lip to place a lid on made for a very reasonable price. I then home made a lid out of some wood and rabbit wire.
In total cost me about £140, and I dont have to worry about Gerbils destroying it.
Otherwise this one on amazon is decent (if you can get it):
amazon link
Definitely recommend mounting a bottle on the sides. bottles with flat backs like this can easily be mounted with command picture hanging strips or velcro
I’ve also found it helps to have something under the bottle. I use a little jar on it’s side which they can dig at the inside of rather than burying the bottle, but platforms also work pretty well.
The toys will show up when you clean their cage . . . or at least the parts they haven’t chewed up will! I think they sometimes like to chew underground in their burrows
Glad to hear you are putting the welfare of the gerbils first, I totally agree with you. Gerbils may be fun for children to watch, but they are not a play thing or an object, they are living beings. Thank god they have someone like you to stick up for what is right for them. The caterpillar idea sounds brilliant. Ive seen these lovely kits you can get where you keep them from caterpillars and release them when they turn into butterflies - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Insect-Lore-Giant-Butterfly-Garden/dp/B00LWVS4PE/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=269STC7FTTOLJ&keywords=butterfly+kit&qid=1668545221&sprefix=butterfly+kit%2Caps%2C81&sr=8-4
Niteangel wheels. They’re replaceable cork on the inside and I believe clear acrylic on the outside. Super quiet and also safe for them to chew on (at least I hope LOL).
https://www.amazon.com/Niteangel-Super-Silent-Hamster-Exercise-Wheels/dp/B08FC97R1F
Any metal mesh lid should work as far as gerbil proofing goes.
I really like the ones that fold on the long side (if you can find one that fits your cage) — this style because you can easily open them while still keeping anything you want to hang on the lid in the cage
It’s early here, and when I first saw that picture I just though it was one VERY fat gerbil. I was so relieved when I saw the 2nd gerbil’s face!
I have a flat cage, but my water bottle recommendation is to get a flat-backed one Like this, and also to use the command picture hanging strips instead of the regular Ones.
I built my divided 75 gallon tank by having a local hardware store cut a sheet of glass for me. I spent a couple hours filing down all the edges so they couldn’t get cut on it, then glued it in with silicone. Especially with a cat, going horizontal might be a good solution for you
Wyze Cam v3 with Color Night... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R59YH7W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
this one! it’s super convenient, i just pay like $1.99 a month for a subscription for it to record motion clips
Oh apologies. I had thought the name of the brand was "Silent Spinner". It's "Silent Runner" by Exotic Nutrition on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Exotic-Nutrition-Silent-Runner-Regular/dp/B01AFI3ERM?ref\_=ast\_sto\_dp
Hi. I think any scale that weighs in tenths of a gram (and not just grams) would work great. I bought the Etekcity .1gram scale because I wanted something that measured tenths of a gram. My last scale only measured in full grams. The Etekcity scale has a sort of bowl that attaches to the top and it is only $18.99 and it has a 10% off coupon on Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08BPB9T1N?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
That said, you should get whatever scale you want, really. It's a great way to see if your gerbil has the start of an upper respiratory (just before the nose gets red) or if they have trouble with their teeth. Good luck!
checkout Higgins Sunburst, its a hamster/gerbil daily blend, i was skeptical at first because of packing but nevertheless i purchased and its seems to be the cleanest commercial food i’ve seen. also the nutritional facts seems to checkout. very minimal food coloring and not many pellets at all. here’s the link if you’re interested sunburst
mod podge or plastikote are both great!

