I spent a lot of time playing the previous titles, namely 1404 and 2070. I skipped out on 2205 after the critical reception from the fanbase was muted. I think this one could be a return to form and the Victorian theme is really doing it for me. I hope my ageing PC is up to the task.
Just announced with little to go in. It could be good, but I have been burned by Settler games in the past.
Age of Wonders III was one of my favourite games in the past decade. Plus it has been a few years since a good terrestrial Sci-fi 4x game. It looks like it is going to be an iteration on the AoWIII forumula, which I am fine with as I enjoyed it a lot. I hope they introduce a bit more on the exploiting side of the genre and economic management, rather than go all in on the combat model.
A man can dream
The expansions are Revelations, Invasions, and Star Kings.
Revelations introduces Anomalous Sites, the Heritor secret tech, the Forgotten faction, RPR marauders, etc.
Invasions introduces the Shakarn race (space lizards), the Therian faction (space furries), and the eponymous Voidbringer invasions. It says world events too, but I think they just came at the same time.
Star Kings introduces the Oathbound race and Grail Configurations as well as several new marauder types: the Psionica, the Apostates, and the Mycelians. I think Empire mode came at the same time but isn't tied to the DLC.
Civ6 seems to be doing well enough on revenue to have six DLC releases planned for this year. Amplitude Studios is putting out Humankind as a competitor this year. You could argue that Age of Wonders: Planetfall is in the Alpha Centauri genre, given that it's both a 4x and set on a scifi planet. The possibilities to recognize a trend are there.
Just in case you do want Age of Wonders 3 it is 6:43 currently on the humble bundle.
Also if you like AoW 3 and Civ Beyond Earth Age of Wonders Planetfall is coming out this year sometime and looks amazing. https://www.aow-planetfall.com/
