have you looked into console2? https://sourceforge.net/projects/console/ this might offer what you are looking for. I know you wanted command prompt to do this however I have ran into just as little luck as you have.

Windows Powershell and Git Bash aren't bad although they're not a direct replacement for iTerm/xTerm/Terminal.

Edit: Seems like Console may fill in the gaps missing in the previous two apps I mentioned.

I'm a current Cmder user and my goto, but there are aspects of both it and ConEmu beneath it that still bother me, like user aliases for one, and really want to see some serious competition.
