UPDATE: I tried doing a BRG for the hotel mentioned. The staff responded in ~ 22 hours, and gave me the lower rate of hotels.com as well as 5,000 points at checkout. That's a very sweet deal. I think I will build loyalty with them and get Bonvoy Boundless.
Yeah that would likely work too, BUT I don't think you can create a 'hotspot' from a wifi network, at least not on my laptop (a Macbook Pro). You'd need a device with 2-way broadcasting, like this mobile router I also travel with which unfortunately stopped working on this same trip! 👎
It did work, eventually, via the method I described...
I also travel with a pocket router but annoyingly the hotspot function stopped working this trip so I had to fix it the hard way...
It won't work without your own hotspot/bridge. I bought one of these and it goes on every trip with me for just this purpose.
I use this router and connect it to the hotel's wifi.
TP-Link AC750 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router(TL-WR902AC) - Support Multiple Modes, WiFi Router/Hotspot/Bridge/Range Extender/Access Point/Client Modes, Dual Band WiFi, 1 USB 2.0 Port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5RCZQH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_C3P8V06KXGYZ0KE0S9JS
Then my wyze cams, Alexa, and apple tv can connect to the router in a hotel room.
It depends upon the rate that you booked. If it was an advance purchase rate, then it's non-refundable. If you checked out prior to the hotel's checkout time and booked directly through Marriott, then the remaining nights shouldn't be charged. Your credit card was probably authorized for the total stay (room+tax+incidentals), but if not prepaid, then the remaining authorization should be returned to you. If you booked through a 3rd party and paid them (Hotels.com, Expedia, etc.) then it's probably not able to be refunded. Hope this helps.
The problem with hotels.com is you don't get the status rewards of the hotel.
I've heard that hyatt rewards are better value then marriot. But they just don't have enough locations and options for me.
Hey there dude,
Could you PM me a list of sites for the Marriott BRG stuff?
I'm forced to stay at a Ritz for a wedding (the horror, I know) -- but could definitely use their discount if I can find some obscure sites. I'm not wealthy like the groom is lol.
Also, just out of curiosity, ... taxes and fees are typically excluded from the comparison?
I already found a "lower rate" on Hotels.com (not obscure obviously) but that's AFTER taxes and fees .... not the "base rate" if that makes sense. Seems like this won't count though according to Marriott's forms.
Thanks!

I did get it honored one time, but it was frustrating! I almost let it go. I am glad I didnt because I ended up with a pretty affordable Sheraton room in Brooklyn.
What worked for me was:
I once saw that flyertalk has a long list of hotel booking sites where one can try to find a rate cheaper just to request the rate guarantee.
