amazon is where i got them!

First of all your snails are beauties! :3 So for keeping track of humidity I've used the hygrometers they make for terrarium set-ups, like this one, and in my experience they are helpful for a ballpark # but their ongoing accuracy can be questionable just fyi! I was able to get a psychrometer similar to this from where my bf works but clearly there's a big price diff!
It looks like you're partially covering their lid in that last pic and that's a great way to help retain humidity. I've used pieces of acrylic and saran wrap to cover my lids that are mesh or have gaps, and that's also worked well for me!
I have this one (It's working really well, plus if you get any more snails then it's big enough :) )
I also have this one :) it's quite a bit cheaper and it works well too
something my snail loves are the fake terrarium plants that suction cup to the sides. the small ones are more than big enough for my snail and she loves climbing and sleeping in them. they can also help in covering hard surfaces bc they're longer. i have three bundles in mine & they're $4 a piece on amazon
It keeps it moist in there. I've had this set up for about a year and things seem to be going well. Here's the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076FSFRTW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1&fpw=alm
I used distilled water and check it each morning when I've got babies - they rarely get in the top hole, but if they do I take them out.
Thank you so much for the reply. I’m looking though all of those sites right now. I have a little empty aquarium that I can use.
I have these wonder shells that I use in one of aquariums. Would these work for the calcium source?
Weco Wonder Shell Natural Minerals (3 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003C5PUCS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_YjgNFbN5T242T
It's a terrarium like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087D676WT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 so I'm worried that there's practically zero airflow when the lid is closed
Don't overdo it with the misting. I used a spray bottle, and there were a few times that I had to get a fuckton of paper towels and just absorb the puddle of water I created in the dirt. So just try to monitor the floor, and don't let it get too wet. So don't get soil that holds moisture super well, it's more about the walls since that's where my snails tend to prefer to be.
I don't know how many snails you're gonna get, but for the 2 I had a while back I used one of these, and they seemed to like it pretty well. So maybe a little bigger, but not too much. I wouldn't suggest getting a tank that's too big for too few snails, they don't seem to like that.
If your snail lays eggs and you don't want to keep them, from what I've heard, you should put them in a bag and freeze them for a week to 2 weeks.
You'll also have to clean the cage a lot if you have more than 2. My snails seemed to enjoy pooping all over the walls. I just wet a paper towel and wiped down the walls.
And find out what your snails like. My snails LOVED crunchy stuff, and would hardly eat soft stuff. I wouldn't do mushy food either like banana. It gets so gooey because the tank is so moist and then the whole tank smells like banana even after you clear it out.
Sorry this was kinda all over the place, hope it helps though!
I've started to move to a different source of calcium (started with egg shells, then cuttlebone) now I'm really liking these oyster shells on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MD59TC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have 5 snails, and they do pretty well in a 10 gallon fishtank I got for a good price on amazon. Then I just went to a local pet supplies store and grabbed a lid for the top to keep them in. I'll link the one I got, but it's probably too big for just 1 snail. But if you ever plan on having multiple, I'd highly recommend it. Also, I second the comment below about using coconut coir and moss for the substrate. Holds water well and doesn't grow mold like the top soil I was using before.
I usually recommend 80x45x45cm as a minimum for large GALS species. Since he is alone, you can get away with the 60x45x45 but he definitely wouldn't mind larger :)
I would not get anything less than 45cm high (I use 50cm high) because he needs such high substrate (at least 1,5x his shell length). So with 30cm tanks you can't give him enough substrate because then there's no space for plants, cork rounds, etc...or him even because he so big xD (not to mention overhead heating if you want to switch to that).
I don't think Diatomaceous earth is the same thing...google tells me that healing earth is silt and a little bit of clay. It's light brown and mixed with water becomes a very fine clay-like pulp - I never tried looking up an alternative :/
Here's the link to the actual product I use, maybe that helps: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Luvos-Heilerde-ultrafein-Pulver-380/dp/B00E5AQD9I/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2IXVVL8DNMEO4&keywords=luvos&qid=1666013674&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjg4IiwicXNhIjoiMi4zMyIsInFzcCI6IjEuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=luvos%2Caps%2C106&sr...
