I am working on a bunch of analytics and obviously the more data from the community the better the output I can give you all :)
What size are you looking for? I had a few extra sleeves I bought from a few years back. And then recently decided I wanted to sleeve SmashUp and had to buy 1000 more sleeves to do so. And I found the old ultra pro in the size that I wanted on amazon after 20 minutes of looking. I just used 2 5/8” x 3 5/8” of the ultra clear because they’re cheap and you can buy them in bulk. If they’re not the size you bought before they could be bought to resleeve everything for a great price.
You get 10 packs of 100 for about $10 plus shipping. Be careful when using this though because these are supposed to be ultra pro 2 5/8” x 3 5/8” but some sellers have been sending other brands and the offer has been updated to allow it. You can use the questions to make sure you use a seller that gives the ultra pro ones compared to another brand and you can always return them after buying and buy again from a different seller in the event you don’t get ultra pro.
The entire point of sleeving cards is to protect them.
Here's a link to the sleeves I use. They're quite inexpensive, so you will be able to sleeve all of your cards.

I recently purchased a file storage box https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PKRHLCF/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_74EABH9QNTJW4FGH4EZF
This allows for wverything the big geeky box was able to hold plus two additional sleeves. I have all of the expansions that are released at the moment and all are sleeved so the BGB was getting too small. The added bonus is this thing has handles and is water/fire resistant.
I recently purchased these from Amazon & all of my cards (1200 I think is how many I ended up sleeving) fit into them fine; although not an exact fit since the top opening of the sleeve sticks out a few millimeters above the card. I did take some time in researching on Amazon through user reviews and found that although some sellers use the picture of Ultra Pro sleeves, that doesn't mean that's what you will get especially if they add "product may vary" in their title. People ended up with different sized sleeves or completely different product because of it.
Amazons a bit finicky. The penguin and sheep factions for example are like 3x their price on anazon then from AEGs site (10 bucks each not including shipping) or german, and I had to order what looked to be a deconstructed version of Its Your Fault to get an english version. General advice, if it says Pegasus Spiele then its a german version.
On that note however, there isnt any german exclusive expansions. As for Big in Japan, it is english. To make it more Japanessy they spelt the titan of Smash up in kanji (i assume). Its all english aside from that. If your buying from amazon heres a link to the english version of BiJ that I bought last october when I was first starting off
They're a pretty thick plasticard, so I'm personally not gonna worry about them scuffing or scratching unless I'm playing on a table of rocks or something (and at that point sleeves aren't much help in avoiding dents anyway). I can already wash them if they get dirty they're resistant to water, and the edges won't get scuffed in shuffling.
That said, I'm pretty sure tarot card sleeves should do the trick, or 95% of it. They might be too wide since I haven't measured.
A more portable alternative to getting a Big Geeky Box is to get this card holder:
https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Carrying-Exterior-Dividers-Compatible/dp/B00XYC3MNI
I use it to hold my Smash Up cards as well as a few other small games (like Hanabi).
Also want to add that the Base Set is optional, if you prefer other expansions; the really necessary one, imo, is Awesome 9000 (which not only includes the more legible base set bases, but includes tokens for victory points).
One neat thing i find with the standard UltraPro deck boxes is that they hold one (sleeved) expansion per box, so you can sort them quite nicely. They also come in a bunch of colours. You'd need a separate case to actually hold the deck boxes though.
I use KMC Silver Sleeves. They run about $10 per 80, so it's around $20 bucks for each expansion, but they are amazing. They may be a big more expensive than other options, but they last a long time and shuffle very well.

I usually play on a 3 player group but sometimes it grows up to 5.
5 players make bases score way too fast thus we are thinking about adding +7 break points on every base on the board. We haven't tested it yet, it just came up from brainstorming.
We've tried playing with more than two factions... it didn't work that well to us. Perhaps it could work for you.
If anyone in your playing group has an android phone they can download and app to randomize decks. Quite handy IMO.
As for tips... remember that boundaries for what a card does are very explicit. If no boundaries are written there are actually no bounds for that card.
