https://glimpse-editor.org/posts/a-project-on-hiatus/ As of the end of May the primary developer and project founder has left the project, and they no longer accept donations.
Things might start up again in the future but as of right now the repos are frozen
> And why are there so many app names with an ampersand in them? Movies & TV. Snip & Sketch. News & Interests. Alarms & Clocks.
They're named by committee. No committee would have come up with "GIMP" (also forked as "Glimpse").
> Some of these decisions coming out of Microsoft these days seem like they are coming from managers to sell the product, so they put advertisements for apps inside the app, make the app look like the competition, or put advertisements to make Bing the default engine in the operating system, or OneDrive advertisements in the Photos app
It's a "Strategy Tax" that the Windows product pays to other divisions of Microsoft, like the entertainment division.
I used a combination of 2 programs
- Windows Paint 3D. It should come with Windows 10 (if not, you can probably download it from the official Windows site). I use for for basic coloring, cropping, text overlays, and some of the default speech bubbles that it has.
- For the layering of the panels, I used a program called Glimpse. It's free a free photo editor, and a powerful one at that, but there is a bit of a learning curve to it.
I took some of the speech bubbles from various manga chapters and erased the background around them. Either program I mentioned will do, but I prefer Glimpse for that kind of work.
I feel like a Banana-gun is a missed opportunity 😂
Stick with it. Looking pretty amazing so far! ❤️
I love that you have included links to the free software you are using to make this happen.
Glimpse is a neat fork of Gimp, tailored to be more friendly to those migrating from PS.
Also Davinci Resolve is awesome.. they also have native Linux support!
Glimpse appears to be dead. The project got some hate, but I really liked where their proposed design was heading.
You mentioned Glimpse Image Editor, but unfortunately the future of the project is a bit shaky, and it's currently on hiatus at the moment

(cc u/krapht) check out glimpse! it’s a fork of GIMP that’s a bit more modern. also an nx version coming soon which will be geared toward beginners
<3 the power of open source
Am I missing something? Because the UI they show on glimpse-editor.org looks almost identical to GIMP's UI. The only difference I can spot is they got rid of the mascot.
Ich bin mir nicht so sicher ob du eine 25 Jahre alte Software so nützlich finden wirst...da wirst du mit einem aktuellen, kostenlosen ~~GIMP~~ Glimpse schon weit besser bedient sein
> Glimpse is an open source image editor based on the GNU Image Manipulation Program. The goal is to experiment with new ideas and expand the use of free software.
> [citation needed]
From the gitlab issue about the name change.
>I just want to point out that I have, on two occasions now, recommended this program to photography and graphic design educators (as an alternative to Photoshop) who told me that they considered it and found it good as software but weren't permitted by their institution to use it in the classroom because of the name.
Also:
>many of us have our own free software advocacy stories about the GNU Image Manipulation Program not being taken seriously as an option by bosses or colleagues in professional settings.
Also got told by IM by someone that he does not recommend the GIMP in person (citing how most people saw pulp fiction), and mentioned getting weird looks until the name gets explained.
> but going around for an acronym make the whole thing look like some kind of terrible joke.
Just because something seems funny it does not make it wrong.
