We don't always rinse the HF rice. Never had any problems. But when using other store bought rice, it's a must!! I bought this strainer and it works great!
Hello Fresh uses Savory Choice chicken stock concentrate. As per the back of the box shown below, add to 1 cup hot water to make broth.
https://www.amazon.com/Savory-Choice-Chicken-Broth-Concentrate/dp/B002HQUZIM
This is the one that I use and I love it. It's nothing fancy and only has one switch (on).
Not an advertisement I swear, but I use privacy.com for absolutely anything regarding online shopping, it's directly linked to my bank account but HelloFresh thinks its a prepaid card? I refuse to use my actual credit/debit card info for anything, especially services that auto renew, this site is the first I've come across that doesn't let me use it.
I think you can just use stock without watering it down, or you can buy bottles of stock concentrate. We got these and they work pretty well:

My wife says she's bought a different brand in packets before from Trader Joe's but it's been a while
If I remember correctly, I just made this like yesterday, you can buy it at the store, it's a name brand packet salad dressing.
https://www.amazon.com/Marzetti-Asian-Sesame-Salad-Dressing/dp/B01G48A6X2
Someone said kitchen accomplice’s smoky chipotle is similar when I posted about the Tex mex packets available for purchase in the SE USA.
I don’t know what HF uses, but I’ve replaced it with this sauce (I get it at Costco) and it’s really darn close.
J1 Korean BBQ Sauce, Kalbi and Bulgogi, 33.86 Ounce https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00FDSB7W4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_i_iOC.Fb6ZY4AMG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Because of hello fresh I’ve bought this chicken stock concentrate from Amazon and I use it for everything, it’s so good!
I always felt that way about zesting until I got one of these! Lemon Zester, Hand-held Stainless Steel Cheese Grater for Kitchen - Fine Shredder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SG2LDDH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_7Q4XT94DDFYK9X2B0PP7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Your idea is brilliant! I wished I had thought of it. I splurged and got some spice jars from Amazon https://smile.amazon.com/AllSpice-Penzeys-Plastic-Styles-Shaker/dp/B01LZW3LSX Edited to say they’re GLASS not plastic.
Depending on what kitchen tools he has already, these come in really handy with the prep: lemon/lime squeezer, mini chopper - great for mincing garlic/ shallots and stuff, oven puller (I have this one and it's saved me a few burns lol)
I've seen some really creative binders people have made here for organizing recipe cards, with creative covers, laminated pages and tabs. That might be useful for him if he has a stack of them. Maybe with a personalized binder cover if possible.
Cutting board with containers? I never thought of that. Sounds handy! My cutting board is small, fills up and doesn’t fit everything I need to chop.
Like this? Bamboo Cutting Board With Trays
I use these from Amazon! Pretty sure it's the same thing: https://www.amazon.com/Savory-Choice-Liquid-Chicken-Concentrates/dp/B01EK4Q9YM/
Felt inserts to use between pans so they don't touch each other.
Oh for sure, you never know who might appreciate both our options. I linked a similar one below, but this thing gets a WORKOUT in my kitchen. Useful for so much, super easy to clean.
I'm a fan of the cheap burger press. I have a tupperware version I use to make things uniform. And a scale.
The first page of reviews have three 1 star reviews (I dare say you can find neg reviews of all the other choppers too)
I have one I use just for citrus zest because it’s quicker and less messy because it collects the zest under the grate…no zest flying everywhere. https://www.amazon.com/Microplane-34630-Citrus-Zester-Yellow/dp/B06X9NG2YC
This is correct. Get one of these mini microplane lemon zesters and you can’t go wrong. It also collects the zest neatly under the grate and rinses clean. Easy peasy. https://www.amazon.com/Microplane-34630-Citrus-Zester-Yellow/dp/B06X9NG2YC/
You can sometimes get it in Tesco in the US section but I always get it from Amazon.
I use a salt pig though - just sits on my countertop and I season just with my fingers when cooking - it's a nice thing to have just there.
The salt is expensive when compared to table salt and no, it doesn't taste any better, but it's easier to control when seasoning. I used to use Maldon's but that's more a finishing salt and the flakes are too big for my liking - has it's place though.
This is a great dupe for their Tex mex paste!!
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AUHATFY
And the same stock concentrates!
https://smile.amazon.com/Savory-Choice-Liquid-Chicken-Concentrates/dp/B01EK4Q9YM/ref=sxts_rp_s_a_3_0
Commenting so I hopefully remember to order this. How do I call the reminder bot???

