This depends on the hat. If you're talking a fitted baseball cap, they are generally wool with a cotton/poly sweatband. They tend not to shrink too much, and can sometimes be stretched effectively.
If you mean a true hat (brim all the way around), with a real leather sweatband, they tend to shrink over time, due to the moisture/sweat shrinking the leather, so it will get a little tighter. Unless you're obsessive about conditioning the leather to keep it supple, wipe sweat from it after every use, keeping it maxed-out with a hat stretcher, it will shrink.
So, for a leather sweatband hat, most hat sellers recommend that you go one size larger (1cm). You can always tighten the sweatband using sizing tape, so it's better to go slightly larger than smaller, since most hats can't be stretched more than a fraction of a size, effectively.
You can un-sew the thread holding the sweatband together which will give you some flexibility with a tight hat, but it's not much, so don't expect a dramatic full-size or larger expansion. That won't really happen with a felt gentleman's hat.
Of course, hand-made hats (such a quality felt hats from manufacturers like Stetson, Borsalino, Dobbs, etc.) will have variation, even within the same size, since humans aren't perfect. I have two size 59 hats where one was perfect out of the box, and the other was just ever so slightly tighter - same manufacturer, and even same model hat (just a different color). It's always best to try on in person, if you can. If not, be sure to buy from a quality hatter who will take returns and make sure you are satisfied with the purchase.
Cheers.
I just did this. Works OK. Not ideal, but the hat no longer goes over my ears. These are the ones I’m using - MOJOTORY Hat Size Reducer, 24 PCS... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BYPBH6L?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
oh, nice! That's totally what you described!
If you get it, and the brim turns out to be too floppy - you can try stiffening it with this:
https://smile.amazon.com/Bickmore-Kahl-Hat-Stiffener-Texture/dp/B003YD92JU
I've done this on cloth hats, and it works great: to flatten the brim -- hit the entire brim with a good amount of the stiffener, lay the hat flat on a table and let dry. When dry, iron the brim (hit it with some steam from the iron if you can). If it's still floppy, do it again.
I’ve looked at this one, but not bought it.
Sun hat with flap.
Cheap? "Solaris Men's Sun Hat with Neck Flap Wide Brim Fishing Safari Hiking Hat"
More expensive: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01641ENY2/
If you need to do this in an emegency, just put a bandana off the back.
I would suggest purchasing one of these and wash your caps in the dishwasher. Leave them in the frame until they are dry. I just use dish soap and a stiff bristle brush to spot clean, but I think you need something to really wash the entire hat.
Each will hold 1 Fedora or Cowboy or 4 ball caps/ newsboys. You lay beanies down across them. Holds 4 or 5.
A little pricey but I’ve been very happy with them. I used the stick’em and screwed into wall too.

I got you.
You're going to have to find a hat that fits with you're hair, so try someone other than Lids. Ask them what their biggest size is, then Google for something bigger. Then if you cut or change your hair, you got these sizers to make the hat smaller.

You sometimes see the rolled brim, and the feather, on Tyrolean Hunting Hats.
Here's an example from amazon.

You can get ones like these on Amazon. A lot better IMO. Or just type fedora stand in search on Amazon

Trilbies are for sale everywhere. I like the colors and overall size and shape on you, with one small caveat: the front of the crown is pinched in such as way as to mirror the shape of your chin and jaw. There is nothing wrong with that shape, but I believe that a differently-shaped crown would he more flattering. Something shaped more squared-off, or with a center dent, like this:
ha, maybe Elmer Fudd is more widely used than I thought!

