you can use OS tools depends on what you are running :) i assume you have windows -> 'dxdiag' it will show you if not there are certain programs which are able to do that job for you http://www.lavalys.com/support/downloads/

I dunno about you, but I LOVE this program called Everest. It is like Device Manager, but on steroids. It should give you the exact type of sound card / driver you have / need and probably even have a link where you can download it.