For substrate, yes what you linked would work. I asked around and people said these may also work: Prorep bio life forest, habitat jungle bio, prorep crestie life. I don't know UK products myself so I can't say. I can give you a list of criteria for good soil though:
And don't forget to mix in calcium.
Ugh. I really hope you can help the lil fella!
The top part would be: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Diversa-Aquarium-Professional-Fish-Tank/dp/B07DXSZ1RQ/ref=sr_1_8?crid=2F8CHQ4TD5L71&keywords=aquarium&qid=1663849436&sprefix=aquarium%2B%2Caps%2C85&sr=8-8&th=1
I have send the link to the potential new home
You mean this? https://www.amazon.ca/Scotts-Company-Osmocote-274850-Smart-Release/dp/B00GTDGMHC
Then no that's not safe for snails, please don't use it.
Soil for snails should be additive and fertilizer free. This product is advertised as plant food, which means it definitely has additives and likely fertilizers too.
they’re assholes but i think someone else here linked that insect killer mosquito bits which if placed in reptiles drinking water/ water you give plants won’t harm herps, inverts (like pet bugs; roaches, isopods, snails) but will kill any larvae, so avoid near your BSFL
You can honestly use anything as an enclosure, a plastic tub will do but you’ll need to put holes in it for oxygen. I use critter keepers. They are sold in pet shops or online and look like this any brand will do, but you will need to put tape over most of the air holes to keep in the humidity.
PH should be neutral I think, Too acidic can damage shell.
unfortunately tanks are very expensive. i have this one https://www.amazon.com/Terrarium-Reptiles-Amphibians-inches-PT2602A1/dp/B000OQW98Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=3QPZ8636CVLNA&keywords=exo+terra+glass+natural+terrarium&qid=1649534173&sprefix=exo+terra+glass+na%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-8 but if that is too expensive you can look for another like it. you can definitely look up front opening terrarium diys tho. :) just make sure that they arent the type that slide open (that could crush the snail and is just a really bad idea), it’s more than 5 gallons (you can look up what a tanks dimensions equal in gallons, has ventilation, and optionally you can get a glass one because they’re normally better.
https://www.amazon.com/REPTIZOO-Reptile-Terrarium-Thermometer-Hygrometer/dp/B07D284W96/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=MAMRJKN6W7YR&keywords=digital+hygrometer+reptiles&qid=1649526477&sprefix=digital+hydrometer+reptiles%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-8 this one is good. just stick it on the inside of the enclosure (after cleaning). 70-90% is the goal humidity but make sure to double check for your specific type of snail. to keep the humidity up make sure to spray the enclosure with dechlorinated water
PH Value is checked with testing Strips... Like: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07BQRC523/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_5AR3AXS48ZAVBHKPRDBN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
While for temp and humidity, I'm not an expert on Capaea, but not below 66°F / 19°C and 30% humidity
I ordered 2 milk snails on Amazon last year in October and I am still super happy with them. They laid eggs a week after I got them...unfortunately I ruined them unknowingly. Here's the link:
I avoid the terrariums with metal because there’s no saying what traces could be in it, and apparently a lot of metal compounds are toxic to snails. Idk what source there is for that, people just told me to stay away from them so I am to be safe. 😭
This is the one I ended up getting: Exo Terra Faunarium, Plastic Reptile Terrarium, Mini https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00025YVUI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_ENTKV33Z8P5HTT4PQ697?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It can fit up to 5 quarter-sized snails. All plastic, really easy to clean. I personally find it more aesthetic than a plastic tub, however plastic storage tubs are VERY convenient and cheap. Exo Terra has other size faunariums that could work too.
