Oh, hello! Been a while (:
>CalDAV syncing in the works
Nice
>between two computers
most people use phones most of the time
>Google Tasks is dead
Google tasks is more integrated into Gmail and Google calendar than ever, and the mobile app gets regular updates. Just because they shut down the separate web ui doesn't indicate sunsetting.
Anyways, I agree google evil and eggs in evil basket = evil eggs but just realistically it's what many average users already have and it can help sync between desktop/mobile without paying for a service. If there's something else that does that sign me up! That's why I also suggested Kinto or whatever the thing is called which powers firefox sync since they did discontinue their notes service during the great pandemic layoffs.
The folks at https://github.com/getting-things-gnome/gtg - getting things gnome which is an amazing todo app - probably could use some help in hacking. Check them out.
It used to have a RememberTheMilk sync plugin, which got deactivated so that the project could get a release out of the door this decade instead of staying in "dev hell" with an endless list of "would be nice if..."
Someone (it could be you!) needs to step forward to fix & maintain the existing plugin, or write a plugin for whatever new sync backend you want. There's even an in-house synchronizeable online version of GTG, GTGonline, that never got finished (or maybe it was complete and working, I have no idea... again, "someone who cares" needs to step forward, test & potentially bugfix this thing to "finish that job").
The fact that this project has been resurrected and put back on track is a small miracle. There's only so much a team of two crazy people can accomplish in their spare time in the space of a few months. If you want progress to happen quicker and to get more features, get involved.
Make sure you use the awesome GNOME Builder to write your cool app. It even integrates a UI designer into it and of course built in flatpak support so you can target runtimes . You will have a nice stable development environment.
Also be aware that there is another note taking project - a reboot of GTG (Getthings Things Done) Which by happenstance also is written in Python if you decide to go that route - https://github.com/getting-things-gnome/gtg.
Good luck and I hope to see it on flathub soon! Also welcome to the dev community :)
