When I got my pinetime I initially used the built-in alarm for a week or so to wake up slightly before my wife and daughter. I think I slept through it one time, so I'd definitely suggest a backup alarm as mentioned elsewhere in this thread.
If you're using an android phone, I can highly recommend combining the app Sleep as Android that started supporting pinetime a while ago. I've been using that for quite some time now and have been really happy with it. It's using individual basic notifications to wake you up that increase in frequency the longer you don't react (turn the alarm off on your phone). It also has a backup alarm feature built in so once you turn off your pinetime alarm, you're done. You can even use the pinetime for rudimentary sleep cycle tracking based on movement that can try to wake you up during light sleep if you're into that kind of thing. That and the need to get up and walk to my phone to turn off the alarm has been working great for me, all the while letting my wife and daughter sleep through it.
