Yes!! I just got this one for $20 and I love it. It's absolutely brutal.
FYI, I find it's a little easier on my wrists if I hold it overhand (like ski poles). May be awkward at first if you haven't jumped that way before, but I do so pretty frequently to target different muscles.
Definitely understand I have the same issue something that has really helped me is

Gotcha. I've seen a lot of people day they use horse stall floor mats.
I grabbed a thin, smallish, multi-purpose rubber mat to reduce rope wear, since I do most of my jumping in my concrete carport. Not sure if this link will work for you, but here's the exact one I bought in Amazon:
In hindsight, it's a little thin and lightweight, and since I have heavier ropes, something thicker or heavier might help keep it from moving as much. And the feedback on my feet is a little weird because it doesn't lay flat perfectly, but it definitely helps reduce rope wear.
If you have a local hardware or tool store, they may have some other silicone or rubber mats like people use near a workbench or in a garage. I've seen other people use those with a lot of success.
If your goal is reducing wear on your rope, I would think anything more rubbery than and less abrasive or textured than your floor should help.
I mean. It's just a generic gold's gym nylon jump rope.
I'm planning on buying this mat or this one, which is more expensive but "TPE is better than PVC"? l. Also I don't think WOD nation has replacement cables. Whats a good brand that does?
Bringing your hands closer does a few things that could cause tripping. It effectively increases the length of the rope arc and may make it feel longer than before. Also it also forces you to use your wrists to generate spin since your elbows and shoulders are more locked on. So that could take a bit of time to get used to.
Regarding shins. If it's dull ache it's probably ok and will recover. If it's a sharp pain you want to take a lengthy break to recover. Make sure you have good foot wear with proper support and look into something like a mat to jump on. You want something that is still firm and not spongey or it'll mess up how the rope touches the floor.
I have something like this and you can get it for about 17 bucks used or 30 new. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004IJI7HW/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_glt_i_1VWF9GDCEQHZT9ENRAFM?psc=1

I bought it from shopee (south east asia online store) but I think they also sell similar products on Amazon.

I use that and love it.

https://www.amazon.com/Buddy-Lee-Jump-Ropes-Hyperformance/dp/B07C5PBS8F?th=1&psc=1
Throw a mat down over it. You can get a good-sized one on Amazon for under $40. Here's the one I use 5-6 days a week, barefoot over concrete: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041GQH3S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Other than that, use pain and soreness as teachers. If you feel pain, something needs to be adjusted (and usually in your technique, not your equipment). If you feel sore, you're likely doing something right.
Follow the fun!
I've been using this for 1 pound rope: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08866TBCD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The handles unscrew from the bottom, not from where the rope comes out. There are many like this on amazon, but this is the only one with solid handles. I haven't been able to find 2lb ropes though. I've been using this for about 2 months now. It seems to hold up well and doesn't get too tangled.
> so lets discuss rope quality and then I will share the rope I personally recommend.
Did I miss this?
I saw crossrope mentioned in the comments. I just bought the Survival and Cross Jump Rope off Amazon the other day, still in transit to me. Is that what you'd recommend or something else? It was only $10 so maybe you're after a higher price point. I'm a noob btw.
I've tried a few, I like very light flexible flat soft shoes that are pretty snug. My fave are actually some Speedo swimming pool shoes. Similar to this with the elastic lace.
They only cost about £12 when I found them too, and they've been pretty damn durable.
Not sure what you mean by a soft beaded rope? I myself own 1 heavy rope and I never really use it, honestly I regret buying it. That being said they are super popular right now. Here is an example of a beaded rope that is just fine for a variety of uses:
Or for something nicer that I’m guessing uses a better grade of plastic
$7.50

And for 7.50 that rope will do just about anything you need it to short of setting crossfit records lol

I was wondering to buy it too but I bought these N1fit 1lb weighted jump rope
They are pretty good and get the job done at a very low price.
I might go for cross rope once I become advanced. They seemed too much of an investment at a beginner stage.