Is it this style you're looking for? Sorry about the inelegant link:
I know, this is what I was suggesting instead https://www.amazon.com/Tape-Size-Reducer-Roll-25ft/dp/B00C6CCGRK
This stuff is easier to work with imo, if you cut too little you just throw it away and cut more. It's also small enough to tuck between the sweatband and the hat body so that nothing is coming over the sweatband and touching your head, that way it isn't wicking sweat up next to the body of the hat like the wider ones can do.
I have multiple hats. I rotate which one I wear usually daily but definitely daily in hot weather. I hang them on a hook or hat rack when not in use. In my case the hat rack presently consists of the four posts on my poster bed as it is convenient and space is low right now. I have a few hooks in my room for hats and/or coats as well. I spot clean any stain as soon as I notice one, and I use a hat cage and a mild detergent when one of my caps needs a more thorough cleaning. Oh and I never leave a hat I want to keep looking good in the window in the sunlight. Like on the dash of my truck, or in the rear window of my car. For my old beige fishing cap, no big deal, it had a long and good life before it became my fishing cap. But for any others leaving them in the sun will cause their color to prematurely fade.
Not saying this works. I have seen these but not tried them.

No worries!
I like these ball cap washer devices:

You can use them in the washing machine, or the dishwasher.
I can find you an olive green Braves hat, and i can find you a hat with horns on it, but i can't find you a green Braves hat with horns.
Looks like maybe a Panama Jack hat- the hat band looks like something they might do. Not an exact match, but similar . Doesn’t have the pinched crown, though.
I looked and didn't have much luck either. And apparently on Amazon you can't filter for hat size. I did find THIS, though I wouldn't try it on a nicer hat to start with. And I'd think the closer your starting size to what you want it to end up, the better. While it's not exactly the same style as Stetson, Tilley makes hats in sizes 8+.
No, sorry. I found this hat on Amazon, but I don't know if you need it brown or black. Nice hats are generally expensive, but if you need a cheap hat, I would recommend finding a women's floppy sun hat (has the round crown that you're looking for) at a clothing store or online and then you can probably cut the brim to the shape that you want and spray a bunch of Niagara/fabric stiffener on the brim and set it on a flat surface with some weights on it (I would research ways to stiffen a floppy brim before doing this).
I'm late to this party but just came across this thread.
I went to Amazon and searched for leather hat bands and came up with many choices. Here's a sample hat band.
It will be all about your taste and price range but hat bands can be had out there. I too have wool felt outback hat similar to the one in the picture and like it very much. I didn't get it from my grandfather but I've had it for nearly 20 years.
https://www.amazon.com/Beechfield-Suede-Peak-Panel-Cap/dp/B00IPY82U8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=faux+suede+five+panel+hat&qid=1568393526&sr=8-1 the style is a little different but in the ballpark? I looked up faux suede baseball cap
Depends. Is it just a little snug and you need a little bit of room? You put the hat on your knee and pull on the bill to stretch it a little bit.
Are you just trying to stretch it half a size up? You can use one of these. https://smile.amazon.com/FirstChoice-Hat-Stretcher-Size-Heavy/dp/B01MSJ5LON/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1497111654&sr=8-4&keywords=hat+jack
If you're trying to go up like a full size or two, you're kind of shit out of luck.
Well I guess I can't reddit... I tried to add more description in the original post but it didn't take. I'll try and sum up here... got this on amazon here. It arrived in a box within a sealed plastic bag so it appeared to be untampered with.
If this is something that can be fixed with a cleaning then I am glad to do that - but if it;s something that won't go away I want to return it ASAP.
Thoughts?
Best I can find they're Aussie Bush Hats. They're similar to boonie hats but boonies usually have soft/floppy brims whereas the ones pictured are obviously more stiff.
No one in their right mind would pay that much for a hat. I recently bought this off amazon. I'm in the U.S, if that matters
This is the closest I could find, but it seems they're all sold out. From what I could discover it was apparently also for sale on the Wu Tang website, but has since been removed. Several other older webpages also had links to various different sites that at one point sold it, but they're all dead ends currently. It's called a "Wunited Nations" camper hat, as there's also a bucket hat variant which also seems to be sold out. That's about all I'm able to get at the moment. Sorry.