Good one…but figured out how to climb it pretty quick and chewed a couple holes we’ve had to patch. Bottom has held up well:) They love it, but can’t leave them for a second lol!
I just looked up what that is. Apparently banixx makes this product as a cream instead of spray and it has that ingredient. right here
I am sorry. I meant banixx. This is what I got for my gerbils: Banixx Pet Care+ Wound Care & Anti-Itch Spray for Dogs, Cats & Small Pets
If you get a metal top that just sits on there, add some weight to it.
Recommend kaytee silent spinner for a wheel. I usually attach them to a heavy base to avoid wobble/bounce.
A platform or wood divider would work! I got a very large bendy bridge for my gerbils and laid it out sideways, but that was with a bigger tank so they wouldn't miss the space. A smaller bendy bridge might work as well, but this is what I used to separate their wheel/food/water from their digging space https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086ZDY184?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
If you still don't know what wheel to use, I'd easily recommend the Niteangel 10 inch wheel. It's so quiet (I used to have a very loud wheel that would keep me up), is very sturdy, and the 10 inches leaves enough room for them to run comfortably and not even need to bend their tails or back. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FC85414?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
It is a Niteangel wheel! Super quiet and low profile!

You have a lot of vertical room to play with there, you can try filling it to the top (leaving room to stand up, food bowl, etc).
We got a folding play pen for exercise playtime. You could put a wheel in that and let them get wheel time that way.
I purchased the niteangel wheel. I love it! It's quiet and easy to clean. We've always used this stuff. Still looks to be easily available and never had any issues with any of our boys and girls.
I usually buy Vitakraft - Sandy chinchilla sand (remember, sand, NOT DUST, is a different thing) I put it in a candy bowl (like this one Excelsa Up & Down Tarro... https://www.amazon.es/dp/B01LEUP5G8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) They hop in, use it to bath and they don't throw out much sand. When they use it a few times or a day, they use it as toilet.

My girls absolutely demolished not one but TWO wooden wheels. I have the same wheel you have now but ordered a silent runner. It's supposed to be the Cadillac of wheels. It's not due to arrive until next month but I'll let you know how it goes.

This is the one I use 🙂
Quick warning though: the plastic panels are chew-able so make sure you use the stoppers that come with it for the corners to restrict the gerbils' access to chew. And what I find also helps is making sure they have a tunnel/ramp back to their enclosure - if I put mine in the playpen without this they go mad trying to chew their way out and back home, but if I give them the option to come and go with a tunnel they don't bother trying to chew the edges, they just come out for a little run and chew the cardboard boxes a bit, then toddle off home ☺️
We used humane traps from Amazon, the long kind because with the smaller ones, the mouse tails (and that of any escaped gerbils) can get snapped off. We trapped and “re-homed” mice to a park many blocks away, and we soaked steel wool in a natural, safe repellent that’s apple cider based, and plugged up every hole around pipes etc. That seemed to do the trick. The mice we had didn’t seem to be particularly good climbers, and I don’t think any mice would have been able to scale the glass tank walls when there’s nothing to grab ahold of.
Humane Mouse Traps 2 Pack - ROCKBIRDS High-Efficiency Mouse traps indoor, Catch & Release Reusable for Indoor and Outdoor Use, Safe for Kids and Pets(9.94inch)
Our biggest problem was forcing ourselves to get rid of the mice, they were so freakin’ cute! But we were scared of them making the gerbs (and us) sick and they probably would not have been happy to move into a cage.
Here is the one I use, I think its the medium. Super quiet and looks nice.
I think just adding bedding to your setup will do.
My gerbil is obsessed with her wheel too. The other one just digs all day. Doesn't seem too crazy
You can get 2.5"-4" diameter, 3-6ft long duct hoses at hardware stores or Amazon and they can't resist climbing into them. Great for luring and transporting gerbils to a playpen, or just bring them into an empty bathtub with you! A cardboard box will work fine to lure and transport them too.
Here's what I bought: Wire reinforced duct hose https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08XZ6PK1Y