As a little extra, I found out that the faunarium above can actually fit this on the lid perfectly: Now Designs 2023022aa Reusable Baking Dish Cover, Onyx Design https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LD792HY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_WAPJA79EANHACG7YCH67?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s been a really pretty way to keep in moisture aha.
I honestly have no idea.
I just lost 3 of my 4 pisana and they were all deeply retracting. I ordered this “kit” off Amazon (Snail's First Aid Complete Pack. Pet Snail Emergency Care Kit for Giant African Land Snails, Helix Pomatia (Escargot or Roman Snails), Aspersa, etc https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LHHGWT3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_615SV14RM64738D9PNH9) when I first got snails, thinking it might be helpful to have on hand but never actually used it until the other day.
My pisana is back to his old self! So happy I tried it! (I did adjust the time boiling the tea and how much I diluted it based on my snail’s size (which is what I used above) since it was made for GALS and I didn’t want it to be too strong.
It was basically a last ditch effort to save my snail and I’m thankful it worked. It even says you can use it monthly to help their immune system but like I said, no links to scientific studies or anything.
It’s actually this: Zoo Med Laboratories Hermit Crab Combo Bowl- Glow https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014W0BKTS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_4SJEGVP0CE3JRWCYY91R
But I highly, highly recommend the silicone ones on basna_4208’s eBay. I have four of them! Never have to worry about accidently cracking a shell and they are the perfect “shallowness” for smaller snails to bathe in :)
It’s a semislug or Helicarionidae. Shutterstock also has photos that look similar.
As a side note, the use of the word “retarded” is offensive to some people. Using the words mutated or inbred is sufficient.
Terro T2503SR Fruit 4 Traps https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRHXM0I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_7CWDK84Q5DE7SXJ2G4R8
Once you get rid of the infestation, I HIGHLY recommend these. I put them next to all my snail tanks! Nothing else works as good as these
This is the tank I already have that I’m wondering whether or not would be fit for a potential future snail. I’ve been trying to sell it locally but no ones wanted it, so if I can get some use out of it anyway I wouldn’t mind 🤷🏻♀️
Awesome. Thanks! That’s why I decided to check here first. I figured if anyone knows, it’s r/snails.
Are these decent: NaturesGoodGuys Hypoaspis Miles aka Stratiolaelaps scimitis -Biological Control of Fungas Gnat — https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0865GS31G/ ?
I use POSCA markers to put different colored dots on my snails :) This is non-toxic and doesn’t bother them at all. It is the same thing bee-keepers use to mark bees.

He's a cornu aspersum, the temperature tends to be somewhere between 18-20 celcius. this is the tank I'm using with duct tape on the outside to cover up most of the holes. I have some moss for him, a stick, some leaves and a little cup for him to hide in which he doesn't seem to use in there. I've been offering him apples the past few days but he has been given banana, kiwi and mango recently
the most important thing is having substrate that maintains humidity without molding. you also want it to have a fairly neutral pH to protect their shells, so if you use peat you'll need to add something basic to balance out the acidity. i've had a lot of success with this: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B076BQQCBC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 which seems to be a mix of humus soil and chunks of coco coir. i mix in sphagnum moss as well.
i find that my snails don't like to crawl on straight up coco coir or sphagnum moss so i always mix it. i think it irritates their feet, but they are smaller european land snails so maybe GALS mind less.
a drainage layer might work for you or not - it depends home much your snails burrow. if they love to dig it won't be a separate layer for long, lol. they may also dig up plants you put in, so make sure you pick something that can handle a bit of abuse. also avoid sand - snails will eat a certain amount of substrate and sand can block their digestive tract.
Looks nice! The general consensus seems to be at least one gallon per snail (that isn’t a larger species) so I think this looks good.
