You can set to either sync automatically or configure shortcuts to push/pull content in the device settings.
It's insane what KDEConnect can do. For computer to phone communication, it can more or less replace Join with everything from texting to notifications to remote file transfer, even using your phone as a virtual keyboard/touchpad for your machine or having your desktop music playback show up with playback controls on your phone, complete with Album Art.
For those of you who run Ubunutu/PopOS or any other GNOME variant, you can use GSConnect to do the same thing (no need to install KDEConnect and GSConnect, GSConnect is self-contained). https://github.com/andyholmes/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/wiki
We can ask the operating system what IP address KDEConnect is talking to. Assuming you only have a single device, and set it to listen on port 5555 as suggested in the <code>adb</code> documentation, something along the lines of the following will work:
adb connect $(lsof -p$(ps -u $LOGNAME -o pid=,args= | perl -wnE 'say $1 if m{^\s*(\d+)\s+gjs .*/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/gsconnect\@andyholmes.github.io/service/daemon.js$}') -a -iTCP -sTCP:ESTABLISHED -Fn -P | perl -nE 'say $1 if m/^n.+->([\d.]+):\d+$/'):5555 scrcpy
Here I’m using GSConnect on my desktop rather that KDEConnect, so you’d need to adjust the path in the middle there to match that of KDEConnect.
You can install GSConnect from the Gnome extensions website. Just follow the wiki.
The commit where this changed is here (two years ago), but from the commit message it doesn't seem like the change considered that people were installing extensions from arbitrary sources. So when the feature was removed, it wasn't thought of as a unique feature but duplication of a feature available in GNOME Software.
Tweaks is pretty removed from the general settings it's still targetted at users that are generally less comfortable doing things manually. IMHO, installing extensions from untrusted sources is not something to be taken lightly since inserting malicious code like GLib.unlink(GLib.get_home_dir());
is child's play, aside from more complex things like bitcoin miners, etc.
Installing an extension from a Zip itself is pretty trivial and given the possible risks, it probably better to be explicit about what you're doing. GSConnect has instructions in it's wiki for Installing from ZIP.
I installed it as this site said: https://github.com/andyholmes/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/wiki/Installation
But I didn't see gsconnect run in my Cinnamon and the phone didn't detect anything. Do you have any idea?
I know of two methods
1) Firefox sync has a way to share tabs. They say it would be instant with GCM. But even otherwise it works. To get the link fast, you can force sync your Firefox account on phone.
2) Kdeconnect : I use gnome shell and a implementation of kde-connect call GSconnect. It has an option of sharing tabs. You can install the chorme or firefox extension from here for this. This in my experience has been instant.