I have an 11” for my boys. I personally think 8 in is still too small and it’s the only size my gerbils have ever actually shown interest in using. This is the wheel I have: Suncoast Sugar Gliders Wodent Wheel Senior & Tail Shield - 11" Running Wheel for Small Pets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRWR7MQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_W2SXCAVNER6BQXZX5AJZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That you! I'm really trying. The owner of the etsy shop is shipping my order out either today or tomorrow so hopefully it will be here within the next week or so. Other than that, I purchased the Oxbow skin & coat vitamins from chewy so hopefully once those arrive, on top of increased stimulation, both my girls will be getting some supplementation to encourage fur growth.... the challenge will just be to get them to eat it. I may have to cover it in ground-up Gerber baby puffs lol they're such picky eaters.
Last night I ransacked the storage room for any and all cardboard and have been giving them "cardboard playgrounds" until the topper arrives and I can finally give them their wheel + more bedding! I also removed their sand bath, of course. And then after my next few paychecks I will schedule a trip to the vet. Hopefully all of this will result in happy, healthy, non-balding gerbils! 🤞
I know lots of people have this one, I have one similar to this one - basically something that has a neck smaller than the base.
It won't stop them kicking it out completely if they're really going for it, but I found it reduced the spread to near nothing unless one of them threw a teenage hissy fit.
Seeing this gave me the idea to look up empty toilet paper rolls on Amazon, and they have lots of options! My gerbils thank you for both ideas!

Hi, it's recommended by the UFAW (global animal welfare research body) that wheels be around 30cm in diameter for adult gerbils, so perhaps look into getting a bigger one when you get your wood wheel, this is the one I use 🙂
I have two of these. They're sturdy and while my gerbils do like chewing on them, they're still standing. They're also quiet and have a good size.
I agree with the others about getting a wooden wheel, This is the one I use and I've had no problems with it so far 🙂 just make sure that the wheel you get is large enough, it should be around 30cm as recommended by the UFAW (global animal welfare research body) to stop their backs bending while they run and to allow rooms for their tails 🙂
I heard the cork on those wheels comes off pretty easy.
I had the same problem with mine chewing plastic wheels to bits. Then, I bought this one and haven’t had an issue since. I put pieces of electric tape at even intervals along the inside so they have grip and they love it! It’s also super silent.

Ah, I guess it probably depends on where you get the play sand and reptile sand! The play sand I tried was just a little coarser than granulated sugar. The reptile sand and hermit crab sand I tried was a little finer than that. So many types of sand to choose from lol.
Aquarium sand, this stuff in particular, is definitely my sand of choice though. It’s coarser than baking soda, but noticeably finer than sugar. Weird comparison but if you’ve ever made Jell-O, it’s just slightly coarser than the Jell-O powder before you add water. It’s definitely not dust, but it’s the smoothest, finest sand I’ve found so far that doesn’t make dust clouds when kicked up. It’s a little more expensive than play sand though, but my gerbils are spoiled af anyway so I don’t mind lmao.

I got the 10 in wheel. It's not cheap, but it's sooooo quiet, easy to clean, and adjustable in height. It's also big enough that they run in it together which is so fun to watch
How much bedding do you have? They might not be able to burrow easily if there's too little
Niteangel brand makes these in 3 sizes: https://www.amazon.com/Niteangel-Silent-Hamster-Exercise-Wheel/dp/B08GRZ4YPX
And these also come in clear and ribbed for pleasure: https://www.amazon.com/Niteangel-Super-Silent-Hamster-Exercise-Wheels/dp/B08FC86WCH
Perfect for pooping on!
I’d suggest using a bridge like this to create a divide around half way through, using one half with deeper bedding as a burrowing area, and the other half with hamster height bedding to stop things like sand baths and water bottles getting buried
Gerbils can jump 15 inches, but with all but one girl (our champion escape artist), it was high enough that they only tried once or twice their whole lives.
I do only use it when I’m in the same room to supervise, so if I notice any hopping to size up the jump size I can distract them or put them back in their tank
This one worked very well for me. My girls are crazy chewers but they can’t chew this material, I think it’s acrylic. Wouldn’t recommend the wooden ones too much because if they pee on it, the wood is going to absorb it
You could buy a water bottle and then use this to fix it to the tank.
I use this wooden wheel https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trixie-Wooden-Wheel-22-cm/dp/B008H2VA6G?pd_rd_w=uRees&pf_rd_p=de9ab862-dfbf-4d13-85b9-ada27ad8b1d8&pf_rd_r=PKYN9KHDNQBF4MZFQV8E&pd_rd_r=5bc9af01-266f-4f3a-baf6-a9560b4bc3f3&pd_rd_wg=Xg2nT&pd_rd_i=B008H2VA6G&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_m_rp_9_sc I took it out as they pooped on it but it would be safe to keep in the cage if they don't poop on/bury it :)
Oh no ! I suppose if they chew it, it's best to remove it. I don't do anything, they just don't nibble it ! They are over a year now and don't need to chew as heavily as before, so it might be that haha.
I used to tape my wheel on the wall of my tank, so they couldn't sit and nibble it, so you could try elevating or hanging the wheel and see if that helps. Unless they're chewing it from the inside ?
Thank you ! I got that piece on Amazon, large size, link is here .

