I can also say Hanbon Forge is decent for the price. It’s not a bad recommendation. You must weigh price to quality. For $120 or $130 bucks, free shipping and no tax, you can’t beat it. Most of what they offer is 1060 through hardened steel. I’ve got a large amount of katana from a variety of Companies and forges. I run a subreddit called r/Katanaswords and have my collection on YouTube ( https://m.youtube.com/c/AgouraSteve/videos ). I don’t work for Honbon Forge, or profit from them in any way. I’m trying to help you.
If you want to pay more, then sure there are many other options. Just not at that price.
There is a cheaper sword though that I do like, that I got on Amazon for $99. Called a Xinan2018 1060 Musashi that I can attest to its Blade quality and tempering.
I do love this cheap sword a ton, but Hanbon custom can’t be beat in its price category, and price to quality in the sub $130 range is all I’m talking about here!
These hard plastic (polypropylene) ones are basically indestructible. BladesUSA Ninja Sword https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0089AGKQ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fab_IbIDFb9YT090M
They are about 5 inches too short to be ultra cool, but for sparring and indoor practice they work well. They are still really darn cool tbh. I love mine. But I have 4 bokken just from picking them up here and there over the past years. I just have trouble finding anyone to spar with.