I've got these two and have used both of them fairly frequently. Especially the weighted one is built like a brick
I actually used heavy ropes on tiles a lot, it depends what types of tiles you have I guess, you could get one of those thicker mats, I use one on grass, works great, for example, it's also great for learning power moves
Hi all,
I've just bought this on Amazon : https://www.amazon.co.uk/kuou-Weighted-Skipping-Adjustable-CrossFit/dp/B088QYG696/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=weighted+jump+rope&qid=1600176577&sr=8-7

Hopefully its ok to get started with.
Looking forward to getting going!
I have this one from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N808QIH/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_CzoQEbR9T1Y0N
Cheap, and large enough to do bodyweight stuff on too. Used it everyday since early march and its perfect.
https://www.amazon.com/Jump-Rope-Experience-Adjustable-Maximalize/dp/B00D136JQ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536601539&sr=8-1&keywords=golden+stallion+jump+rope This has been my absolute favorite so far that I have used. works on grass, has a good weight and a nice turn. Be ready to condition the leather and maybe use a 600 grit sandpaper on your handles, it's in a high gloss finish and tit gets hard to hold when the sweat flows.
I would suggest to check the money rope from Rush Athletics:
I use it all the time and very satisfied with it.
i've owned 4-5 ropes in the price range that didn't work out. If you can dig a little deeper, I highly recommend this set. https://www.amazon.com/Crossrope-Jump-Rope-Get-Lean/dp/B07CR5DMQG
If you need to stay 30 or under, this one is nice too but it is very industrial and may leave you with a few lashes. https://www.amazon.com/WOD-Nation-Speed-Jump-Rope/dp/B00ZWDJ7PO
That was my first 1 lb rope. I then upgraded to this one from HereRope. It's a much better made rope and closer to the same price. It's a bit heavier - actually closer to 1 lb than the redify is. If you have the extra money though, I also highly recommend the 3 rope set.
Dang, a DIY rope is pretty cool!
Unfortunately, the closest I could find was Buddy Lee's swivel system they use for the Aero Speed and Ropemaster: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GNJ5JGM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_J3NBJSYNH9VXS07R7016?psc=1&vs=1
I'm not sure if that would work with what you have because it's meant for PVC with a certain size hole in the middle and assumes you have a certain type of handle and fastening tool.
>Bullshit man, nothing in the store pops up with that name.
Blame your Google Play Store settings. Official website from the developer.
Yes, I use this set from HEREROPE and love it. The handles are about the same size and weight as the Crossrope Get Strong handles, and the ropes themselves are pretty much the same as crossropes other than the connectors. It takes a few extra seconds to switch out the HereRopes compared to Crossropes especially when my hands are sweaty but that's a very minor issue especially when I get the extra 1 lb rope when compared with Crossropes.
I've only had them a few months so I can't speak for longevity quite yet but I've used them about 30-45 min a day, 5 days a week and the wear seems normal.
They do also make a couple different 1/4 lb ropes too that you can't change the handles on. I had this one but returned it once I found the interchangeable set. There's another listed on hererope.com but I prefered to check them out through Amazon since the return process was easier if I didn't like them.
It does take a few extra seconds to change the ropes out compared to Crossropes especially when your hands are sweaty, but that's never bothered me. I can usually use the extra rest. On that note, I do use the the Crossrope App for workouts which is fantastic.
I bought this back in march 2019.
I lent it to a friend who broke it, they said the rope broke while storing it hung.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075962YBQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For the price(then it was <$25), I would have bought it again, or their 2lb if it was offered.
Thank you!
The mat is an elite SRS:

I love it! It is rollable/foldable/packable. I take it all over. The folds unkink super fast as well. Highly recommend it!
If it’s something like this, then it’s definitely the rope. Because these types of ropes aren’t designed for crossovers at all and are a complete struggle for them.
Something like a crossrope bolt would be a different story though.
So I visited my sisters studio that she owns in her small town, and I tried out one of the ropes she has and actually really loved it.
This was the type of rope
which I love the feel but apparently they aren’t adjustable. I decided to get my own speed rope and did some research and I have a crossrope bolt on the way.
I got a smart jump rope off of Amazon and this is the app it links too. It’s called Renpho Fit. Jump rope was about $9. Here’s the link. Remember I’ve only used it once though haha