My tank is only 11” wide, it worked out perfectly that I could bend it to standup study on its own.
I bought a metal one that holds it upright, I’ll send a link. They never knock it over:
I use This playpen
It’s not really high enough to leave them unsupervised, but I’ve only had one determined escape artist who I couldn’t safely use that with for cage cleaning
With small pet ones, make sure they are tall enough and have narrow enough bars when you’re picking one.
You could also use a large “critter keeper” type cage. Those are also handy carriers for transporting gerbils if they ever need to go to the vet or something
This is the bottle I use. It has a flat back and comes with sticky Velcro. I find the command picture hanging strips to be way better and easier than velcro though.
I think any-flat backed bottle would work with the picture hanging strips
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002APZPS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Its not the best option and you cant exactly leave them unattended but this is what I've used. I used to put them in there with each other separated for a few hours at a time while monitoring (they can find a way to the other side if small and determined enough) to get used to each others smell and whatnot. I have had it work at successfully introducing gerbs in the past but it did not for the last introduction I tried, granted they were female. It also doubles as a great temp cage for primary cage cleaning.
Again, its not the best but from what I've found they don't make any products for this specific purpose unfortunately :/
Tropical fiddlesticks: Amazon link
I think those are probly the large size, but they also come in medium
Once they get bedding in the spout it’ll drain out.
I really like This one as a general recommendation though, but they can still get bedding up close to it, and then the bedding just pulls the water out.
The best I’ve done for water bottle burying is get it up over a platform of some kind. Bendy bridge, actual platform, jar tipped on its side.
Just remember that every animal is their own individual.
There are these corner potties made specifically for that, or you can use a Rubbermaid... they make all kinds of storage containers of sizes and shapes, easy enough to find one that the wheel will fit into. To me $20 (I think the last one was $13) is worth it to make it super easy to clean a cage. Use corn/oat cat litter or sand if you have to , NOT clay. Usually rodents are pretty clean with keeping their business away from their den, usually. I had a hamster that would prevent RIGHT next to his nest.... it was irritating. So I used old boxes for his den, eaast enough to replace every couple days.
Be sure to provide plenty of chew things for them. Have your friends start saving toilet paper and paper towel rolls!! I would get wicker balls as a treat for my last girl (the solo one), she could turn an 8” ball to dust in about 10 min...
we sometimes let them run free in the bathroom with the door closed
we also have this we use as a playpen https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0002DHXEQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 its a really good size for gerbils !
I am a huge fan of aquariums, despite the weight,
A lid that hinges along the length of the tank makes them WAY better though, especially if you have a wannabe escape artist

I use this one but there are smaller and other sizes available.

