Hey all,

Hope you enjoy the patch and the new free commanders!
Massive shout out to everyone in the community who took part in this update.

Some folks really went to town to create this update for us all. You can red about who did what here: http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2019/06/12/new-commander-update-live-now
They announced the MLNW 3 event a couple days ago.
Also, there's supposed to be a balance patch this month, as well as some sort of changes to warspoils soon(ish)
The code for the games included a coupon for 75% off of Tembo the Badass Elephant. This, coupled with the previous coupon for Alpha Protocol, leads me to conclude that we only missed out on the advertised discount on Valkyrie Chronicles because the first round's prizes were given out differently, preventing that coupon from popping up in our inventories when we claimed the first three games directly from Steam.
Which is a shame. It would be cool if they somehow rectified that issue, either with a discount on Steam or an option to request a coupon, but I guess it looks like that's not going to happen. I don't have time to check right now, but unless I missed something on social media, I don't think they've even acknowledged that they messed up on that part of the promotion. Perhaps they don't even realize it.
There are two more rounds of free games coming up, once every 48 hours:
Round 2: Streets of Rage 2, Binary Domain, Condemned: Criminal Origins
Round 3: Gunstar Heroes, Renegade Ops, Viking: Battle for Asgard

Make sure you keep all the basic game mechanics like using cover and flanking in mind while playing, be aggressive and always thinking of ways to capture points.
Learn what units counter which, choose wisely when making a new unit, think of your army composition and your enemies.
If your opponent has a stronger force, retreat from the engagement and find a way of countering it, don't let your squads get wiped, reinforcing is way cheaper than buying a new squad and your squad keeps its veterancy.
Try not to have units out of position unsupported, like an AT gun in a field where infantry could easily run up to it and kill it.
As a predominately Axis player (http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#profile/steam/76561198017601972/standings), my friends and I love when we play Steppes, because it's an easy win. "A gentle handjob for the Reich" is our current descriptor.
> the players suck
Don't generalize. You can see on the leaderboards there are many more active players in 4v4 than 1v1 with any given faction. Thus, chances for finding an even-matched game (skill-wise) is actually better, in theory. You can fit both good and bad players in that pool. It's whole another matter why people prefer one mode over another. When I get tired listening to the seldom "Noob team" whine, I switch to 2v2. But overall I feel I've got surplus of positive experiences, especially with pre-made teams (make friends!).
Yes, but you don't have long to play...
> next Thursday, March 31st, we will be turning off the servers and shutting down Company of Heroes Online. That gives players seven more days to play the game, as well as spend any remaining CoHO Cash that they may have. After the 31st there will be no more Company of Heroes Online.
http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2018/07/03/commander-updates
The idea is that a new Commander per faction will still be released, but only after the Commander Revamp Patch is released sometime this month. Creating an entirely new Commander for each faction based on community feedback (that also doesn't obliterate the delicate faction balance) will be a tricky process so I wouldn't expect the new commanders to released until late December or January.
The ideas phase for new commanders has been going on in the CoH forums but nothing seems concrete yet. If you wanna take a look at the ideas or submit your own check it out: https://community.companyofheroes.com/categories/commander-feedback
My usually roster for OKW is Fortifications Doctrine (or Luftwaffe Ground Forces Doctrine, since there is no kubel supression in next patch u need mg + fortifications and Fallschirmjägers is hell of a good addition), Special Operations Doctrine (Infiltration Tactics(volks incendiary nade along with this ability), infrared stg44 and command panther (if u can micro it and it will gain at least 3 vet, it becomes unstoppable device of support)) and, most of the time, Scavenge Doctrine (usually coz of its ostwind and Jaegers). I guess I'm gonna replace the last one for new Overwatch Doctrine. U can read more here and here is new commanders
From their official blog:
>"Please keep in mind that this will be a separate build of its own, and will be shut down and wiped clean before release. Player stats and progress from the Limited Free Trial (such as bulletins, skins or commanders unlocked through the progression system etc.) cannot and won’t carry over to the final game. Because of how COH2 and its expansions are built and intertwined and the technical limitations it implies when ring-fencing content, there was no other way for us to do this."
