We’ve been working with this since the end of September. It’s a manual tumbler—nothing real fancy. We did put too many brown paper bags that weren’t broken down enough in at one point, but it looks like we are back on track now.
Sounds great! I got all my cardboard from the app Nextdoor. I'd look in the 'free' section when people were giving away boxes after moving. I'd have to rip off tape sometimes, but I wound up with a lot of it! Also ABC stores typically will have a pile of boxes by the doors.
I started by hand-pulling weeds & grass, then putting down a layer of cardboard, then mulch on top. I continued that, with the double layer. The cardboard degrades pretty fast though, and I wind up with more weeds in a season or two. I like the idea of cardboard but there are some places that are just really bad.
My two worst offenders are nut sedge and a warm-season grass with runners, I haven't identified the grass yet. For those areas, I put down this: Weed barrier