Would it be possible to add something under the tube between the bind? Like a wood board or something so the slope isn’t so steep for your older gerb?
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07P9YVJTP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It's not available right now but I got it on Amazon, they still try to jump at the sides but no escapes yet!
Also I got a bunny sized one for more space so I can actually sit in it and hangout with them 💖
Looks like you found a solution but just in case, this is what I use in my 40 gallon. Not sure if this works with your top though.
Water bottle - I use command picture hanging strips - one large one or two small ones on the glass, and same on the back of their water bottle holder
Velcro with sticky backing also works
This is my favorite gerbil water bottle - large flat back is easy to hang, and the metal holder keeps them from chewing on it.
Water bottle
Aww, thank you very much ! I use Thrive Natural Loose Coconut Soil, I buy it at PetSmart. For sand, I use National Geographic Natural Desert Sand from PetSmart, or I use zoo med reptisand off Amazon ( Here )
I’m so glad she’s back in her cage and happy with her sister :)
I saw on another comment you asked for playpen suggestions - This is the one I use.
If they are really determined jumpers they can get out, but out of the gerbils I’ve known only 1 has ever done that more than once.
Also if you have a bathtub or bathroom, that’s often an easier room to gerbil-proof.
It is nice to just sit with them and let them scurry around on you during taming!
Good luck!
I got it from Amazon a while back, and removed the middle metal platform so I could add my own shelves and ladders etc. I have 2 of these as I keep one as an emergency tank just in case! I basically use none of the accessories except the actual tank cage itself 😆
Sorry! I didn't explain it well - I got these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01HPAF7NM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they came in a pack of two, so I just put a some soil and a cactus in the other one!
I use bulk paper and aspen bedding from Amazon. Here's the stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Small-Pet-Select-Paper-Bedding/dp/B075CRNBRP/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_3?keywords=small+pet+paper+and+aspen+bedding+combo&qid=1557155902&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-3-fkmrnull
I mix it 50/50 but put just the paper bedding in their normal nesting area. The paper stuff is very soft.
However, youll eventually want to put on some aluminium profiles on the inner wooden corners if they get interested in gnawing them. I paid about 8€ for mine iirc, then another 10€ for the silicone and pistol to attach them.
I use a cookie jar as I said. Here’s the link. https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Airtight-Medium-Cookie/dp/B006HCWRLK/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=cookie%2Bjars&qid=1602009839&sr=8-4&th=1&psc=1 It’s my personal favorite although I do think it’s a tad over priced. It’s worked well for my girls so far!
You need a tank or big bin! Gerbils need at least 6 inches of bedding to burrow in and lots of things to chew on like cardboard and wood. Hight is not useful. I would just get rid of this and find a big bin or at least a 20 gallon long tank or bigger would be even better! Just pleaseeeeeeee get rid of this! At least find a bin!
So nice! This looks very similar to a cage I am considering: Niteangel Bigger World - MDF Aspen Small Animal Cage https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088NT4VBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TKnzFb2R1N4K3 What size is yours and are you happy with it? Any issues with gerbils chewing the mdf cafe itself?
My wheel: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wooden-Exercise-Wheel-Large-hamsters/dp/B008H2VG0G
The only plastic I have in my cage is the tubes and it’s hard plastic so it’s much harder for the gerbils to chew on it :)
Mine did the exact same thing he was licking literally everything and loosing weight! and I also read he was thirsty, so I tried giving him water and he refused, I quickly realized he was not thirsty so I tried a salt lick. The salt lick saved my gerbils life! He licked it for about 30 mins and the next day he was barley licking anything anymore and started gaining weight! He has been healthy ever since! Please try a normal none flavored salt lick!
Here’s a link to a similar salt lick I used!
Oh really. I thought a 10 gallon tank with a topper which has two platforms kinda adds a gallon sorts. So that should be ok? I couldn't find any toppers for 20 gallon tanks so I didn't get one. the tank topper I have right now](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0027J381U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_MHVlFb8P8TBBT)
For the divider, wouldn't they fall off with the weight of the bedding?