i feel like the only person on reddit to not have played C&C and i get really confused why it is the only RTS (Civ doesn't really count) that gets talked about, SC or SC2 don't seem to get mentioned nearly at all but those are great RTS games, CoH seems to get talked about but not close to the level of C&C
EDIT: i do agree though that the intro music is good like /u/MightHire said
According to the blog post it is now 17th, 18th, and 19th.
http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2016/02/16/mwnl-community-event
Kyle must have memory loss or something because he announced 3 different dates for us to get the skins.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-05-29-relics-five-year-plan-for-company-of-heroes-2 relic have stated the have a 5 year plan for CoH 2 which we are still currently in. Also why would the even consider making a new CoH when this one is still essentially a work in progress receiving the much needed balance patches every so often. On top of all this relic obviously sees this game as having a decent life span http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2015/04/02/the-coh2-roadmap
> It means you should never actually "need" suppression platforms, because you have the superior firepower in almost any circumstances.
Never thought it that way before. I suppose that's a unique and fitting characteristic for OKW, being able maintain initiative like Relic stated in their faction infograph
OP, these are linked in the sidebar:
Additionally, there's some useful tidbits under "Learn > Tutorials > Game Tips" in the game menu.
Did you have anything you wanted to ask specifically? What faction do you usually play? OKW is my jam, but I play them all a fair bit.
It's not a bug, it's intended. They allowed to use it in the recent patch preview tournament.
Check yourself, if you want: http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2019/08/20/1v1-balance-preview-invitational
Look up their rankings compared to your team. These guys are simply just in another league.
http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#global/1v1/soviet/by-rank
Although Relic has confirmed a "major update" in the Winter, my best suggestion is to not count on this being any sort of "balance" patch.
However, what you CAN expect and count on being in the next update are new 2v2 maps. The community 2v2 map making competition is finishing up and the winners will be "submitted for consideration to be integrated into automatch rotation".
http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2017/10/17/picking-the-winners-and-community-voting
Take a look in here
http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#global/1v1/soviet/by-rank
The player base is still significant and regardless of experience you will still find people who are (comparatively) quite hopeless at the game.
After ten matches the game will rank you and try to match you with similar ranks. As an everage RTS player you should be able to find plenty of people both better and worse than you.
If you want to improve I'd recommend asking for advice either here or on coh2.org.
Also watch some casts on youtube and some high level players on twitch to catch up on stragety, priorities and current meta.
Have fun. Chances are you'll get addicted within a few weeks :)
Relic published a blog post about this at the beginning of this year: http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2017/01/12/mods-custom-games
TLDR; After launching CoH2, the game starts re-downloading every workshop item that you are subscribed to. If you have subscribed to a lot of LARGE skin packs, you are gardened. This is potentially several gigabytes per game restart.
My guess is that at the time CoH2 Workshop integration was being developed, Steam Workshop didn't offer a way of checking whether or not an item is up to date. Now we are stuck with the "solution" Relic had to pick. I wonder if the recently added Workshop integration for CoH1 did things "the proper way".
In all of my hundreds of team games, players usually tend to underestimate rather than overestimated their chances for a comeback. Yes, they both happen and require a good read on your opponent for a correct evaluation. I've too wanted to ragequit due to mistakes, losing my side of the map and descending into despair. Then, a couple of times I've pulled a win in a 4v4 as the only remaining human in team. Here's the shitty playercard for credentials, not playing anymore.
My advice is to remain just a little bit more patient for the sake of others, some do play seriously for that virtual e-peen rank. Please, try to make time when committing to games.
> UKF was never under performing
You're right, Relic was wrong.
It's always the same with certain players. You lose to a faction and it's OP, you win and it's because of skill. Same old same old.
It depends on what you want. CoH1 has a better campaign, while if you want multiplayer I'd go for CoH2.
Most of the people playing CoH1 multiplayer are people who are salty about CoH2, so they've had a long time to get good at CoH1. So, you'd have get good pretty quick.
1v1 is pretty well balanced in CoH2, and a lot of people say the same for 2v2.
I haven't had any issues with the pathing and I think the AI is fine.
The game isn't pay to win.
Last 10+ games as OKW, ~90% of games as OKW, almost none played as UKF or USF... That's about what I was expecting.

