Some more uncommon software that I wouldn't want to be without are:
Folder Size (Edit: By MindGem) - Scans a folder/drive, arranges folders by file-size and draws a pie-chart of space used. Allows you to navigate into sub-folders and it adjusts the sizes and chart accordingly.
Bulk Rename Utility - Effectively renames multiple files at once.
XBMC - Provides a great UI and flawless playback for all my Movies & TV Shows. Also downloads complete data for video files including actors and descriptions.
Mobipocket Creator & Calibre - Converts ebooks with near flawless OCR and supports all ebook file types.
VueMinder Calendar - A great looking calendar with many features.
VLC Player - Small program that supports all video formats flawlessly.
MagicISO - Mounts ISO's to virtual drives
Easy File Undelete - Recovers files that have been deleted and removed from the recycle bin.
god, that is insane. are you sure you're not just holding the temp files? i find it hard to believe that office is adding 3gb each update. i'd assume it's downloading the new version then replacing the necessary bits
i use folder size to check files. check out where all that space is going. i'd bet they're temporary install files that aren't getting deleted after updating for some reason
the 'Builtin Lessons' folder is what, less than 50mb?
you are not saving much space by deleting that, and I think you've got more problems if 50MB is going to make the difference in size on your HDD.
I'd use a program like the freeware Folder-Size to find things that are really eating into the storage space on your drive.
I agree with his second point, if your brother was hiding stuff with truecrypt, there are chances that he may have things hidden on there using much less sophisticated methods.
Give this utility a shot. It's freeware that will analyze the folder structure of an entire drive and give you some helpful charts, etc. I use it to help clear up disk space by finding large folders and deciding what to eliminate, but it could be helpful to expose any hidden folders containing large amounts of data. Set windows to show hidden/system files (from any explorer window hit alt, choose tools>folder options>view tab, show hidden files. Look for any abnormally sized folders/subfolders. Try to not be shocked if/when you find a huge cache of porn videos!
Scan you SSD with FolderSize. It will tell you exactly whats taking up space per folder, per file. Great program to have handy for cleaning up.
Or you used a tool showing where the size of the disk was being taken up by which folder of which it would then be peanuts to find where all of that stash is.
I'll just leave this here: http://www.mindgems.com/products/Folder-Size/Folder-Size.html
What version of Windows?
So you are consuming about 50GB. Thats not massive, but a lot. a basic windows installation will consume about 8-15GB.
You are probably full of old temp files and other useless junk that just never goes away over time. Sometimes you really can't do much
You could try and disable Hibernation which will use anywhere from 2-5GB.

You could lower your page file size, which varies greatly depending on your physical RAM.
You need to use a program like this below to see what folders are consuming the most amount of space. http://www.mindgems.com/products/Folder-Size/Folder-Size.html
Unfortunately, this capability does not exist in Windows 7 by design.
If it is essential, you could try using a 3rd party software like: http://www.mindgems.com/products/Folder-Size/Folder-Size.html
Dude I found it and installed it while on Windows 7 and it works perfectly..
I'm thinking that maybe there are multiple programs of the same name. The one I was talking about is developed by MindGems.
