Answer:
Dark mode uses less battery.
It also emits less blue light which in turn causes less eye strain.
In my experience as a software dev and from conversations with my colleagues there is a preference for dark mode because we are in front of screens for long periods of time.
Bonus: Dark mode has been popular for a while. Here is an extension that makes all websites dark mode.
Hey man. I found really working solution. I recommended to you - Night Eye extenstion from Chrome store: It can be installed on Yandex. Check website: https://nighteye.app or https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/night-eye-dark-mode-on-an/alncdjedloppbablonallfbkeiknmkdi
Dark mode has helped me a lot! It’s a lot better than prior solutions like smart invert. I mainly use Apple products and they have had outstanding assistive settings especially for the visually impaired. Voiceover being the biggest.
An app I recommend everyone try out (not affiliated at all, just very fond of it) is Night Eye.
It’s the best “dark mode-ening” of any website I’ve tried. I’ve tried about 10. With the release of iOS 15, and better extension support, they’ve released an extension for iOS Safari which does the same thing. It’s great.
I’d also recommend reader view for websites that support it. You can set any website to automatically open into reader view with a black background, white text.

3 months are free. But you can add another month buy posting about it online. And you can get another month for free if 10 people will like that post of yours. You can do this trick for 1 year. After that 9 dollar for one year. Here you can find more information. And that is the best dark mode app that i have encountered.
Yeah, check out https://nighteye.app. Works on both Chrome and Safari, and it works really well as it toggles websites' native dark modes. I just bought the premium version for €10/year, but you get a three month trial and then the free version has a limit of five websites
So you only get 3 months of unlimited dark mode, after which you can only manually edit a list of 5 websites to have dark mode, or pay $9 PER YEAR or $40?
No thanks, I'll stick with Dark Reader.
I use Night Eye as a default, because I feel like it has better rendering, but sometimes it renders a page kinda wonky, in which case I'll use Dark Reader as a backup, I have it set to only access sites I allow it to.