I am currently playing mostly 3v3s as brits.
Build order HMG -> Infantry -> T2 -> Grenades -> Engineer ->Squad Size.
Then maybe a sniper or double up on engineers. If I am using the doctrine with salvage engineers I try to hit that next. Then weapons upgrades, more for PIATs than the MGs on infantry.
Then save all of your fuel for the best tank in the game known as the comet.
Sometime this month. You can see here the twitch streaming schedule: http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2015/10/05/coh2-twitch-schedule-october
They're going to stream October 7th and let us know some patch info.
Actually all armies are getting the updated animations. The Brits page says so under the part where it talks about mo-cap animations. http://www.companyofheroes.com/games/british-forces "IMPROVED MO-CAPPED ANIMATIONS: The battlefield comes to life like never before thanks to motion-captured data for the most common animation set (SMG), that will also update all of the previous armies’ animation systems."
Comet, Firefly, Churchill and its variants... yep that sounds like a good mid-late game! Cant wait for Comets!
nobody can talk about f2p now without first trying TF2.
I also found this game a while back, most people are shocked when i mention company of heroes online.
This must be what he's talking about:
http://www.companyofheroes.com/
Can anyone tell us the advantages/disadvantages to COH-Online vs the originals? Is the gameplay similar enough? What are the "microtransactions" they hope to make money off of? How do they change the game compared to the original?
Need to know, I'm going to buy it on steam tonight unless I hear this online one is as good and/or as faithful as the well regarded original. (Actually, I'll probably get the original anyways, but others will want to know...)
Well, on 18th January they launched the 64-Bits patch and it says that they enabled the crossplay. Check it out in this link. Unfortunately, there have been problem since the launching...
Also you can follow any change they do to the 64-bits patch in the 64-Bit Update Hotfix! They haven't done much changes, but keep an eye for more information!
macOS one is 64 bit confirmed. But windows one is 32 bit at this moment, 64 bit in beta form. You can try the beta version of 64 bit through steam and here is the link:
http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2020/09/17/64-bit-beta-and-update
> Bugsplats and occasional FPS drops - The game isn't properly optimized before launch. I don't even know why devs decided to release a buggy game and not even fix the basic problems of the game. I feel like ImperialDane's "FIX YOUR SHIT RELIC", but honestly, there's still a bunch of things that need ironing out.
Careful with the term rank, I think you're talking about level. Rank 12-13 would be level 19.
Ranks refer to the absolute position on the leaderboard http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards. Levels, are relative regions on the leader board. The difference between a level 20 and 16 is 100 ranks.
Hey there! I'm a level 18-20 2v2 player.
I like to play as Wehrmacht as Germans. I fear soviet players the most when playing Germans.
When i'm allies I like to play as USF/SOV and fear Wehrmacht far more then I OKW.
Here's my player card: http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#profile/steam/76561197995692950/standings
http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#profile/steam/76561198037207799/standings
Lol okay so that explains why this guy is unranked in 1v1 soviet despite having ranks in other game modes and 10 games of 1v1 as soviets in his history. Totally not because he's very low ranked like you.
Where's your playercard? I do favor Ost but my USF rank is quite decent. Here's my playercard: http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#profile/steam/76561198287328305/standings
This 100. You will get placed after 10 games into your perfect spot. Wish this was as clear as it is in say Starcraft II. I believe this is the best article to explain it http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2014/09/19/matchmaking-in-company-of-heroes-2-and-elo
There's actually only one Relic member working on COH2 right now, Andy.
The rest are unpaid community members, listed in this post: http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2018/12/12/commander-revamp-update-live-now
1129, and here is my playcard: http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#profile/steam/76561198009094729/standings

I think I started to play against other players around 500 hours.
the vote is at the bottom of this page http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2019/02/25/new-commander-update-community-voting not on twitter

Ah guess i am better at coh2 now than at vcoh :) I guess i still play a decent vcoh wehrmacht even tho i am more a 1v1 allies player at coh2.

Hey all,
Just an update to say we are awaiting the localized text for the Commander Revamp Updates from our outsourcing partners. We are intending to add the localized text to the game with the next tuning patch. More on that here: http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2019/01/10/new-commander-update-submissions-process
Apologies for the delay. It has taken longer to turnaround due to the holiday season etc.
Andy
I went back to companyofheroes.com to check the blog, and they very clearly say it in this post: " Our second update should be super cool. Each faction in the game will be receiving a brand new commander! In a nutshell, community members will be invited to submit ideas, outlining the theme, units and abilities, and how this commander would improve the faction. We’ll be using these suggestions as inspiration! Again, a community panel will be helping to weigh up the best ideas, test things out, and make necessary changes. "

I'm a top 2v2 50 soviet player and use guard vet 1 "hit the dirt" all the time. It's really, really strong.
http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#profile/steam/76561197995692950/standings
While yes you are right in that you can play around it as axis, it doesn't mean its useless or not potent at all.
It also doesn't sound like you're using it in the right situations, ie combined with maxims or synergized with ppsh cons. I suggest you reconsider your usage of them. Especially, when they were used quite a bit in the ultimate team tournament over the last 2 months to great effect.
Fair enough.
You're welcome to add me if you want, allthough It seems we are not only in significantly different time zones, but also quite far apart in terms of ranking so I don't know if it will make sense?
But if you are ever online arond the same time as me (usually 8 to 11 pm in GMT+1) then we could do some sparring matches and I could provide you with some feedback. It seems only fair since I have gotten to where I am by relying on a lot of feedback from the coh2.org community :)