Just other general tips that I know of. Everywhere I read said coconut coir is a preferable type of soil for snails. I put little decorations in the terrarium for them to crawl on and hide under. This product on Amazon is aquarium-safe, it’s the one I got but I actually had to saw them up a bit to get them to fit lol
It’s also really good to put some kind of shelter or something the snail can use as a cave. A terracotta pot seems to be a common one. I used a half coconut shell. But you can check around your house and probably find something that will work well. You should try to cover the top of the shelter with soil or sphagnum moss especially if it’s a harder material, since they like to climb and could fall off and crack their shell on hard surfaces.
Sphagnum moss is a huge plus because it’ll help retain so much moisture and humidity. ZooMed sphagnum is the best if you buy online, it’s all natural and no dyes added.
You can find sticks and moss yourself too if you live somewhere that has it nearby, but it’s important to sterilize everything before putting it in a terrarium since there could be unwanted bugs, bacteria or even parasites if you don’t.
Another thing is, I’ve learned that lucky bamboo is a super hardy plant that thrives in a snail tank. And my snails love it, they’re always crawling on it or sleeping underneath it. So if you see lucky bamboo around you (my grocery store sells them) you should try them out as decoration!
I tried this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NK6THJM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_R3RAWGCCD1GA435E7S3E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
They come presoaked which I found convenient, since dried mealworms need to be soaked prior to feeding it to snails, but my snails ended up not liking them. I think it’s also important to check the ingredients to ensure it’s 100% natural, no added vitamins or other. The above worms are all natural.
I’m trying bloodworms next because apparently they can be a lot more palatable to snails!
Hey! It’s no problem!
1) Not sure who told you that but they’re 100% wrong, Fulica NEED 22-24 and the inactivity is likely caused by that. Maybe they were just thinking about Giant African land snails in general and not a specific species? I would suggest now decreasing the temperature back to 24, it might shock them a little to have such a quick decrease back but it is pretty essential that they have that temperature constantly.
2) Ah, yeah definitely don’t use unbaked soil from outside. There’s nothing you can do about it now obviously but just stick to coconut fibre from now on and keep on turning it. If you ever see a fungus again just take out the part of the substrate it was on/near and replace it with more clean fibre if needed but never replace all of it.
3) Nope! Snails don’t have the capacity to feel lonely as they lack the emotional capacity. There’s a lot of people out there who will tell you otherwise but there’s no evidence to show that they do and anatomically they aren’t complex enough for it.
4) The wheel isn’t a thermostat, that’s a rheostat. It just controls the output of power to the heat pad but not the actual temperature of it like a thermostat will do. You also still need a thermostat because like I mentioned, heat pads are known to malfunction (mine have in the past!) because they’re usually very cheaply and poorly produced. If you were to be on holiday or otherwise away if this were to occur it could have awful effects for the snails so please do get one. this is the one I use for my snail, the top review has instructions on how to use it.
Hope this helps!
I have a bunch of these around (in the small) from our snake babies, I’ve found they work well for snails too! I’ve also cut holes in small tupperware containers, left the lid on and just stuffed them with moss.

Winston the snail lives in this. I think he likes it. He's a grove snail so not very big.
I’d be a biiit iffy unless you know a good way to sanitize the moss. It could contain parasites, small bugs or bacteria that isn’t good for snails or your terrarium. It may also make it harder for you to maintain the terrarium. I think I’d stay away from moss until you can get one specifically made for terrariums!
I use this moss from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035Q4CVE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_N1E08Z33A05RBPMA4J44

I bought these mealworms for mine. They’re not live but already packed in water so they’re nice and squishy. My snail hasn’t arrived yet so I hope they will work okay!
Thank you so much to both of you. Ok, I made sure the food was away from the calcium source and I will replace it asap as well as find a protein source suitable for the snail. Question though, are the calcium sticks from amazon ok? Or is that still too potent a source? https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Calcium-Pet-Snails-Sticks-African-Aspersa/dp/B07W6HQ4LH/ref=sr\_1\_2?dchild=1&keywords=land+snail+calcium&qid=1631150549&sr=8-2. Also I have attached a picture of the snail. He/she finally came down. Any idea of what species it might be?