Yeah probably its definitely alot easier to get the feel for the rope but again just make sure you can do proper technique still.
I first bought https://www.amazon.ca/EliteSRS-Muay-Thai-Power-Rope/dp/B07XCSD8QQ
That 1.5 pound one (was alot cheaper then) and it was fine. It's actually not as advertised though as the entire rope including handle is 1.3 pounds.
Eventually the wife bought me some cross ropes and now I just use those.
Yeah I tried a yoga mat at first too and it got destroyed pretty quickly. Here's the one I'm usinggood mat.
There are also products like this:DREAM SLIM No-Bounce High-Impact Breast Support Band but I just used a yoga strap with a buckle around my chest
I bought this mat to protect my finicky joints. I love it because it’s just a tad springy and heavy enough not to flop around. However, it’s hard to jump fast and do tricks on it so I just go without if that’s what I’m working on. And to be honest, there are some days I just can’t jump because of joint pain. Listen to your body. :)
Thanks for the information. I am going to get some Nikes cross trainers and then by this workout mat on Amazon which should be good for indoor jumping as well:
https://www.amazon.com/Rubber-King-All-Purpose-Fitness-Mats/dp/B0817B8W41?th=1
Then I will go and find a portable mat for the outside that i can carry around.
There's a few knockoffs on Amazon. Unsure of the quality:
I recently bought this from Amazon. While I have no frame of reference, I‘ve found it to be excellent:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rubber-King-All-Purpose-Fitness-Mats/dp/B08XZSWWMD/
I bought the 91 x 183 (5mm) version, which is around £45 with discount. I’m sure you could find something cheaper, but this is very heavy duty (Amazon suggest 8kg but I think it’s significantly more) and jump rope gets mentioned in a lot of the reviews.
I’ve also now ordered the 122 x 183 (7mm) version (£65) to keep in my garden and will keep the smaller one for indoors. I don’t know how long these will last, but they’re like very dense kids playground flooring so I have no reason to think it won’t last me for years.
Again, while I can’t compare them to the branded mats, and I absolutely love my RA Legacy rope, I suspect these will be better value / heavier duty than a branded mat.
Yes and I am glad that you asked. The best highest performance jump ropes at the best price points in my opinion are Buddy Lee jump ropesl you can find most of his ropes on Amazon. I don’t have access to a large enough mirror and that much space just yet, but I shall try recording. I haven’t done any jump rope before, and I’m looking to try it to help as cardio and burning fat while staying safe indoors.
So glad this group exists!
Just use a mix of this Adidas speed rope and this 1lb jump rope from Amazon
I ordered this like a couple days ago and its coming. Do you think this is good? Don’t use a yoga mat because they fall apart. You shouldn’t jump rope on concrete. Bad for feet and all joints from the waste down
Yeah, it doesn’t look available any more. I think the guy that sells them came out with a new version, that I hope is added to Amazon soon.
Anyway, here is the link of the rope I’m using but as you can see it is unavailable at the moment.

You have more options searching for "foam mat"
I am doing fine with it, however as I don't have much experience, it would be great if someone else give his/her opinion on foam mats.

Hope it helps !
WOD Nation is good one. I use a mat though. That reduces wear and tear.
I’m worried about this for myself, but my rope does come with attachments/replacement ropes that are less than half a foot long that replicate the feeling of jumping, sans the rope itself. Perhaps look into a rope like that?
Jump Rope, Digital Weighted Handle Workout Jumping Rope with Calorie Counter for Training Fitness, Adjustable Exercise Speed Skipping Rope for Men, Women, Kids, Girls https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B086RFK6L3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_E0RB40XFC9HXGCDYQW4B
I think there are only two other brands that are similar to CrossRope, and while the quality is great, the biggest advantage is being able to swap cables. I own a CrossRope and like it a lot, but I never recommend it for someone starting out b/c they aren't cheap. You can buy a cheap beaded rope, similar to this Link, for less than $10 and see if jumping is something you enjoy.