These are their stock concentrate packages!! I use these for everything! I use them to double the sauces or gravy, I add them to any ground meats or soups or stews or pretty much anything. They are the best
https://smile.amazon.com/Savory-Choice-Liquid-Chicken-Concentrates/dp/B01EK4Q9YM/ref=sxts_rp_s_a_3_0
these are the stock concentrate packets they use
https://smile.amazon.com/Savory-Choice-Liquid-Chicken-Concentrates/dp/B01EK4Q9YM/ref=mp_s_a_1_7
Here! Adding a few of these to almost anything makes it way tastier. I sometimes get EveryPlate instead and add a few extra little things and turn it into a HelloFresh meal for way cheaper
I love the Kitchen Accomplice stock concentrate from Amazon. We keep a bottle of the chicken one on hand. Its about 1 1/2-2 tsp of concentrate in their packets so I just measure it out when needed. No packets to throw away and open while cooking. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B019I6AX9Y?ref=nb\_sb\_ss\_w\_as-reorder-t1\_ypp\_rep\_k0\_1\_13&amp&crid=2EQ7TFSNK1ACL&amp&sprefix=kitchen+accom
I did a lot of research on this and found out that this is the product that they use. I was able to find it in a very small hole-in-the-wall Asian Market. But here's the Amazon link if you don't want to go searching around town.
KIKKOMAN Glaze Soy Sweet Sauce, 11.8 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009FFZDC6/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_TSD38XTMWNGV05MW18M2
Yes!! So these are the broth concentrates that are used in these boxes and adding a couple extra of these make a world of a difference.
I have studied pretty much copycat recipes between the more expensive companies and their cheaper versions, and the difference is usually just some more sour cream, mayonnaise, or cream cheese, and some more spices and extra broth concentrates.
The basics are almost always exactly the same. I turn the Dinnerly shepherds pie into the HelloFresh pub version with a few small changes, added canned tomatoes, some celery and more creamy complements and extra broth concentrate and voila- the HelloFresh delicious version!
Fresh herbs help a lot too. You can toss a rosemary bush in your backyard and that thing will probably stay alive without touching it.
https://smile.amazon.com/Savory-Choice-Chicken-Broth-Concentrate/dp/B06X3XR7HR/ref=sxts_rp_s1_0
I got these on Amazon to recreate the Chicken in shoyu style ramen meal. They are cheaper in an Asian food mart, but this was convenient because I was able to get the ramen stock base on Amazon too!
Hime Japanese Dried Ramen Ramyun Noodles 25.4 oz (720g) (Pack of 2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071Z6YX2M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1KJBM3F1QTQ5399NREHF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I've bought three packs of these and try to put the cards in them right away: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VD9H3F9/. That seems like it could be particularly helpful if they're switching from cardstock to paper.
I’ve had this one for years: Amazon Basics 9-Inch Thermal Laminator Machine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUI5QWS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BGJQ6D8REMVHFEBYBMTT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I don’t use it a lot but when I do it’s mostly to laminate recipes. Works great still and I’ve had it since 2017.
Idk if this is over stepping but I noticed none of your foods are touching. I also don’t like my foods to touch. I highly recommend these.
Sorry if it was a false assumption I just know they’ve been really helpful with my eating habits.
This set is all Reduced Sodium. You can find other options for purchase on Amazon. The Reduced Sodium should be half the sodium of the regular concentrate (360mg). I used this link because it gave the nutritional details for each variety. I like that I have room to add salt to my taste with these. The full sodium bouillion/broths are just too much for us. Yeah, I agree about the Savory Choice ones. Much better.
Most grocery stores sell it. There are different varieties - lemon, orange, lime - but I believe HF usually uses a generic “citrus” one like this Kikkoman ponzu available on Amazon.
Kikkoman Soy Sauce, Ponzu Citrus, 10 Fl Oz https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000YG51GI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_B2FCH8T57300M51J95ZQ
Just ordered this to keep it in the rotation: Korean BBQ for Beef - 29.63fl Oz (Pack of 1) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00L16XBDA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_KKZF6WQYJPWDK0G2FD8E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I don’t use frozen food only fresh and tinned. I’m used to shopping 3 or 4 times a week, which I will probably just go back to as it’s cheaper and I can buy meat with 7+ days as it’s usually in a protective atmosphere.
Yea the prep was a lot. I made this on a night I had energy. I recommend getting a peeler that is specifically for Julianne or ribbons. I got one a few years ago and it works great. Sunkuka Julienne Peeler Stainless Steel Cutter Slicer with Cleaning Brush Pro for Carrot Potato Melon Gadget Vegetable Fruit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYWRRIT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_96YXQYK0VKQMW8DSQQDN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Don’t skimp on a knife. Having a good knife will speed up your prep times. I have thisknife and I love it. I also have $200+ knives but I prefer this $50 one.
We actually recreated this last week and it was just as good! Super easy to make with your own ingredients. I make several HF recipes myself now and use this for the stock concentrate: https://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Accomplice-Reduced-Chicken-Concentrate/dp/B019I6AX9Y?pd\_rd\_w=M3uR1&pf\_rd\_p=10fcba09-cb74-4822-816c-54937a8b6a73&pf\_rd\_r=P7MAE05MYC96AN3BBYQ7&pd\_rd\_r=ec168cad-da81-4cfd-8e18-7ee7cddccd7e&pd\_rd...
I usually buy za’atar pre-made, the one from Spice House is good, most recently I bought this one and it’s also good
the brand from Whole FOods makes a chicken one too. Found it on Amazon
https://smile.amazon.com/More-Than-Gourmet-Demi-glace-1-5-Ounce/dp/B001E5E0WY?ref_=ast_sto_dp
In the US, that would be one packet of this:

