you can try something along the lines of imo.im.
beyond that you may have to use skype.
edit: i haven't used it. if it happens to work, i would login with a throw-away skype account (but i guess it is obvious).
imo instant messenger is a pretty good alternative to Meebo. Has an iOS app too.
Give it click if you feel like it.
how about a site like meebo or IMO? both are multi-protocol online chat services that allow for gtalk connections. Even has popup notifications for chrome and the option to log conversations. I use it when I can't install pidgin.
IMO at least has tabbed chats, not sure about meebo. And both have mobile counterparts so you can continue conversations when you're not at your desk.
Imo.im is the hot new shit, has pretty much every network available, gchat, facebook, steam chat, msn, yahoo, skype, aim, myspace, etc etc. Lifehacker review
Solution for chat: imo.im. This website allows you to chat using Skype, Facebook chat, Google Talk, and much more, including Steam chat. They also have an app for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.
I pretty much just use imo.im for my instant messaging these days, in-browser and on Android.
Disclaimer: I work there, but I've been using the product (especially Android) since long before I was hired.
If you'd like to stick to your browser, and still be able to view your Facebook groups, then http://imo.im/ is definitely the best online chat client. They also have a Chrome extension and app: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search?q=imo.im
It was founded by an ex-Engineer at Google (https://imo.im/about). It also lets you sign in to multiple accounts like Skype and Gtalk.
What are you talking about? I've got imo running on my phone and accounts on aim, Yahoo!, MSN, and Facebook Chat (XMPP). All of these show when I'm typing a message to someone, as well as when they're typing a message to me.
