I prefer ClipJump for my clipboard management. It allows you to press Ctrl+c to copy to the clipboard then hold Ctrl and press V repeatedly to cycle through the clipboards. Then, just release when you are happy. It also has filters you can apply to your pasting. For example, you can create a filter to make all text uppercase when you paste it.
Consider Clipjump… Open source, portable, readily configurable.
I won't live without it. If you work on secure machines doing secure things, it's hand to safe even several months worth of clipboards. It's really nice to be able to look back and find an old link, or an usual word, or the seed of an idea that needs follow-up.
Most of the clipboard managers I have found are no longer in active development. Did not know whats giong on. I can't live without one. I use Clipjump for years now, but it not under active development since 2016. Although it works very well for me.

I've been using this ahk program forever now. It's a clipboard manager that is really fast and easy to use written in ahk.
As for help making your own, I've not got much experience there, Sorry.
