What I love so much about Reddit is that its reminiscent of real life - it has dark corners, unexplainable weird stuff to quench ones curiousity (if not scare away), disqusting stuff, cute kittens, etc. But the best part is that it has supportive communities where you can talk up your mental shit and actually be understood.
AA meeting are great, but r/depression has been a vital part of my recovery. I've read an article how lexicon of redditors with mental disorders improve over time (full info here - https://growapp.me/how-reddit-is-actually-helping.html ) and can attest to that, too.
Never needed the actual scientific proof, but it still made my day reading it:)
The more you want to progress with TM on some stages, the more difficult it will become. Could be your friend wasn't fully ready to the powerful transformation of Vipassana. It can be dangerous to quit the course half way through, but there might be ongoing complications even after the whole course. Troy Erstling had it all wonderfully put into words on Medium saying that "Vipassana is definitely not a retreat. It’s hard work. Treat it as such." There's a lot to be understood about such practices even before you endulge in them. I suggest you read https://growapp.me/surviving-in-a-meditation-camp.html and try to feel the atmosphere of the place with your heart. Maybe that's the problem with your friend: too much analytical thinking instead of "seeing with own heart".
Our brain can process the info much faster than you might imagine. On average, we read 300 words per minute. Studies show that you can read twice as fast with the same retention level after just 30 minutes of practice in speed-reading. The actual world record is 25,000 words per minute. That’s Lord of The Rings trilogy in under 20 minutes!
