Just the obvious, even it and wait until it grows back.
Regarding the sheltie summer trim question, you aren't really supposed to trim their coats, the hair protects them from overheating and getting sunburns, is my understanding.
I have used undercoat rakes with great success on my shelties though, have you tried those?
I have used this one on Amazon. I use it after I bathe my dogs, once their coat is dry. The warm water is supposed to loosen the undercoat, so the undercoat rake will take more out. One year I swear I had enough fur to make another dog, and my female with the thickest coat looked like she lost 10 pounds after I finished. Of course it took an hour.
The cycle we did for the last pup and what we'll do a flexible version of for our latest:
Repeat every 2-3 hours, skipping water/kibble the cycle before bed time to avoid crate accidents. We'll usually draw out 1 or 2 cycles ahead of bed time to avoid him getting too much rest before its time to sleep for the night, too.
The important part for us will be making sure the dog is exposed to a lot of different people, places and things, and stay quietly in a crate, bite inhibition, playing well with others, as well as knowing how to be when we're gone.
This is a must read if you have or are getting a puppy. I wish I had read it sooner: Before & After Getting Your Puppy - Ian Dunbar. If you're looking for material to improve your understanding of training, I'd recommend Ian Dunbar, Sophia Yin, and Pat Miller's books.
Mine just turned 1 and she needs at least 1 hour of exercice (dog park or walk) and we add puzzles or trick learning to mentally burn her too. For example, instead of giving her food in her bowl, we make her work for it by playing or by mashing it and freezing it in her interactive bowl. like this
Awww!!! I love it! Such a beauty! And clearly much loved! 💜
My little girl has some mobility issues as well (10 in November) and I bought a sling for carrying firewood to help her out. I put a crate pad in it and she just hops right on to go up and down stairs. She’ll even go get on it on her own when she’s ready to go to bed (two story house), or when it’s time to go to the park and she needs a lift down to the car. 🤣 Granted, she is on the small side, lol, but we do what we have to do for our precious pups. They have different sizes/brands out there, so depending on how big your sweet girl is you could see if there’s something that could work.

Teaching your puppy to walk beside and with you is so important for easier walking and keeping them safe in busier, higher traffic areas. It also prevents any other dogs from coming up to your dog if you don’t want them to which keeps everybody safe.
A collar I have found that my sheltie does really well with is a chain martingale type collar (like this)! The chain will tighten to prevent it from accidentally slipping off and shelties are so sensitive that you hardly need to think to correct or direct them while walking. And slip on collars that tighten are very easy with their small heads lol! But harnesses are great especially for training a young puppy and for extra safety. I started using the martingale collar once my dog got older.
Enjoy your lovely pup! Shelties are one of a kind :)

I recommend a safari mat remover to brush out the fluff mats every month or so. One side of the brush has sharp blades to cut through matted fur.

Our last sheltie, in her old and arthritic years, loved her cool-bed. It was a cushioned place to lay that didn't trap heat.
So I do not have a sheltie (YET!) but my Pembroke Welsh Corgi Blanco is a pretty rough player, and he has had a Kong Ring since birth that has held up better than any other toy he has owned, thus far. Admittedly he is only 11 months old, but I have been pleasantly surprised by its ruggedness. I even bought a second one since he loved it so much, and I was sure he would have broken it by now.