I am getting https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HZDXQDI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_3AQJRZZ7KYKZQZZ5A3Z5?psc=1 For calcium and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HZDXQDI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_QWPFYCQV2TRS8CNBW93T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 For protien. Is this good. Are there any other foods I need other than difrent fruits and veggies every day.
Hi, thanks!
Do you know if calcium carbonate powder would work okay? And if so, could I just sprinkle some in the corner or should I sprinkle it on her food or on the stones?
The rocks by the way aren't at risk of falling on the snail, I have pushed them into the soil. They are small rocks. I have some broccoli and mushroom so I'll start feeding her more of that. :)
Amazon :)

I lined the inner corners with clear silicone before setting it up, too.
ya, i got it from a pet store, almost all of them have it just make sure not to get the green one. It may look better and “alive” but they use green dye which can be harmful to your snails. As for heaters, I got a heating mat off of amazon. Here are the links to my humidifier and heater: Coospider Reptile Fogger... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VVNP7F3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Tikaton Reptile Heat Pad -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08137Z3M2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). They work good for me and i keep my heater on all the time (but i have three layers of dirt and moss over it so they won’t go directly on the heat mat). I placed my heat mat on the outside bottom of my tank but it kind of lost its stickiness after a while but you can just use double sided tape to restick it! Also make sure to have at least one thermometer in your tank to make sure it doesn’t overheat:)
I'm a new snail parent. Still learning. I bought this stuff but I don't know how often to give it to them. I put it in their tank but they don't go near it, so I took it out. Should I always leave some in there? They mostly just eat romaine lettuce. They seem ok but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Any advice?
Ashoka is cute, what species is she?
I've also really liked this calcium product https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MD59TC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1&fpw=alm
hmm, I'm not entirely sure about the humidity! I had hoped I was doing it right. For the last month I've been at work nearly every day and so I've kept their terrarium closed with a very tiny gap for airflow and spray them at least once a day. (this is the terrarium: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087D676WT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) If anything I was worried it was too humid but that seems unlikely? I just know their soil was grossly wet and the walls were always wet with condensation.
I always use filtered water that I further prime to make sure it's not toxic to them. I only woke them up because I was cleaning out their terrarium and because he seemed deeply retracted.
Thanks for the help. Is this calcium suitable? Im not entirely sure what I should be looking for. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077HPJBJM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AB5LAUYUN6SDS&psc=1

Yep! Just like that. I'm not sure of the restraints as I'm not an expert, but as long as it's not super tiny. I'm pretty sure mine was this one, though I can't be sure as I got it in a 'snail kit' from a seller on Amazon. Unfortunately he doesn't have a page anymore.
Not that I've ever known, in my snailing. I have put this little thing (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071FVCYFW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) in my terrarium with a little rubber weight on top to keep the snails from pushing it over. I change it ~ 2 weeks and it has reduced the amount of fruit flies around the place.

You can dust some of the food you give them, but make sure to leave some undusted so they can choose. I usually either lightly sprinkle or just dip my fingers in the powder and rub a fine layer onto the food. If they are craving calcium they'll hopefully go for the dusted food and if they don't want any they'll go for the other. Watch them eat and if you don't see them showing any preference (they may not really be able to distinguish, they are snails after all) then maybe only supplement with powder every other time of 1/3 of the time. Other GALS owners on the sub (I don't raise GALS) have said dusting can lead to abnormal shell growth if they're getting too much calcium so that's why I suggest moderation. The powder is also good to add to the tank soil to ensure it's not acidic.
I’ve never used Reddit and I don’t actually know how to add text to the post, but would this be beneficial to my garden snails? I already give them veggies and fish food and a cuttlefish bone. I’m not in a pinch or anything, I just have this in the house already so I was curious :-) This is the Amazon page for this particular turtle Food.
