I use an AKAI MPD226 to do just this, though you can get smaller more portable ones if you're looking to be more on the movie. This one doesn't have an SD card so it just plugs into a PC and you can play SFX from the pads. You have to tweak some of it to make sure it's not set to pressure (or else if don't press it hard enough it will be too quiet) but this works for me!
My issue with the headphone hub is that I wanted guests to be able to adjust their own volume to their comfort and there just wasn't a good, clean-looking way for two guests to both reach the hub, let alone reliably adjust the right knob. so I got a couple of these volume controls on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077KXKVRG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and hooked them into the channels on the hub. The side opposite where you see the cable going in has a 3.5mm output where the headphones get plugged in. The guest can bring their own if they'd like.
Its a Rockville DJ laptop gear bag. Don't see a model on it. But here's the link to Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079ZZ968M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rv.ECbHACP5YF
Worked perfect on it's first outing and was fairly comfortable to carry. Didn't realize how far away I was going to have to park for the interview I did last night.
I ordered them on Amazon a few times. They have eight positions bit you can't reverse them 180 degrees as that position is blocked. The other seven are available if you unscrew the two Torx bolts on the back. The cover comes off and you can push the assembly in and reseat it. I use a Torx T8H bit but a T8 works.