Highly recommend getting one or both of these for zesting, grating, and finely mincing things like garlic.

This is what they used to use in the U.S. It's amazingly good. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002HQUZIM
The stuff they use now is much less good, but in the meals it's usually okay. We buy the good stuff directly now for ourselves.
The tricky part is the noodles and the broth concentrate. I’ve shared these before but these are the noodles and concentrate I use when making the ramen. Check your local asian market for better prices though. Mine has the noodles fir half the amazon price.
Tonkotsu Ramen Concentration Pork Bone Soup, 1-Pounds, 10 Packs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K69ZK46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_DGZ5V2EVMG5P615WGVQQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I have this Amazon chopper and it’s a game changer … especially when several of the veggies are cooked together, they can be chopped at the same time. Easy peasy and all uniformly sized!
Yeah sure! Here’s the noodles:
Hime Japanese Dried Ramen Ramyun Noodles 25.4 oz (720g) (Pack of 2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071Z6YX2M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_4EZQ80TGTH9SWAQ034E7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And here’s the pork ramen stock:

The noodles are about half that price at my local market but the stock isn’t too far off. If you don’t have an asian market near you though they’re a great option :)
I shared these in my ramen post, but I use this pork ramen stock concentrate when remaking the hello fresh ramen. Almost a perfect match imho. I found it locally at an asian market, but amazon carries it as well the ramen noodles and are imported from japan.
Japanese Noodles Tonkotsu Ramen Concentration Pork Bone Soup, 1-Pounds, 10 Packs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K69ZK46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_EM69E3J113B7Z33Y7EYM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I use this, it tastes the same to me.
Idk if this helps (probably not) but I love these 8oz ramekins. I can do almost every recipe with just 3 or 4 of these, a cutting board, and my pan/sheet/pot. I do mine in the dishwasher top rack or just clean them out.

