The Sixth World by Rebecca Roanhorse is only 2 books right now, and it will be a while until the third is added. The Fifth Season by N K Jemisin is a 3 book series. Many people really love it, though it was a bit too fantasy and not enough urban for my taste. And the Aurora Sky series is 6 books, but sold as 2 box sets, so it won't eat up credits.
If waiting for audible credits is why you want short series, look into Overdrive from your local library. It lets you check out audiobooks through your local library, so you can get through books much faster.
If you want to buy audiobooks without giving money to Amazon, and supporting local bookshops, you can use Libro.fm since they give money to a local bookstore of your choice.
Libro.fm (my referral link) costs the same per month as a basic Audible membership, and you also get your first credit for free. They function basically the same as Audible and have a comparable catalog (with the exception of Audible exclusive content). They often have good sales and sometimes offer books for prices cheaper than 1 credit. The best thing is that you can select an independent bookstore to support with your purchases!
Another resource I've used recently is Scribd (my referral link), which has a free 1-month trial and is $8.99/month after that. They allow unlimited ebook reading from their catalog, and semi-limited audiobook checkout (there's a subset of more popular audiobooks that you can only listen to 2 or 3 per month, but their less popular/new ones you can listen to on an unlimited basis). It's worth trying the free trial at the very least. I think they also offer a combo Scribd/NY Times digital subscription that's a pretty good deal.
Many public libraries (in the US at least) offer free library book checkouts through the Libby app (run by the same people as the Overdrive app). If your local public library doesn't have a very good catalog, some libraries, such as the Brooklyn Public Library (which in my experience has a pretty good selection of digital content) offer paid memberships for non-residents; I think the Brooklyn one is $50/year.
There are no alternatives to Audible if you're looking for Audible exclusive content. The book the OP was asking for was part of Audible exclusive content, so unfortunately you'll only be able to find it there.
That said, I recently made the switch from Audible to Libro.fm. The monthly membership is the same cost as Audible, but the money spent goes towards your local bookstore (or any bookstore you want!). The selection is obviously not as great as Audible, but so far it's served me pretty well! It all depends on what you're looking for.

I like using libro.fm to avoid audible/amazon.
Clarissa Oakes is also titled The Truelove and that might have led to some confusion.
Anyway, here's the libro link.

Can support by switching to libro.fm for your audiobooks.
Link to support Green Apple Books:

Edit: didn’t know this was a referral so you don’t have to use the link, but I think you may get a free book
honestly, i use them all.
my friend shares her audible with me, i share my libro with her (same price as audible but $$ goes to local bookstores instead of amazon), i use libby/overdrive and hoopla from my library.
if you're new to audiobooks, i say try to see what your library has first in terms of apps because it'd be free and you could dip your toes in the water. libby/overdrive is limited number of copies and you have to wait on books others have them checked out and hoopla is whatever is available you can download.
but also both audible and libro have one free book trials, so go for both to see what you like and cancel if you don't - my libro referral is http://libro.fm/referral?rf_code=lfm140861 if you wanted to use it but no worries
maybe check out libro.fm , they sell "from" indie bookstores so it benefits local stores instead of just big corporations - it's the same price per month, but i've noticed a lot of good sales on there and they offer a 30% discount for any non-credit book purchase - i used my referral link but feel free to just put in the web name and find it