I use this Adidas yoga mat. The only thing though is that it slips quite often but you can get a non-slip back for it from Ikea and put it onto the back of the mat if you wish.
I’m using this mat and it’s perfect. It’s high density rubber (so not soft like a yoga mat) and very durable . Cut mine in half because it was long. So ended up with two jump rope mats. I highly recommend for jumping rope.
I've heard some good thing about this Amazon smart watch and it is only $50. https://www.amazon.com/Amazfit-Smartwatch-Measurement-Breathing-Monitoring-dp-B08JS2SKNL/dp/B08JS2SKNL/ref=dp_ob_title_wld?th=1
However I have never used anything except my Apple watch but I'm sure there are many good alternatives available.
I use this particular one. You may have to buy a non-slip back for it though as it does slide around like crazy but still provides the protection with your rope and your legs need.
For the mat problem, check the depth of it. It might just be too thick thereabouts. I use this Adidas mat, which is 8mn thick, and I don't have any issues with it. But you can get away with any 8mn yoga mat.
Honestly I don’t really use it much. I got it mostly for release trick practice. I love my other one I got from rush athletics I believe it’s called. Cross rope is cool too but it’s more expensive and it’s not a MUST have
RUSH ATHLETICS Speed Rope... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QZT5ZJ4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Beaded ropes are ideal for beginners b/c they're cheap and have enough weight to provide feedback when learning the basic jump. They're also quite durable, but I wouldn't use them indoors. Amazon Link

Honestly just get a speed rope with ball bearings. Super cheap ones. I don't feel like converting to your currency right now but my rope handles are from a rope I paid 300 bucks for. And my rope which lasts me like 2 years is from a 40 bucks pvc rope. It breaks and I just replace it again.
Did you a favour of searching. This is just an example. But this kind of rope works fine in my experience.
I would suggest buying one of these no-rope jump ropes from Amazon:
They're cheap but good, and they last longer than regular jump ropes because obviously, the rope isn't there, but the weights that spin around. You can even find heavier ones than that or ones with a counter and/or calorie counter as well.

And also will these two jump ropes fit my needs
It's one of these thin plastic wire with wooden handles one. Don't have access to the mirror in the current lockdown, but will see if someone can check my form. I sometimes feel it in my traps, so maybe I'm tensing somewhere.
I can't get the 1/16 to work for me. 1/8 is way too big and heavy. 3/32 (2.4mm) bare cable is my sweet spot, just ordered a 250ft roll of it.
Weighted ropes are great for losing weight and maintaining muscle mass. However, if you goal is to lose fat, it is important to watch what you eat and have a balanced diet. Check out jumpropedudes on YouTube, great tutorials and explain stuff clearly. It is better to have the weight in the rope rather than the handles but it is difficult to find one for cheap (expensive alternative is Crossrope but not recommended for beginners). Ball bearings can be good, it makes the rope spin smoother, but I’ve heard some people complain that they experience “lazy wrists” - they aren’t doing much work to make the rope spin. If you’re jumping on cement, the rope is going to get chewed up pretty fast. A wire rope with a rubber or pvc coating will be more durable but just remember if you catch your shins or arms, it’ll hurt more with wire ropes. PVC is good for beginners, it has enough weight to be able to have some feedback, helping you know and get used to when to jump so you’re not tripping. This is the current rope I’ve been using Slim Panda 10 Ft Weighted/Light... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08DDBG6BX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share it’s a weighted rope and also has removable weights in the handles as well. Hope this was helpful and enjoy your jump rope journey!
I've never used one before, but this is what I found on Amazon in the US - Link
I dont know I was bored one Saturday and I walked into a boat shop for the first time, asked if they have a heavy rope. Chances are that if you show them a picture, they will find you the same rope with the same weight. If you dont live close to any area with a marina you can try something like this:
Amazon link: I usually dont support amazon
But I cant be sure about the weight. Certainly helps to ask a shop.
Do you have any recs? I usually wear maiden form shape wear this shapewear since they’re higher waist but I still have the issue