As I started recreating a lot of HF meals, I bought the Savory Choice stock concentrates on line. The price for 48 packets may seem high but my thought was that I wouldn't have to store cans and bottles. This way you can follow along with the recipes. It's the same stuff. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E5E2B8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_3Q5ABPN2TRBAXB5DX243
Need to start a sticky thread with hints and tricks. For me, I looked at a Prep Deck, but it seemed it had too many covered containers for storing prepped food. I bought this 3 piece breading set.
I dump my bag into the largest tray, roll down the edges of my bag for trash and begin to prep everything, placing ingredients that will be cooked together in the same tray. I usually have a small bowl for compost trash, and put non-compostable into the bag.
I have family coming this weekend so I ordered this meal X 3. I hope its good!
It's out of stock on Amazon UK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Savory-Choice-Chicken-Concentrate-5-1-Ounce/dp/B001E5E2AE
It is available here but I can't tell if this is a legit UK online store or something else:
https://www.u-buy.co.uk/product/2LKEQEU-savory-choice-chicken-broth-concentrate-5-1-ounce-box
I have this kind and I like the results way better.

The negative reviews for this paste say that it's "not spicy" so it might work for you!
Sichuan peppercorns also aren't "spicy", they're floral in flavor and make your mouth tingle.
https://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Accomplice-Wicked-Smokin-Chipotle/dp/B07BFQGTRZ
I used this yesterday for the enchiladas. I bought the 2.7 oz packets at Walmart and treated it like it was two HF packets. Turned out amazing!
I have this mandolin set but I just really didn’t want to be bothered. My job makes me moody sometimes. 😆
I put it in a mesh sieve (I own this set) and let the water run over it for 30sec - 1min and swirl it around with my hand or a spoon so it all gets soaked. You can tell its rinsed when the water runs clear.
For anybody looking to recreate the dish at home for 2 people, I found the 150 mL cartons of coconut milk on Amazon.
I am not a pro, but we got the cuisinart convective toaster oven and love it. We air fry on the super convection mode. amazon link
Many people use this link as a alternative option when making HF recipes on their own with store bought items. The ingredients in this stock concentrate is made with mushrooms and because it is difficult to find the ingredients for the HF stock concentrate, it would be a safe bet to treat the alternative brand as the real thing and just assume that the HF stock veggie concentrate also is made with mushrooms.
https://www.amazon.com/Savory-Choice-Vegetable-Concentrate-4-2-Ounce/dp/B001E5E2B8
Even the Kitchen Basics brand found at most grocery stores is also made with mushrooms
Someone suggested this the other day, I haven’t tried it out yet though. El Yucateco Paste Achiote 3.5 oz (Pack of 8) Bundled with PrimeTime Direct Silicone Basting Brush in a PTD Sealed Bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NGHQMCY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_L7-4FbFM7P6ZB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

One rinse and it’s clean. It also makes larger zest strips so there is more flavor, in my opinion.
Also I bought a set on Amazon. Herb scissors and a stripping tool. Cuts my cilantro stripping and cutting time in half and makes green onions a breeze. herb set
I’ve used a food processor in the past but I’ve found it to be more cumbersome (assembly, cleanup) than just hand dicing.
I think you’d be better off investing the money in a good knife and honing steal. I use this knife and this honing steal. Go on YouTube and watch a few videos on how to use a honing steel. It’s takes almost no time to chop vegetables if your knife is sharp and maintained.
IMO it takes less time to just chop everything up by hand than it would for me to drag out my food processor, set it up, and clean it between items to prevent cross contamination.
Here's a link to the app, as far as I see on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hellofresh.androidapp&hl=en_US
I have the same phone as you and it certainly works on mine. Hopefully that helps!
Might not be exactly the same, but made one of the recipes using this as a replacement because my ingredient bag didn’t show... and it was GREAT.

They make a device for ground meat to help break it up! I saw it on the Great British Baking Show once and bought it! Meat Masher
I ordered the 8” version of this one on Amazon. My aunt who cooks a lot recommended it as a good starter knife that won’t break the bank.
If you want them to look extra fancier, there are some sticker labels sold on Amazon with a nice "frame" like this amazon label demo.
Did they use the little packet of chicken stock concentrate for the sauce? If so, they sell them on amazon! Here’s the link ! I hope that helps or hope someone else can!