Devs sometimes hold an event to polish up a mod and give some supply points.
previous one WBP V1.4 - Supply Event!
There are no "alpha bulletin fixes" coming AFAIK. The War Spoils Alpha is a complete revamp of the drop system and it will probably be a few more months before it goes live.
Today's patch is just a hotfix to correct the veterancy bug.
> The game is balanced around 4v4 because that's the most popular game mode. Unfortunately, it means balance is screwed at 1v1.
Yeah, sorry. That is completely wrong.
>Once the team feels that the state of 1v1 is as balanced as it needs to be to run a fair ESL tournament series, efforts will then be focused on ensuring team games fall within the same acceptable margins as well.
Thanks, I found that too but if you compare the fuerstrom doctrine commander on the blog post with the one on that steam guide, they're different. I'm looking for the ones that look like the steam blog one.
Would they be in COH2's files?

Your comment reflects really well the general opinion I've seen on CoH1 and CoH2 online.
To add to what you said about balance, here's some info on the current state of 1v1 (it's good). Hopefully we can see 1v1 balance for the other modes. I've heard 2v2 is well balanced too now.
>Been there, done that. russian and brits are so easy mode that is boring, USF can be either fun or frustrating.
Somehow I don't believe you. Post your playercard.
http://www.companyofheroes.com/leaderboards#global/1v1/soviet/by-rank
I guess you wrong. DLC called Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces - TBF. As I remember, TBF is official name of British Forces. But community calling them UKF like USF (United States Forces) and it's a good name... buuuuut TBF is official name of Brits. You can just scroll down blog on official site and I don't know about you, but I can't find sh*t about UKF and United Kingdom Forces. But British Forces and The British Forces are everywhere
Good question. When you look at the leaderboards there's a level visible that essentially shows your competitive rank. There's a one for every game mode. Right now you see your own rank depending which mode you played most recently but it really should be visible to everyone else too.
Go mechanized and early puma!! Puma is the lover I never had :) I am no pro but 68% with OKW in this day and age, I think Im doing ok

http://www.companyofheroes.com/blog/2015/10/15/coh2-name-your-commanders
>On Monday, Oct 19th, Relic will pick their top three favorite names that have been submitted for each commander and let the community vote on which USF & OKW name should be integrated into the game.
I wonder if we have enough people to pull another "Hitler did nothing wrong".
First i didnt play CoH1 so i have no idea which one is better. CoH2 has two stand allones: CoH2: 2 Fractions Ostheer and Soviet Union and a campaign for Soviet Union. http://www.companyofheroes.com/en_us/company-of-heroes-2
Western Front Armies: 2 Fractions Oberkommando West and US Forces and some Maps. http://www.companyofheroes.com/en_us/the-western-front-armies
Both work without the other but you can play the fractions you have, but you can play on maps you dont have or vs fractions you dont have.
Additional you can by Ardennes Assault which contains a campaign for US Forces and some more Maps. http://www.companyofheroes.com/en_us/ardennes-assault
The Theater of War Missions, are some semihistorical scenarios limited to Ostheer and Soviet Union. Can be fun but can also be annoying bc your units wont be same as you can play them in mulitplayer.
Last and least you can buy skins for your vehicles and commanders, but those will drop randomly at the end of some multiplayergames you play.
I personally would start with one of the 2 fraction pack and check out if like the game (i started with Western Front Armies, bc it was cheaper) and add later more content. And maybe wait for a sale, whole game cost over 100 euros.
I find it needlessly complicated how the rankings have separate lists for all the factions AND playmodes (1v1, 2v2..). I really don't care about who prefers to play on what side. Everyone has their favorite one and you can just click on the name to see the details. But I just want to know the overall standings; all wins and losses together with the combined ELO.
Does this indicate that there's a separate MMR for all the factions? Because I sure as hell like to play all of them and having to climb again from the bottom after switching is frustrating. Right now (I prefer random 2v2) the company I play with varies pretty radically with skill from game to game so I guess i just need more games to stabilize it.
TL;DR I'd prefer to have a simpler leaderboards, and visible in-game.
Yes, they are down. Unexpectedly... there has been a problem with the servers the past couple days, I think they are fixing the issue:
http://www.companyofheroes.com/forums/company-of-heroes-discussion/topics/server-status-17389
It probably wouldn't be the same fellas!
They were making this, but I haven't looked into it lately.
So I don't know if I could support a CoH sequel, though I would like a new game in the same style of CoH.
