Now for a more useful answer:
I'm not too sure whether you can do that through iTunes, however, there are alternative iPod managers out there that will allow you to copy your music to your computer. I think Floola is still being actively developed, and has a version for either Windows, OSX, or Linux.
Floola is freeware. It exists within a single folder (no install needed), and supports simple drag and drop along with other advanced features if you care to play with them.
> You do have to use iTunes to load on an iPod
You sure don't! There are several third-party programs you can use without the bloat and overhead of iTunes. I personally use Floola.
Can you still enable the "Enable Disk Use" in iTunes on the iPod? In that case you'll be able to copy the songs with iFunbox to your macbook.

Also try and see if you can still sync with http://www.floola.com/
They also have a 'Repair iPod' function which is described here: http://www.floola.com/home/docs_troubleshooting/
Here's another alternate. There is a portable program called Floola, and you can stick this on a USB or your iPod and you can use it as a replacement for iTunes. It's been a while since I have last used it on my friends iPod though.
Use something like Floola to get your data from your ipod. Good luck with the files being exactly as they were when you downloaded them though, as you seem to have no idea what you are doing, and you allow Apple to own your files. What you need to do is reconstruct the folder to its exact state in the torrent file, and that my mean renaming some things. If you really want your account, you will try harder.
Floola is an alternative to iTunes with some nice functionality. As stated by many others already Ninite has most of the very useful free packages and creates a nifty installer which you can walk away from and avoids the need for opting out of stuff etc. Click and forget. I also like Avgfree but I know many think it has become bloated and prefer Security Essentials. I still like it. Perhaps i'm just a creature of habit.
